A comfortable, year-round look that goes with anything shouldn’t be criticized. Sandals go with anything, you can wear them with pants, shorts, dresses, and even slacks. Yet your feet may get cold, so you cover them with foot gloves aka socks. When people wear this look, they get stares from people and it makes no sense. Why stare at someone that’s a sensible, fashionable decision? I personally don’t wear socks and sandals, but I see people wearing them on a day to day basis and get so much hate for it. People should be able to wear their socks and sandals comfortably without others staring or commenting on them.

There are people wearing a velvet sweatsuit and fuzzy sliders and people say that it’s fashionable. Furry nails and backward eyebrows are a “trend” and people praise it. People wear ridiculous things and are complimented on it, but you see one person wearing socks and sandals and they act as if they are being personally attacked. I believe that when someone wears something that makes sense, they shouldn’t be judged. Fanny packs, overalls, and socks and sandals are sensible decisions and yet are judged beyond beliefs. Plus, wearing just sandals is gross. Things can get under and on your feet and make them totally disgusting, yet when you put a pair of socks over your feet you have a protective barrier from the nasty. Also, no one wants to see your nasty toes. All of these trends from the 90’s and early 2000’s are making a stylish comeback, and people continue to hold a grudge against socks and sandals for no valid …show more content…

When you compare the quotes for the “For” and the “Against” side, you can see that the arguments against socks and sandals are completely based on personal opinion, whereas the argument for socks and sandals give personal preference while giving good reasons as to why they enjoy them. In conclusion, socks and sandals belong together, and a person should feel unjudged when wearing them. This speech is to separate the people that wrongly call people out for wearing socks and sandals and those who rock them in their own fashion. It’s a look that goes with everything and you can dress up or dress it down as much as you want. The people that are against it can go on and live their life, and so can the people that are all for socks and sandals. It’s the judgment that is the problem, and it’s a problem that needs to be

When he received feedback, he was questioned on if some codes really made a difference, and he made some changes. Next Hoerr tells his readers that when they give a restriction on something, they must have a rational reason why. Hoerr’s reason was that the school staff needed to have a professional experience, which make since because some students might not take their teacher seriously if he or she is dressed for bed. Almost all of our decisions are based off of society. When you go to school what do you wear? Is it okay to wear a tuxedo coat with a pair of bright neon green pajamas? Most likely, people would give you weird looks and it would make other people uncomfortable. That’s because we have social norms. If we break them, then it is considered awkward and makes people feel uneasy. You wouldn’t walk into a five star restaurant with jeans and a t-shirt. I do not fully understand why certain norms are in place but I know if you break them you are looked at as different. One of the first videos we watched
...o contextual influences and past experiences. Therefore it is almost impossible to pre-empt the ways in which others will perceive you. Over time ideas will change and therefore alter the ways in which we look back on past clothing choices. Whilst symbolism in fashion may no longer be subject to laws as it was in the 14th century or defined by strict social rules in the 17th century, the clothes we wear are still today subject to imposed social ideals. Apart from distinguishing one status group from another, a style of dress may also aid group cohesiveness, provide the individual with an identity and a feeling of belonging, and communicate the wearer’s attitudes and interests. The ways in which we interpret others and present ourselves for interpretation is the only true way that we can be individual. Symbolism in clothing may not seem as obvious or important nowadays as it was in times of extreme social bigotry, but it is still highly prevalent and has remained one of the most effective ways to project our desired image to those around us. ‘The state of a person’s clothes is synonymous with self respect and is a sign of responsibility’ (www. Pemberley.com/janeinfo/vebleis7.html)
Clothing is something that defines a person, and allows society to have an outlook on an individual’s lifestyle and beliefs. Unlike criticizing other material things like a car, a home or even something as simple as a television set, criticism of clothing is very personal. This suggests that there is a high correlation between clothing and personal identity and values. (Breward, pg.1) Clothing in a sense has the ability to communicate thought. However, similarly to art interpretations, this does not mean that any two people will perceive these visual aesthetics similarly.
Over past years there have been many debates about school uniforms being beneficial or not. Uniforms have mostly been introduced to private schools at first, but gained more popularity in public schools when President Clinton stated his opinion, “If it means that the school rooms will be more orderly and more disciplined, and that our young people will learn to evaluate themselves by what they are on the inside, instead of what they're wearing on the outside, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear uniforms." (K, Marian). Wearing the appropriate school attire can be useful in many different ways and is a needed change in schools around the country. The biggest argument that adults use when against uniforms is that a student won’t be able to truly express themselves, but that’s not true. Wearing school uniforms will improve the person they are by making them express themselves through personality rather than look wise (Uniforms). Uniforms can’t compare their prices to designer clothing; a brand new pair of sneakers that cost two hundred dollars can buy a student possibly three new sets of a new uniform. One no longer has to worry about the time spent when buying clothes for every season. An important thing to know is uniforms show the unity of a school, no one is inferior or superior to anyone else. School uniforms are a good idea because it’s less money spent, there is less stress about the time, and they represent equality.
When I was a child attending elementary school all of my friends loved the way I dressed, but there was also other children that attended school with me that seemed inferior to me simply because of how I dressed. Usually the children that praised the way I dress always wore nice clothes themselves, while the others who didn’t dress ad nice would try to pick fights or make fun of children that did dress nice. Later on in my life as I approached high school the tables turned; the teenagers who dressed nice became the ones who picked on other students in school because of the low quality clothes certain students wore in school, this would result in student violence. My stance on student uniforms is that I believe every public school in the U.S should utilize school uniform policy because it reduces school violence, provides better security, increases performance, and also reduces stress on families.
As our traditional American attitudes change, society as a whole has had to adjust in some major ways. Violence is on the rise throughout our nation and equality is as much an issue now as it was in the 50s and 60s. Protecting our children from violence and bulling is a must and keeping them equal in school is imperative. As our county grows we have seen many diverse groups moving into more rural areas. This has caused great concern with some parents and they want to be able to provide the best educational experience for their children, without feeling the pressure to keep up with the Jones. School uniforms have increased equality in lower grade levels, and helped violent offences decrease in the upper grade levels .
Kids and teens have the right to pick out what they wear, sure it may take a bit longer, but in the long run it is worth it. Everyone has the right to express themselves freely and by the way they look. It can tell what kind of person they are. Think about it, you go into a school that has uniforms you see everyone wearing the same stuff who is who? What kind of personality could they have, maybe one like being a brick in the wall. Walk into a school without uniforms and you can instantly tell anyone’s personality by what they wear, so they express their emotions through their clothing.
Trying to fit in is one issue that students deal with at school, and requirement of uniforms can eliminate that stress. With all the different fashion trends coming out every day, keeping up with them are stressful, but a student being picked on for not following in that fashion trend is even more stressful. Uniforms can help encourage students to accept each other for who they are, and not for what they are wearing. MPS Superintendent, Barbara Thompson, believes uniforms “will create unity among the school system,” and “create a level playing field for all students” (Johnson, 2010). Some people that are against the requirement of uniforms believe that they interfere with the students’ right to self- expression, but how can a student express themselves if they are being picked on about what they are wearing? We believe that without the interference of fashion, students will be more focused inside the classroom rather than being the next fashion queen or king. President Clinton, in 1996, said “if it means teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to r...
