There are many issues in my generation that are a concern for many. I feel one is LGBT+ issues and rights.
This diverse community can come together for yearly parades to celebrate their differences. These events are for LGBT+ people to have a safe place to express themselves. The first pride parade was in June 28th, 1970 in New York. During this time, people weren’t as accepting as a lot of others are now. At the first parade, police clashed with the community. Throughout all of this positivity, there are still people protesting against LGBT+ people.
The LGBT+ community gained the right to marry on June 26th, 2015. Although it is now legal, people are still against it. Some celebrities who are part of the LGBT+ community are Amandla Stenberg (Pop artist), Kesha (Pop artist), Cara Delavigne (Model and actress) , Sarah Paulson (Actress), Michael Sam (NFL player), Angelina Jolie (Actress), Jason Collins (NBA player), and Janet Mock (New York Times best-selling author and transgender activist).

Just back in July, a ban on transgender people in the military was nearly set into play. There was immediate backlash and anger from many people. The reasoning for this was that the costs for the people transitioning were too expensive (I wonder who came up with that?). The ban ended up not actually happening. Many people believe that it came out of a place of pure hatred for the trans community. Another struggle for the community is costs for surgeries along with testosterone and estrogen shots. Before a transgender person can transition, they usually go on shots according to the gender they are wishing to be. Some transgender celebrities are Janet Mock, Jazz Jennings (Transgender activist and reality TV star), and Miles McKenna
The great feminist theorist once said “‘Sometimes people try to destroy you, precisely because they don’t see it, but because they see it and don’t want it to exist’” (Mook 195). Support becomes very important for transgender people at the time they transition. Many families support their transgender family members, but society rejects their transition. Many people want transgender people out of their communities. The resource of knowledge seems important to transgenders because it lets them tolerate the ignorance of people. Money plays an important role when the time comes to pay medical bills. In the book Redefining Realness by Janet Mock, She relates the importance of resources. Resources should be important for transgender people because
There are certainly various points in history that can be construed as trailblazing for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. One event in particular, however, sparked awareness and a call to action that previously could never have been conceptualized in the United States. This unforgettable incident, the Stonewall riots of 1969, altered the public’s view of the gay community and arguably jumpstarted the next revolution in an entirely new civil rights movement.
The Stonewall riots became a symbolic call to arms for many, it was gays and lesbians literally fighting back. After the riots many gay rights groups found new hope in gaining rights. New ideas, tactics, events and organizations were all a result of the riots.
Sidewalks are different shapes and sizes, people tend to make their own decisions to which way they would want to go. Going through the motions on a sidewalk is similar as going through the motions of life. There are many turns that could get you to your final destination and turns that can also get you into places you would not feel so comfortable being. Staying on the right path and trying to get to where you need to go isn’t so hard but when you have other sidewalks with nice grass and big beautiful street lights that can be a very big distraction to the eye and that could cause problems in your life. Nice sidewalks sometimes don't always tend to continue a nice path so they can be very believing at first but when you make it to the end
The gay rights movement has made great progress in the United States, compared to generations ago, with the legalization of marriage in some states, and also the gaining of certain equal rights. Many people today accept homosexuals within society, and society in general is more...
Transgendered people have a different and unique fight than the rest of the community. Transgendered peoples not only have the issues of “coming out,” (as others in the communities do) but also becoming a different gender. There are different obstacles that Trans people have to face.
There are kids and students, even from a young age, who are told by their parents that they have to play a sport. These parents find it important that their kids be involved in some type of physical activity, and it is. So a little girl thinks taking a dance class would be interesting and that she would be able to please her parents by this choice of sport. But when she comes to tell them what sport she would like to take up, they tell her dance is not a sport. Even after explaining to them that if someone is good enough they can compete, which is just like any other sport, this little girl’s dream of being a competitive dancer is crushed by her parents jaded view of what is considered a sport. The word “sport” is defined in the dictionary
The Stonewall Riots marked the start of the gay rights movement, and inspired members of the gay community to fight for their rights instead of being condemned for their sexuality. Even today, gay people in the US use the incident at Stonewall to educate younger members of the gay community. "The younger generation should know about Stonewall so that they will realize it is possible to make change. It is possible to overcome entrenched, institutionalized prejudice, discrimination, and bigotry. And that they can live full equal lives." (Frank Kameny, aarp.org) This is the message that many members of the gay community continue to spread after the incident at the Stonewall Inn.
During the history of mankind, there are time periods in which we either accept or decline ideas while they emerge in our timeline, that we take for granted. It is quite peculiar that there are those who would not acclimate themselves and diversify to events around them. They hearken to events that affect people personally or amongst the world around them.Nevertheless, the public should know the significance of happenings, regardless if it has affected them or not in any form of manner. People should know what happened in the 1960s, specifically the number of arduous situations the LGBTQ community was able to pervade. The 1960s were known for its immense improvements regarding civil rights along with the prerogatives which were vastly given to

The march took place on October 11th, 1987, near the White House and the Capitol. October 11th has now come to be known as “National Coming Out Day”, because of this important march that positively affected the LGBT+ community. More than 1,000 elected officials had endorsed the march, including about 100 members of Congress (Williams). Roughly around 500,000 people marched, although the number is indefinite. (D’Emilio). The marchers had a range of different religions, races, sexualities, and political views.
The Stonewall Riots were a catalyst for the gay rights movement not just in the United States, but also around the world. The first gay pride marches occurred in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York on June 28th, 1970, the one year anniversary of the Riots. Also, three LGBT newspapers printed soon after the demonstrations. In conclusion, the causes of the Stonewall Riots were anti-gay laws, NYPD corruption, and lack of media attention.
Allowing Transgenders to join the military is a step a closer to stop discrimination and show support to the LGBT community. One example is , he “ our mission is to defend this country and we don't want barriers unrelated to a person’s qualification to serve preventing us from recruiting or retaining the
Throughout the story Clov and Hamm argue and bicker, however, always resulting in Clov bending to the will of Hamm. Clov constantly threatens to leave Hamm and the others to die alone. Some argue that this is the conflict of the work. I can concede that it is a conflict, but perhaps not the most important one. The major conflict is Hamm and Clov versus time.
Public transportation is an essential part of a city. A good public transit can encourage a city’s economic activities and can provide its citizen a convenient life. Does our Phoenix public transit work well? Does it provide sufficient service to the citizen? From my experience, the answer is no. This November I tried to attend the popular State Fair in Phoenix. However, I found that there were not any buses or metros could take me to the fair directly. It means I need 2 hours or more spend on the public transits. As the sixth most populous city nationwide (“Phoenix Quick Fact” 1), compared with Los Angeles and other big cities in America, Phoenix’s public transportation is indeed subpar. Due to Los Angeles has 154 bus lines and 30 metros (“Schedule”), New York has 316 bus lines and 28 subways(“Maps & Timetables”), while Phoenix only has 98 bus lines, and the number of metro line is only one! (“Route Schedules & Maps”) The problem is
