Minimum wage has been a workplace controversy for many, many years. Most people think that the minimum wage is too low. The majority of places that pay workers minimum wage is fast-food restaurants. This is because the fast-food restaurants are trying to turn as much profit as possible. With so many restaurants, places like McDonalds and Burger King must be able to pay for all costs and turn a large profit. So, by paying the employees minimum wage, they can turn the most profit out of their business. Currently, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. I believe that the minimum wage should be changed to about $11.50 an hour. I say this because when I was in 6th grade, everyone did a spreadsheet of how they were able to live off minimum wage. Our results showed that if you could live off of minimum wage, you would have to live off of next to nothing. A minimum wage of $11.50 would allow for minimum wage workers to be able to have a happy, successful lifestyle. No one wants to live in poverty or have to go hungry for a meal. The minimum wage changes every decade or so. Back in 1938, the minimum wage for workers was 38 cents an hour. That is way less than it is today! But, due to inflation, this may have been not as bad as we think. Now, only 29 years later, the minimum wage in 1967 is $1.40 an hour. Some careers today can give up to $40 an hour to their employees! There has always been some controversy over minimum wage because everyone has different values and needs. For example, some people have a disability that limits the kind of work that they can do and that the disability also may cost them money. Therefore, they may be at a disadvantage versus people who make more money. I also think there should be a raise for people with disabilities for that
