Marijuana is a misunderstood drug. Many people think it is a harmful and dangerous drug. So the question is why has it been so hard to legalize marijuana in the United States. For so many years it has been considered a gateway drug or used in a negative way. Nevertheless, here are just a few reasons I think marijuana should be legalized in the United States. We should legalize marijuana because it reduces crime. We should legalize marijuana because it helps illnesses. We should legalize marijuana because it is safer than alcohol and tobacco. This is my opinion why I think marijuana should be legalized in the United States. We should legalize marijuana because it reduces crime. Marijuana has been known as a bad or dangerous drug. However, if we really think about it the amount of crime will reduce a lot. Many people get arrested for selling and using marijuana and they are probably just looking for a break or just a fun time. “According to the crime status in Colorado before and after marijuana was legalized the crime rate dropped”Rich, Alex K. Stingl, Alexander. This proves that if marijuana is legalize then the amount of crime will reduce in the state it is legalized in.By the paragraph above this concludes why i think should be …show more content…
Most cancer patients use marijuana to cure the side effects the chemo has because make them lose weight and weak so you are hungry all the time and you eat all the time even though they are full marijuana comes in and helps with that side effect.“Many Doctors have come to accept that marijuana can alleviate nausea and pain, and restore appetite in some people suffering from cancer “ Rich, Alex K. Stingl, Alexander. This proves that marijuana is not that bad or harmful drug, that it can help people with cancer or maybe one day even health problems. Many people say it is a bad or harmful drug, but doctors are prescribing it to cancer patients and their side effects are getting
Why isn 't marijuana legal in the United States? Marijuana could serve many purposes to the human body and the community. In 1937, the government issued the Marijuana Tax Act. This act immediately criminalized marijuana. This means you can not have possession of the drug for medical purposes or not. This act is still in effect today, but it should be repealed .
Marijuana has a greater beneficial impact on society then many people realize. Marijuana should be legalized for medical as well as recreational purposes. This is a highly controversial issue that is being debated throughout the country. In essence marijuana is evaluated by the effectiveness of the drug. It is defined as the dried flowered clusters and leaves of a hemp plant smoked for the intoxicating effect. Whether it should be legalized or not is the real question.
Cannabis, more commonly known as marijuana, is a plant that people have been using recreationally for years. In fact, people have consumed marijuana since ancient times. Until 1906, the year the United States Congress passed the Pure Food and Drug Act. The debate on whether or not marijuana should be legalized in the United States has really blown up within the last decade. And finally, in 2012, Colorado became the first state to officially legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational uses. The prohibition of marijuana has gone on for far too long, and it is time for America to change its views.
Marijuana should be legalized for both recreational and medicinal use because the US economy can reap significant benefits from legalization as well as create an influx of jobs and also to reduce street and gang disputes relating to marijuana. Also, marijuana should be legalized because it has been dealt an unfair hand by society and is justifiably safer than most know it to be. First, marijuana should be legalized in the US for both recreational and medicinal purposes because there is a very substantial profit that can be made from it. By placing a tax on Marijuana, similar to what the Government has done with various alcohol and tobacco products, The US Government can use America’s largest cash crop to its advantage. Perhaps even plans using such a tax can be set up to start paying the 16 trillion dollar debt the United States has accumulated. Further, such a tax could be on a state to state basis, allowing for competition and to keep the economy going. As well as more jobs in each state being created as a result of legalization. The result is a potential chain reaction: legalization in all states results in a tax the government can make a profit off of, also more business competition and an influx in new jobs; National debt and unemployment go down, the economy goes up. In an exclusive interview with CNN and John Hudak, editor of the Fixgov blog said that 2014 is a year to “ wait and see” when he was asked if he thought other states besides Colorado and Washington would legalize marijuana for recreational use. Hudak also commented on “marijuana tourism”, which was the influx of people traveling to Colorado to buy Marijuana "It has to have a real impact on those local economies ... If marijuana tourism can become something tha...
So why exactly should marijuana be legal? Well, there are many reasons both opinions and facts, but why does it need to be legal? According to many of my sources, marijuana has been found to be less dangerous than both alcohol and tobacco products. “Marijuana is safer than many over the counter drugs.” (Young, Francis L. 2) Judge Francis L. Young, from the DEA, declared that marijuana is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. “Long term heavy marijuana use does not produce the severe or grossly debilitating impairment of memory, attention, and cognitive function found with chronic alcohol use.”(British Medical Journal Lancet 4) Only a small number of marijuana users eventually smoke enough of it for a long period to suffer impairments matching those ...
In America, marijuana is the most used drug after alcohol and tobacco. Marijuana is used by millions of Americans, despite the harsh laws illegalizing the drug. Some states, such as Washington and Colorado have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Efforts to legalize the drug in other states have been unsuccessful such as Proposition 19 in California, which failed in 2010 despite uptight campaigns. Billions of dollars are spent at the state, local, and federal level to fight the use of marijuana. Millions are arrested for marijuana offenses and sentenced for extended periods. Marijuana has negative effects on the human health and high potential for addiction. Legalizing marijuana will eliminate the black market, which is responsible for the increase in violence, crime, and corruption. Resources used for mass incarceration in the war on drug can be redirected to rehabilitation to decrease drug abuse and addiction.
How many more times are you going to be lied to by the government? The government has made it seem like the marijuana plant is a drug that has no good use and is bad for the people. But that’s not true. They keep it illegal for reasons to benefit them. Marijuana has so many reasons why it should be legal. Cannabis is a natural plant that has been made illegal by the United States, and has been a controversial topic ever since the 1920’s. Marijuana is a substance that has been used hundreds of years ago as an herbal medicine and also can be used for textile products from hemp, which is from the Cannabis Sativa plant. Because of marijuana being categorized as a schedule one substance, it has no medical value and cannot be researched in the United States. Marijuana is said to be a gateway drug and is very unhealthy for adolescents with premature brains. The marijuana prohibition should finally come to a close because there are many benefits from cannabis and it is less harmful than both alcohol and tobacco.

Why should marijuana be legalized?”. The most basic answer to the question of why should marijuana be legalized is as simple as there is no valid reason why it should be illegal in the first place. America “the land of the free” criminalizes the consumption of a plant that grows naturally on Earth. The prohibition of marijuana violates basic human rights as well as preventing further medicinal research and the potential economic growth this country desperately needs.
There are excessive numbers of people who remain incarcerated for nonviolent crimes related to illegal marijuana use. Legalizing marijuana would allow these people to be released, opening jail space for the true criminals. Legalizing marijuana would free up law enforcement officers from focusing on illegal marijuana use and allow focus to be put on more serious crimes.
Why should marijuana become legal? Marijuana is a completely misunderstood drug and is thought of as bad, which in fact it is anything but. This completely natural plant brings millions of people relief from the pains they feel on an everyday basis. The benefits it brings to the table simply just out ways the disadvantage of it. Marijuana became “forbidden” because of people’s gullibility and ignorance of it without knowing the positive benefits it can have, instead people and the government focus on all the wrong reasons.
First of all, marijuana can have many positive effects on crime. Legalizing marijuana can actually decrease crime rates in the U.S. This past year, it was counted that 6.9 million people are inside the American’s jails and prisons. 60,000 of these individuals were there for marijuana according to one study. With the legalization of marijuana, it would cut the amount of tax we pay for these jails and prisons, costing us a total of 1.2 billion. Last year a total of 7 to 10 billion dollars was used towards arresting and processing against marijuana. The big picture here is that 90% of those arrests were just for possession. It is crazy that as a country we spend most of our time trying to stop the biggest drug in America when it is just wasting our money. There are less arrests on violent crimes than marijuana charges combined. These “violent crimes” consist of assault, rape, robbery, and murder. How awful is it that we waste our time on this drug when there are so many other bigger problems we could be solving or people to be saved. Cocaine and heroin arrests have actually decreased by 1/3 from 1991 to 2000. While marijuana has more than 700,000 people are ar...
A contemporary issue that I would like to discuss, is the legalization of marijuana for medical use. It is a bit weird that I have a strong opinion on legalizing marijuana, but the purpose why I want to write about it, is not for those who use them incorrectly, but those who need marijuana for medical purpose. Throughout my high school years until now, I have seen many situations when it comes from some individuals that are currently in need of marijuana for medical purpose, unfortunately, there are some several states that haven’t allow a law to be passed. The reason that certain states haven’t passed a law on legalizing marijuana, is mainly about how marijuana is being used. Between those who use marijuana, are both medical and recreational
Marijuana should be allowed to be legalized because Marijuana never really shows a health risk, nor does it really give a side effect from using it. Even though Marijuana is a drug it is not considered as a gateway drug. Marijuana is a great way for kids to stop having seizures, also the drug for the kids helps them be in a better mood and help with other problems. When marijuana is used, there isn't enough evidence to show that marijuana is addictive. This drug could help those people with problems, help those parents to see their child calm. These parents would like to see their child be calm and happy from what they go through.
