Are marijuana consumers considered patients or criminals to you? Is it fair to put people who are simply growing plants behind bars? Personally, I do see marijuana do phenomenal things to better lives. Why should we be left out of the tax money that would help our state, replacements from toxifying medications, and healing severe diseases and illnesses safely? For these reasons, this is why I support legalizing marijuana in Iowa.
To start off, the legalization of marijuana in Iowa would bring in tax from dispensaries which would help fund schools, hospitals, shelters which in my eyes would be very beneficial to our state and local community. “From small towns that could barely dot the state's largest urban areas, revenue from retail marijuana sales is helping communities address homelessness, send children to college, fill potholes, secure water rights, and fund an array

of projects”( illescas,) Aurora, Colorado is using $1.5 million of its revenue from pot sales and fees to address its homeless issue. Money is also going to road improvements(Illescas, www.denverpost.com). In Denver, Colorado it cost $30 for ⅛ oz=3.5 grams of bud,$3.00=10% special state tax, $0.87=2.9% regular state tax, $1.43=4.8% regular Denver tax, $1.05=3.5% special state tax. Total amount= $36.35, tax paid=$8.48. Tax rate is 30.4% of the price of $27.87 of bud (Rittiman, KUSA News). In May 2015, the Legislative Revenue Office quadrupled their estimated net marijuana tax that they were expecting to receive through June, 30, 2016 from $8.4 million to 35 million. This was so much more than what they had expected to make from sales tax on pot. (Selsky,). If legalized, it could help fund programs that would drastically improve communities just by marijuana tax. My second reasoning would be that marijuana could replace harmful and potentially fatal, as well as addicting, prescription narcotics.
Prescription medications can have horrible and or traumatizing withdraws and side effects. Marijuana is less addicting than many highly prescribed narcotics, such as muscle relaxants, hypnotics, and analgesics and these classifications of prescriptions can be very damaging after a long period of time. (Dr.Grinspoon). Cannabis's lethal dose is approximately 1,500 pounds of bud consumed in 15 minutes, which is physically impossible and has never even come close to be reached by anyone. In Venice Beach in Los Angeles, people pay about $40 for a medical marijuana card and legally buy marijuana and smoke a joint making it easy to get there medican. Prescription pill medications can take weeks to get let alone weeks to get the right treatment plan to get the medication. Vicodin (painkiller), Xanax (anti-anxiety), Adderall (stimulant), Zolof t(antidepressant)(WIKIMEDIA). Marijuana has never had a case of overdosing, making it one of the safest medications in my
eyes. Last of all, marijuana tremendously helps with parkinson's, cancer treatment side-effects, anorexia, and it can help ease anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, and depression. THC=Tetrahydrocannabinol (tet·ra·hy·dro·can·nab·i·nol)-the main compound in marijuana and it reduces beta-amyloid levels in nerve cells which is a main protein in the alzheimer's chromosome. Parkinson's affects 1 million people everyday, occurring when the brain stops producing dopamine, causing pain and loss of normal monterey funchen. ( Loewy) Studies have shown that marijuana helps with certain symptoms of cancer treatments like nausea and vomiting. Marijuana that is heated up and vaporized can help neuropathic pain which often goes along with cancer treatment effects. HIV patients can eat easier and consume more food when using marijuana. Reports are showing that the compounds THC and CBD slow and or may kill certain cancer cells.. But my point is that marijuana is something that could help a lot of people. Why should we keep it from people who want or need it. Just because it is legalized doesn't mean you have to use it. The money it could bring in could help our communities. Sites throughout essay
If marijuana was legalized in all states this would significantly decrease government spending on trying to prevent a drug that is very easily accessible. “Harvard Economist Jeffrey Miron, estimates that state and federal governments spend an excess of $20 billion per year fighting this little green plant… to add insult to injury, these efforts continue to fail as cannabis is more available than ever before.” (Gov. Reg.) This would save taxpayer money which could be used for other public works
Why isn 't marijuana legal in the United States? Marijuana could serve many purposes to the human body and the community. In 1937, the government issued the Marijuana Tax Act. This act immediately criminalized marijuana. This means you can not have possession of the drug for medical purposes or not. This act is still in effect today, but it should be repealed .
Marijuana has a greater beneficial impact on society then many people realize. Marijuana should be legalized for medical as well as recreational purposes. This is a highly controversial issue that is being debated throughout the country. In essence marijuana is evaluated by the effectiveness of the drug. It is defined as the dried flowered clusters and leaves of a hemp plant smoked for the intoxicating effect. Whether it should be legalized or not is the real question.
Marijuana is a shredded mix of dry flowers, stems and the seeds of a plant called cannabis and people usually smoke it in the form of cigarettes for relaxation. Ever since marijuana hit mainstream America over 30 years ago, government prohibition of it has been the subject of an ongoing debate. Should marijuana be legalized? Proponents of marijuana argue that there are numerous medical benefits and that the drug is not more harmful than tobacco or alcohol. Therefore, prohibiting it intrudes on personal freedom. On the other hand, opponents argue that marijuana is too dangerous; its legalization would increase the chances of the drug falling into the hands of kids and that marijuana use often progresses to the use of more dangerous drugs like heroin and cocaine. In the past decade, a number of movements to legalize the use of marijuana has been gaining momentum. According to the 2011 Gallup survey, a record high 50% of Americans say that marijuana should be legalized and this figure marks a 4% increase compared to the previous year. Support for legalizing marijuana was 30% in 2000, 40% in 2009 before reaching 50% last year. This shows that despite government efforts to eliminate its use, marijuana is becoming more popular. More and more people realize that legalizing marijuana brings a host of benefits. It not only offers medical benefits to the terminally ill but it could also be a source of tax revenues and could save the tax payers billions of dollars that is spent on enforcement costs.
Legalizing marijuana, in my opinion, would be a good thing for me. No, I do not smoke marijuana or cigars simply due to the fact that it is against my religion. I am for legalization because; there are many gains from the plant. I want it legalized because; there are many medical uses for it. I have read many scholarly journals and have been exposed to multiple individual that have used marijuana. An excellent example of this is a research done with the use of marijuana. This research does not show how marijuana effects the human body, but the fact that doctors due know that it has benefits and that the numbers shows records of patient using the drug. In the paper it says that “Fifty percent of the sample reported that they used marijuana as a substitute for prescription medicine”
The issue of legalizing marijuana has been around for decades and there are many people on either side of the issue. Millions of people support the legalization of marijuana and those people have reasons as to why they think marijuana should be legalized throughout the United States. People for the legalization of the drug argue it will boost the already weak economy and bring in large sums of money for the national and state governments. Another claim they have made is that it will help prevent the war on drugs in Mexico and the public concern for the war has given momentum to the cause of legalizing marijuana. On the other side of this situation, millions of people oppose legalizing marijuana because of the ill-effects it has on its users.
Marijuana has been a frequently abused drug for quite some time, but is just now receiving national attention on the controversial issue of the question if it should become legalized, and what effects this will have on Americans and their communities. Recently there have been many arguments made about how marijuana should be legalized for medical reasons since, for example, it is a great option for people attempting to manage their chronic pain. By legalizing the drug, many people will begin to accept the fact that it is okay and will result in an extreme increase in drug use throughout the United States. Marijuana is known to be a gateway drug in the sense that it leads to a person using narcotics that have even worse physical and mental effects
The legalization of marijuana has the potential to bring our economy back to life if it were to be legalized. There are a number of ways in which legalization could improve the economy. We could use the revenue from taxes on marijuana to provide a better quality of life for Americans in need. Legalizing marijuana would also save us money by cutting the cost of putting someone in jail for harmless marijuana-related charges that waste tax money. Also, it would put more money into circulation by keeping the profits off the black market and into the legal and taxed market.
Cannabis, more commonly known as marijuana, is a plant that people have been using recreationally for years. In fact, people have consumed marijuana since ancient times. Until 1906, the year the United States Congress passed the Pure Food and Drug Act. The debate on whether or not marijuana should be legalized in the United States has really blown up within the last decade. And finally, in 2012, Colorado became the first state to officially legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational uses. The prohibition of marijuana has gone on for far too long, and it is time for America to change its views.
If given a chance, marijuana could help us in more ways than we think. If you are opposed to marijuana, think of all the circumstances pending. Your children's education could be brighter because of marijuana. Your ride home from work would be a lot less bumpy because of marijuana. Your taxes would be lower because of a declined prison population. Marijuana could undergo advanced medical testing. Who knows, if tested enough, we might be able to find a cure for some illusive disease.
In America, marijuana is the most used drug after alcohol and tobacco. Marijuana is used by millions of Americans, despite the harsh laws illegalizing the drug. Some states, such as Washington and Colorado have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Efforts to legalize the drug in other states have been unsuccessful such as Proposition 19 in California, which failed in 2010 despite uptight campaigns. Billions of dollars are spent at the state, local, and federal level to fight the use of marijuana. Millions are arrested for marijuana offenses and sentenced for extended periods. Marijuana has negative effects on the human health and high potential for addiction. Legalizing marijuana will eliminate the black market, which is responsible for the increase in violence, crime, and corruption. Resources used for mass incarceration in the war on drug can be redirected to rehabilitation to decrease drug abuse and addiction.

Second it can help people fight their cancer. Lastly it is known to be less harmful than other legal drugs such as oxycontin.
The drug marijuana has been around for many years. Until recently, the public opinion for the most part has been one of no tolerance. People were once appalled by marijuana and the drug was closely associated with many sketchy practices like gangs and criminals. But within the last few years, a trend has started that is shifting American’s minds into thinking that marijuana isn't so bad after all (Galston and Dionne Jr.). Many activists are pushing for the legalization of the drug for both medical and recreational purposes. Let’s start with medical marijuana. According to procon.org, there are twenty-three states where the use of medical marijuana is legal. Twenty of these states require the user to live in state (“23 Legal
