The number of victims of human trafficking annually reaches 21 million. Human trafficking is controversial because it is so widespread and affects millions of people. As well as people are for human trafficking because it is beneficial to the economy and people are against it because it is a violation of human rights. The best solution for human trafficking is to regulate laws and spread awareness.

On the other hand, there is still a deficit of awareness among the population. People still don't know what they should do when they suspect human trafficking activities in their neighbourhood. There is no widely known anonymous reporting mechanisms that encourages people to cooperate with law enforcement(Laws Are Not Enough, We Should All Fight Human Trafficking) When people think of human trafficking they tend to think it doesn't happen in western countries but it does frequently. "Human trafficking is not an issue that only exists in other countries" she says. "American-born women and girls, as well as a smaller percentage of boys, are bought, sold, and exploited in the sex trade. It is important to recognize that trafficking victims are often lured or coerced into prostitution as young adolescents”(hall). The effects of the public generally unaware about human trafficking is that it overall fuels human trafficking. For example, many businesses or social media apps are unaware of how their business are being used to traffic people. “In other cases, they are aware of how their business may be facilitating the conditions needed for the trafficking operations, and the profits they generate outweigh reservations they may have about their role”(The Traffickers). Businesses offering service can help fight against human trafficking. Understanding how traffickers use these businesses to exploit victims is the first step to helping human trafficking. These businesses are able to identify victims and report situations of trafficking. If businesses become more aware and help they can help make it harder for human traffickers to do what they do. Also the general public isn’t aware about human trafficking. When human trafficking situations happen to people around them, they tend to not know what to do and how to help.
