In today’s society, anywhere from Hong Kong to Detroit, Michigan, a major disregard to Earth and its inhabitants, substantial resources, and well-being has been created; in other words, the Earth has been taken advantage of. With all earth’s inhabitants being unconscious of their actions and how it directly effects Earth, we have unknowingly increased the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in our oceans, atmosphere, and planet in general. With this detrimental amplification in the amount of CO2 on Earth, we, as inhabitants to this infected planet, should show more concern with the Earth’s temperature, phases and stages, and reactions we have self-created. Global warming, which has been retermed climate change, is not something everyone believes,
The major issue is when humans add more Co2 into the air than the Earth can get rid of at a healthy rate. Because more and more trees being cut down by humans, the rate and amount of Co2 that can be converted into oxygen is decreasing. Now there is a surplus of Co2 in the air and significantly fewer trees to get rid of it. This climate change is affecting all matters of life, making the glaciers melt. A good percentage of the Earth’s fresh water is trapped in the glaciers and ice of the Arctic and Antarctic. In return, these glaciers are melting and increasing the amount of fresh water in the ocean. The fundamental reason more water in the ocean is bad that is water levels will rise and decrease the amount of land safe for human use. If all the glaciers were to melt, most major cities across the world could end up underwater and eventually be uninhabitable. With the glaciers and ice melting, an unfathomable and unreasonable amount of freshwater has been released into the oceanic water, decreasing the salinity levels of the ocean, making it more acidic where fish and coral reefs can’t handled hurricane Katrina, we were dumbfounded, astonished, and overall unprepared. The city of New Orleans became a blood bath. Water surpassed boundaries and came rushing into people’s lives. This effected our country physically, mentally, and even economically. It’s not that we could avoid the situation but here were better ways the approach it once it happened. Because we didn’t handle it in the best way, everyone panicked. Furthermore, this panic is not a one-time occurrence, but instead happens time and time again because we still fail to see our habitual effects that we have on this
Global climate change and its apparent effects have been the subject of much discussion for a number of years. It is often claimed that this change is too advanced and the damage caused by it is irreversible, meaning that any efforts by us to undo this are in vain. Although I agree that our planet has become unalterably changed, I don’t entirely concur that this change is now completely beyond repair.
How would you like to live in a home that is beginning to fall apart, but only to go on about your day and continue to neglect it until it all comes crashing down? Humans and animals share this beautiful planet that we call home. But this beautiful home of ours is being regularly and increasingly torn apart by our own ignorant actions. These actions of ours have begun to unravel the very world in which we live, causing a self-inflicted crisis known as Global Climate Change. Global Climate Change is a severe dilemma, and it is continuously becoming more evident to the world’s population that climate change is being caused by changes in the reflectivity of earth’s atmosphere and surface, the ever changing variations of energy from the sun reaching the earth, and the daunting increase in greenhouse gasses.
Actually, the sea level rising is one of the biggest problems. It can hurt human directly. Although it looks like a natural situation, it’s a very serious problem. “Only a third of the world’s polar bears may be left within 50 years because of thinning ice from global warming in the Arctic” (Heilprin, 2007, par. 1). It’s too fast reduction, and Polar bears’ reduction is related with many things.
One of the most compelling and difficult environmental problems society faces today is climate change. People do not realize how much the environment has changed for the worse in the last ten years, until they are told that the last two decades of the 20th century have been the hottest in the last 400 years, according to climate studies (Conserve Energy Future). Today, the carbon dioxide levels have reached 396.81 parts per million (ppm). “Carbon dioxide (CO2) has also increased over the last 100 years-- from about 300 ppm to 370 ppm. Interestingly, the majority of these additions have occurred in the last 50 years, when temperature increases have been the slowest” (geocraft).
Surprisingly enough, 97% of scientists agree that climate change is real and caused by detrimental human activities (Vaidyanathan, 2014). Climate change is a real problem that the world is facing right now politically and ethically. The reality of climate change boils down to the average temperature rising over the past 140 years, arctic sea-ice melting at inconceivable proportions and skeptics without proper certification authenticating or challenging claims made by scientists on either side of the argument.
For hundreds of years, humans have been burning coal and oil expand their economy. In the Twentieth century, countries used coal to develop and become more technologically advanced. What people did not know back then was that when coal is burned it releases CO2 into the air. This carbon creates a thick layer in the Earth’s atmosphere, blocking heat waves from escaping earth. This excessive amount of heat trapped in our atmosphere increases the overall global temperature. The increased temperature causes something called Climate Change. Climate Change is the changes to the earth’s overall climate regarding things like weather, storms, and sea-level, among other things (Weart). Although humans now know that burning coal is harmful to our environment,
Climate change. The two letter word so feared by scientists, so ignored by the average human being. What is it that makes scientists fear this phrase so much? For the concept of “climate change” has been seen throughout the history of the earths existence. For centuries, our climate has fluctuated through increasing and decreasing amounts of atmospheric carbon dioxide and climatic cycles. So what is the big deal? The problem, and the reason why this concept instills fear directly into the core of scientists is the rate at which over the past 1,300 years atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have risen. This unnatural increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide, due to the immense amount of anthropogenic burning of oil and coal, affects the transfer
The United States must combine with other nations to come up with a plan to reduce emissions and overall put in an effort to fight global warming. Since the industrial revolution, humans have come a long way, inventing things like airplanes and faster cars. That also means that humans are releasing more carbon emissions than ever and releasing non-naturally occurring greenhouse gases because of our high demand to burn fossil fuels. President Obama met with global leaders and decided to reduce global carbon emissions and to set the world on a course to a low carbon future. The issue of climate change hasn’t been as big of a priority for the US as it should be. In 2008, America was the largest emitter of greenhouse gases until China became the
The climate change issue until a few years ago for me was simply a buzzword and was no more than that. I could hear, read, see, much information about climate change, but I never was caring about it. I remember clearly I had no interest in this kind of topics, in some way I thought global warming was just an excuse for people to keep the mind busy. Exactly two years ago I met a young woman named Andrea, which by then was new in my work. I was fortunate enough to coach Andrea and develop a beautiful friendship and she always used to talk about the conservation of animal species and climate change. Andrea always told me and tried to persuade me to be a more conscious person about the damage humans do to our only home; our planet earth. The inspiration to
Climate change is a highly controversial subject amongst the academic community. This is primarily due to the uncertainty of its causation. Some speculators whom call themselves ‘climate skeptics’ believe that humankind is not capable of destroying our planet. However, the United Nations and countless scientists worldwide agree that not only is humanity able to murder the blue planet, but humanity is well on its way to causing irreversible damage to our atmosphere, effecting all life on Earth. This rift in the mindsets between the two sides of the scientific community has enormous connotations, as an incorrect solution to this problem could quite possibly permit global catastrophes to occur. Unfortunately, the climate change theory was not
Climate change is one of the most discussed topics of the twenty-first century. Although this subject is very often on the daily basis of lots of people, most of them do not know much about it. So let us define climate change. People think that climate change is the same thing as global warming. However, global warming only represents one aspect of climate that is temperature. Climate change is any significant change in temperature, precipitation, or a wind pattern that occur over several decades or longer.
For many years now climate change has been a hot topic all over the world. Every day the atmosphere is filled with new amounts of greenhouse gases, which affect the climate on earth. It has reached a point where some are starting to believe that we have crossed the point of no return. Is the planet heading for inevitable destruction and is there no chance of reversion?
Global warming has become on of the most controversial issues in the media today. While most of the Western world countries have generally accepted the premise that man's chemical emissions in the atmosphere can and are affected by the world’s climate patterns, in the United States, the issue has become so politicized with many republicans challenging the science behind the theory. Global warming is a greenhouse effect whereby gases are trapped on the earth’s surface causing it to heat up (Maslin 14). It is based on the worldwide temperature records that have been maintained by human beings through their activities since the 1880,s. In addition, global warming is not only caused by human activities only but also through climate changes in solar radiance. The problem is that, humans continue to contribute to the global warming phenomenon. All citizens should work in reducing human activities that cause global warming and also support the development of nuclear power. Scientists deem that, global warming is mainly caused by human activities which accelerate the natural process by creating greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Human activities have become a great contribution to the greenhouse effect and this means that climate changes are inevitable. They further argue that, if these activities continue and are not reduced, it will lead to more trapping of energy radiated from the earth and this will likely lead to extreme weather and global warming. Global warming should be at reduced levels or else, it will be catastrophic.
Our planet warms due to Greenhouse gases. It exists naturally in our atmosphere. It trapped heat energy which comes from the sun. This process is called the greenhouse effect. If it is not present, the surface of the earth will be cold as surface of moon about –18 Celsius. Average temperature of the earth 's surface is about 15 Celsius. Measurement taken from all over the world has shown that global climate is changing. A half of the degree Celsius is increased from last 100 years. Humans have been releasing extra greenhouse gases during this time. In these gases includes carbon-dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. It is assumed that emissions of greenhouse are by man-made from the increased use of fossil fuels. These fossil fuels are responsible for global warming during the 20th century. These gases are released by the exhausts of motor vehicles and by the cutting down of forest. If all these activities will continue, the temperature of the earth’s surface may 3 degree warmer by the end of the 21th century. This rapid change in temperature has many impacts on the environment
One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”). Everyone should be knowledgeable about global warming and the dangers that it brings to our planet. This essay will examine
