Most of society will say they support equal rights for homosexuals. Ask the same members if they support gay marriage and they become hesitant. Recently the majority of Americans will vote for the Constitutional Amendment, which puts a ban on gay marriage. Ironically, these same Americans do believe in the equal rights to the gay community just like any other heterosexual citizen. In my personal opinion, gay marriage should be globally accepted
The biggest misunderstanding in this hot topic is that those of the gay community have a "choice" to whom they can feel attracted to but simply choose to be gay. Just as heterosexuals do not "choose" who they are attracted to, neither do homosexuals. Multiple anti-gay groups claim that “homosexuality is preventable and treatable” as well as "living as a homosexual is not as happy-go lucky as frequently portrayed in the entertainment media.” How can someone with no personal experience of being gay say that homosexuality can be "changed," or even whether a homosexual can be happy or not? What about the research done proving that homosexuality is purely genetic? No one "chooses" to live a life filled with prejudice and discrimination. Even I, being a bisexual individual still receive “advice” on how to “save myself” and am often told that “there is still time to save myself.”
Homosexuality is often looked at as being purely about sex, often being called a "sexual perversion.” The reality is that homosexuality is varied. Sex, in any committed relationship, is a means of expressing love. This is true whether in a heterosexual or homosexual relationship. Love is unconditional. Being gay represents who that person is and forms their identity. Instead of trying to understand that, heterosexuals ...

...me-sex couples cannot provide the proper environment to raise a child. Well, take a look at who many of these critics allow to marry and raise children: murderers, child molesters, convicted felons of all sorts, and so on. Yet this preferred to a gay couple free of criminal history that in fact does embrace morals? If a same-sex couple can provide a loving and caring home, then where is harm done? The child, as well as the love for the child, must be a priority in every family, no matter the gender of the parents.
Gay marriage is defined as a legal union between members of the same sex. Ten percent of Americans, because of their sexual orientation are denied the right to marry. As a country we need to move away from illogical reasoning, whether it be based on ignorance or prejudice. We need to allow every individual the civil right to wed his or her life partner.
Most scientists and psychologists believe that homosexuality is caused by a gene determined at birth much like your hair, skin, and eye color are determined, meaning homosexuality is not a choice and is no more a choice than choosing your skin color. Studies known as adoption studies show that sexual preference is genetic by adopting a young infant child and placing them in either a homosexual or h...
Legal marriage is the right of all Americans regardless of their sexual orientation. Gay marriage is certainly a hot button issue. It invokes an emotional dialogue filled with passion, rage, hate and fear. However, at the base of it all, are two people who are in a committed relationship living normal and productive lives and contributing to society in a positive manner. This issue is being debated in every state of the union, and will eventually go to the Supreme Court.
Gay marriage is a matter of civil rights. Jennifer Hamady wrote, “Marriage, as an institution, has evolved greatly throughout human history.” Not long ago, marriage implied having stay-at-home wives, with the male being the “bread-winner” but this is no longer the case. Marriage has evolved to not only being a more equal union but also, many women are taking the role as the primary earner. In the same way, marriage could evolve from being just between a man and a woman to same-sex couples. On ProCon.org, it stated that marriage, among many other things, is "one of the basic civil rights of man," and same-sex marriages should be looked at similarly to and receive the same protection as interracial marriages. In 2012, the NAACP named same-sex marriage as "one of the key civil rights struggles of our time," and just like other civil rights issues of the past, we must learn to accept it and move past it. Marriage constitutes certain rights. In legal standing, spousal rights should apply to same-sex couples, allowing them to reap the same benefits such as tax deductions, insurance, and recognition of their union. This includes rights recognition as being part of your “family” du...
Generally homosexuality refers to or characterized by a propensity to direct sexual craving toward another individual of the same sex. It involves sexual interaction between individuals of the same sex. Apart from the general perception, homosexuality is not a genetic imperfection, a hormonal inequality, any mental illness or outcome of the demonic possession. In simple words, homosexuality is learned through a composite mixture of determining sexual elements and personal choices. Various same-sex attracted people have a sense of being special from others since their early age. With the passage of time their belief gets strong that they are different from others as they are born “Gay”. (WHAT IS HOMOSEXUALITY? 2014)
Marriage is a “socially recognized and approved union between individuals, who commit to one another with the expectations of a stable and lasting intimate relationship. It begins with a ceremony known as a wedding which formally unites marriage partners. A marital relationship usually involves some kind of contract, either written or specified by tradition, which defines the partners’ rights and obligations to each other, to any children they may have, and to their relatives. In most contemporary industrialized societies, marriage is certified by the government,” (Skolnick, 2005). Marriage is also an important institution because of the impact it has on society. Marriage is the main way that reproduction of human life occurs. In some societies it is tradition for family heirlooms or things of value be passed on through marriage. Marriage also serves as a healthy way to have intimate relationships with an individual. In most places a marriage exists between two people of the opposite sex. However, the legal definition of marriage is currently being challenged by many. According to Skolnick’s article a marriage can be defined by responsibilities that a couple would share, some examples are: living together, having sexual relations, sharing money and financial responsibilities, and having a child together. The issue is that homosexual couples can do these things like heterosexual couples.
The general meaning of homosexuality As (Eriksen,1995) says, Homosexuality as it was previously mentioned that it is a sexual attraction to or sexual relations with members of the same sex, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex (dictionary.com). According (Bruce, 1993) “The problem of homosexuality involves much more than simply a sexual act. Those caught up in this sin usually have entered the homosexual lifestyle to some degree. The following party is being divided to clearly explain homosexuality into varies componence: behavior, mental response, identity.
The recognition of same-sex marriage is a political, social, and religious issue. Because of this same-sex marriage is a very controversial topic. Legal acknowledgement of same sex marriage is commonly referred to as marriage equality. Many advocates of marriage equality argue that laws restricting marriage to only heterosexuals discriminate against homosexuals. On the other hand advocates against same-sex marriage argue that it would undo long-standing traditions and change the meaning of marriage in a damaging manor. In this essay I will be arguing for same-sex marriage. The arguments mentioned as well as others will be discusses throughout this paper.
Why should humans be criticized on who they marry? Same-sex marriage couples need to be able to get legally married. "Marriage is social and cultural; the meaning varies in important ways including historical and cultural boundaries" (Pope). Marriage should not just be legal for just the opposite sex couples, let people love and commit their lives to whoever they may be with. 17 states in the U.S. today have allowed gay marriage, and have made it legal to get married within a same-sex relationship. This has come very far since 1988 when gay marriage was brought upon: 17 states out of 50 states, that’s a high increase. “From 1988 to 2012, public support for gay marriage increased at a rate of 1 to1.5 points per year” (Pope). It is pleasant that the opinion and support for gay marriage has increased, everyone is created equal, and everyone should get the same rights. Many states, local governments, and private companies have laws or formal policies...
“Self pity becomes your oxygen. But you learned to breathe it without a gasp. So, nobody even notices you're hurting.” Every person who identifies as any of LGBTQPIA, (or Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer, Questioning, Pansexual, Intersex, and Asexual) can connect directly to this quote by Paul Monette, who wrote it specifically for this group of people. Thousands of people daily are shamed for being a part of it. They are taught to despise themselves for who they are. “Gay Pride” is a common LGBT phrase for a reason: to teach people who are a part of the LGBTQPIA community that they don’t have to be ashamed of themselves. LGBT rights need a lot of work, but before we can make the commitment to do so, we need to make these groups accepted in all of America, not in only a few rare “safe places.”
On June 26, 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the right for same-sex couples to marry. Should gay marriages be legal? Clearly we as a nation are undecided on this issue. Thirty-six states have passed legislation banning gay marriages, yet a few states have passed laws that allows homosexual couples the right to participate in civil unions. Several other states are also debating whether or not to allow these couples to marry. Unfortunately, the dispute has left the United States' homosexual community in an awkward position. There are some people who think that gay people have no rights and should never be allowed to marry, and others believe that gay people should enjoy the same rights and privileges as heterosexuals. I think that the United States should allow same-sex couples to marry just like heterosexual couples.
Quite often people ask the question, why should gay marriage be legalized? However, what they should really be asking is: why should other people be able to decide who one can or can not marry? When a marriage occurs between a man and a woman, society does not seem to care. Yet, when two men or two women decide to marry, society acts like it is completely absurd. People do not realize how beneficial legalizing same-sex marriage can be.
The treatment of the LGBT community in American Society is a social injustice. What most people think is that they just want to be able to marry one another and be happy but that’s not it. They want to be treated like humans and not some weird creatures that no one has ever seen before. They want to be accepted for who them are and not what people want them to be and they deserve the right to be who they are just the same as any other human being. After all the discrimination they have endured they should be allowed to be who they are and be accepted as equals just like people of different skin color did in the times of segregation. We have a long way to go as a country but being the greatest country in the world in the eyes of many great America will make big steps to make things fair.
Marriage is the joining of a man and a woman, who loves one another and wants to spend the rest of their lives together. It is not the joining of two women or two men and I do not believe the society our or U.S. government redefine the true meaning of marriage. I am against same sex marriage because of the following several reasons. Gay marriages are unacceptable in my opinion because it goes against God’s words. God’s word is the truth and no one can change it.
In recent years, same-sex marriage has become a more controversial topic on whether it’s right or wrong. People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same-sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same-sex marriages including financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks.
Marriage is just one way for two people to show their love for another. Whether it is two men, two women, or a man and a woman, love is love. People against gay marriage do not have the right to deny people of showing their love for one another. Everyone deserves the same rights as Americans and also just as people. The United States of America promotes freedom, liberty, and justice for all people. Same-sex couples are many times not included when it comes to marriage rights.
