Going to the zoo as a child became such a memorable experience that would last forever. I enjoyed looking at each animal as if I had never seen anything like it before. One of my favorite animals to admire was the panda bear. It was so different compared to all the other bears, and it seemed a lot friendlier than the others; so much that I wanted to climb the fence to pet it before my parents could stop me. Thankfully they did, because the mama bear was nearby. A couple years ago I visited the Baton Rouge zoo with some family members. We took a stroll through the zoo appreciating how close we can get to wildlife. In one of the cages I saw a baby panda bear playing with a blue ball and some rope. All I could think to myself was, I couldn’t imagine this cute, innocent animal going extinct or any other animal for that matter. Well according to the National Wildlife Federation, or the NWF it is very possible. Scientists say that if we do nothing to help endangered species, then those animals will be defenseless to extinction within the next century. The three mammals that are on the endangered list and I think are most interesting is the Panda bear, the Javan Rhino and the Tiger. When thinking of a century, it may seem a while away, but what people do now will affect the world in the future. All over the world there are animals, reptiles and amphibians becoming endangered and some are close to extinction. Unfortunately we are somewhat to blame. We have polluted the earth and cut down forests to take resources that we need to survive. Although we need those resources, it is threatening to wildlife and needs to change. Some of our activities led to the current rate of extinction, which is higher than the normal natural rate. Based on... ... middle of paper ... ... chain. Besides humans, there are only a few threats to tigers. Large buffaloes, bears and elephants can intimidate them. With the advantage of having large claws, quick reflexes, being magnificent swimmers and climbers, it saves them from flash floods or other natural disasters. With so few threats to this top predator it is amazing how they are slowly becoming extinct. Passionate people are under way to save these endangered species, and put an end to illegal hunting. As a young child I remembered how excited I was to see all those exotic animals. When I got older I would continue to think of the same thing, however; I would hear how some of those animals are close to extinction. Even if they are not as cute as your average dog or cat, it is still heartbreaking to think that within the next few decades, animals such as tigers, pandas and rhinos could be extinct.
After the Civil War, the United States faced the difficult task of reconstructing a country damaged physically, socially, and politically. Why was it difficult? Reconstruction – the process by which seceded states were to re-enter back into the Union – was difficult because of the differences between the Radical Republicans in Congress and Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson’s ideas on how to approach Reconstruction. The definitive goal of Reconstruction was to give former slaves the same rights as whites and to reunite the Union as effectively as possible, but the disagreement as how best this had to be done was what made Reconstruction neither a success, nor a failure, but something in between.
Conservationists and the ranchers that are having financial issues caring for their animals, without utilizing hunting, can take advantage of other resources to gain revenue. The ranch operators need to find alternatives to gain a source of income such as acquiring sponsors, donations, conducting guided tours or perhaps, providing educational programs. There are more humane methods of earning money than the killing of animals. Making use of the public's curiosity and interests is a resourceful tactic that can be very successful and beneficial to the economy.
For thousands of years scientist have been performing vivisections on animals to find information on new chemicals, drugs, and vaccines. Vivisection is when scientist perform dissections among living animals mostly for the purpose of educating and retrieving information. Experimenting on animals has become the tool that has helped us comprehend the body functions of an animal and how a disease transforms the bodily functions, but over the years it’s caused animal rights activists to question the usefulness and the sincerity of using animals for this purpose. Although animal research has been helpful in the past, it is morally wrong in the sense that experimenting on animals is not the only way to collect information. There are other alternatives
Hello United Nations! I am going to start off by telling you a little bit about us and our organization. We are the Organization for African Endangered Animals. We are a private agency in Africa who protect the welfare of endangered animals. We are the voice of the animals. They cannot speak for themselves so we speak for them. We do our best to protect our animals but we have limited sources and funding. Our focus right now is one of the most endangered species in the world, the Dama Gazelle.
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to look at the world from another point of view? Try looking at it from an animal's perspective. Surviving on your own, hiding from predators, and many more. Thats what zoologist do. Zoologist study the origin and development of animals species, their habits and behavior towards each other, and the way they act in different environments. They also do research to learn how animal diseases are developed and their traits are passed from generation to generation. They have a program out there called Greenpeace. Greenpeace is basically a volunteer system for people who want to learn more about animals and interact with them. Greenpeace is a very challenging job to achieve. In order to get very high in the career you start off with the basics of Volunteering and working your way up. It doesn’t really need a specific education unless working in the science field or program.

Animal cruelty is an issue that gets plenty of attention in the U.S. From all the commercials to the donation hotlines and tee shirts everyone in the states knows that it is a relevant issue, but what about testing on animals? It’s not as relevant or discussed as other forms of cruelty, but the truth is we kill thousands of innocent animals all for the hope that maybe a wrinkle or two may disappear. This is horribly insensitive and cruel and I really can’t believe that we could do this to such innocent and loving creatures. We have to accept that animals are not ours. Cosmetic testing on animals is not only cruel but illegal in several countries; innocent animals are constantly losing their lives for our vanity.
Humans domesticated dire wolves Canis lupus as early as 26,000 years ago. The real question here is why wolves. If you really think about it there are other animals out there that seem to be a much better choice for humans to utilize as hunter companions. Take the chimpanzee for instance it has hands and pose able thumbs. Seems like a chimp would make a great companion we could even teach it to use tools to aid itself in the adventures we send it on. Instead we chose to domesticate a vicious wolf that you know was not a easy venture. I think a chimp would have been a much easier task to do however we chose the wolf you ever wonder why? Well in my research I found it was a pretty easy decision but it was its shear ability to work well with
"Life is life 's greatest gift. Guard the life of another creature as you would your own because it is your own. On life 's scale of values, the smallest is no less precious to the creature who owns it than the largest" (Animal Welfare Quotes, 1). This quote is attributed to Lloyd Biggle Jr. Animal cruelty can be either deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal. Either way, whether the animal is a domesticated pet, a farm animal, or wildlife, the victim can suffer terribly. Like humans, animals need to be cared for, fed, be sheltered in order to live without fear or discomfort. However, not all animals are treated the way they should be, and some suffer pain, abandonment or mistreatment. Extended periods of abuse can lead to seriously compromised health or even death. Stressed adults take out their anger on their pet which leads to health issues in the animal. Domesticated pets can sense how their owner feels and can make the person feel
Leah Thrasher Mrs. Knox English IV March 16, 2014 Animal Rights When a pitbull named Oogy was first adopted, he was practically an unrecognizable dog. He was pure white except for the left side of his face which shone off rose pink scar tissue. Where his left ear should have been stood only a stump the size of a thumb. His mouth was lopsided with stitches coming out of the right end, and he looked more like a burn victim than a dog, yet he had an imperative look of joy about him. Oogy had been used as bait for dog fighting when he was only ten weeks old.
There are tremendous amount of debates that go on in this world on a daily basis. One of the most talked about debates of the century is that of animal rights and experimentations. This debate, also known in the animal rights community as vivisection, is one of the most difficult to understand. Individuals have numerous different outlooks on animals. Many individuals look upon animals as companions while others see animals as an object of advancing medical techniques. No matter what ones perception is of animals, the fact remains that animals are being exploited by research facilities and cosmetics companies all throughout the world. In spite of the fact that humans frequently benefit from successful animal experimentations, the pain, and occasionally death that often occurs is not worth the human benefit. Hence, animals should not be the use of research.
Everyone’s all seen those wildlife shows on tv. The shows on National Geographic and such, showing animals in beautiful environments, everything lush and growing and nothing at all wrong that could threaten these creatures and places. But, have anyone seen the other side? The side where all these beautiful creatures and plants starve, are decimated by predators that have never been there before, and sometime even become poisoned by their very own homes and habitats? Of course no one has. That doesn’t mean that its not happening. It is happening, and its happening everywhere. And guess who is to blame? People. Society. Humans as a race pollute the environment, hunt animals simply for their parts, fish way more than humans will ever need just for the sake of money, introduce new species to new places for our own gain, and even purposefully destroy entire regions just for human expansion. And its starting to take its toll. While it is true that nature is constantly in flux and certain species come and go, humans are causing more species to disappear in the past few hundred years then nature has ever caused since the age of the dinosaurs, and therefore it is up to humans to repair the damage caused, be it cleaning the environment and habitats of these creatures, or taking more direct action to protect and preserve the species that are on the brink of extinction.
This provides a legal safety net to stop and slow down the loss of plant and animal species. They hold federal agencies and others accountable for complying with laws protecting rare/endangered animals using persuasion and cooperation. They recommend increased funding for private landowners and conservation programs that could benefit animals. They protect and restore habitats that were lost. NWF also reduces threats to wildlife that can lead to endangerment including loss of habitat and pollution. India is now halting tiger tourism to prevent extinction of the animals. About 1,411 of these animals live in the wild, and they are in danger of being “loved to death.” Experts fear these big cats will become extinct in only five years. Poaching is the main reason for many deaths, but tourism has also impacted the tigers. The tourist vehicles drive away the tigers prey and hotels have been built over passageways the tigers used to travel from one place to another. Alligators, Bald Eagles, Wolves, Grizzly Bears, and Whooping Cranes were all saved by the U.S Endangered Species Act (ESA). The WWF is addressing the major threats to Australia’s
Although it may not seem saving or protecting endangered animals is important, it actually and truly is important because animals around the world are being killed for wildlife marketing purposes which is illegal and destroys the species population in that environment. Citizens should take more care of these endangered animals before they become totally extinct and will no longer be seen on the face of the earth. Recently researchers have found that poachers (hunters who hunt animals for their value by trading illegal merchandise) are killing thousands of animals a day, and they are doing so even to this day. These species should be treated with more responsibility and care. They are even being killed by human interactions such as deforestation, oil spills, etc.
