There is no doubt that, with time, many things in our society changes. One of those changes is how we have begun to process voting. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) are one of the many technological steps we, as a country, have taken. This change to how we contribute to our democratic system will allow an increase of accessiblity and ease among citizens, along with a more secure system. Voters with physical disabilities or voters who speak a different language can use the EVMs with ease and the EVMs are just as safe, if not safer, than paper ballots.

In 2003, when voters of different ages, races, and physical ability were polled after using EVMs, 97% said they had no trouble using the machines. While, admittedly, a national survey in 2004 researches from the California Institute of Technology found that only 32% of Americans 59 and older were comfortable with electronic voting there was a 2006 poll in Utah that returned with similar results as the polls tested in 2003. It is America's duty to ensure that its citizens can vote with relative ease. The EVMs allow that ease as they are equipped with audio and video systems intended for people with eyesight complications and have hand held devices for people who have trouble standing. With these assistive means, as well as others, the EVMs allow many American citizens to vote. Which then allows more people to have a proper say in the matters that concern
