Do you text while driving or know someone that does? Or perhaps know someone that has lost their life because of it? Yeah that's right, it causes accidents...puts lives at stake. Driving while using a cell phone is very dangerous. You definitely shouldn’t be doing it. Teen drivers are more likely to be distracted by cell phones than adults are. “Dialing a cell phone resulted in teens' crossing lane lines 53.8 percent more often than when not using the phone” (Ky Sisson 1). Teens have the highest crash rate of any group in the United States. “About 963,000 drivers age 16-19 were involved in police-reported crashes in 2013, which is the most recent year of available data. These crashes resulted in 383,000 injuries and 2,865 deaths” (Green 1). Many accidents are blamed on distracted driving and most of the distractions are caused by cell phone usage.¨Texting is a big distraction. We as a community must come together to be more focused while on the roads. Based upon the research that I have done over the past few days I believe that texting while driving is dangerous. The National Safety Council reports that cell phone use while driving leads to 1.6 million crashes each year. Most people agree that texting or going on social media while driving is dangerous, but some people think it’s totally fine to text or go on social media while driving. But it is very distracting. “Distractions that take the driver’s eyes away from the roadway the longest — such as visual-manual tasks — greatly increase a driver’s crash risk” (Gregoire 1).
