The statistics for bullying in American schools increase annually. Teachers, parents, and students are pleading for anti-bullying laws to be enforced before it is too late. Bullying in the younger years of one’s life can have various components and life-long side effects. The answer is evident; enforcing laws on bullying would hold the teachers, parents, and students accountable for the actions each make daily. Anti-bullying laws should be enforced in schools to prevent the mental, physical, and emotional damages among teens today.
The damages bullying can have on one’s life are severe. The health and wellbeing of a person is vital to the survival and the ability to go through life with happiness. The victims of bullying are being affected in a negative way. Victims of bullying have a hard time interacting with peers and teachers and suffer from stress and anxiety. The lack of interest to be in school and participate in extracurricular activities are the outcome of the negative damages bullying can cause.
Statistics proven by the National Association of School Psychologists Resources show over 3.2 million students are bullied each year and approximately 160,00 students miss school due to bullying (Andrea Cohn & Andrea Canter). These victims are suffering from mental, and physical damages. The damages can cause achy muscles, headaches, and trouble sleeping. These victims are suffering and have not had justice they deserve. These damages can be a hindrance on their life today, and the years to come.

Students need assurance of their safety and should feel comfortable talking to teachers and staff about various issues that are concerning to them. The schools are not properly prepared for bullying. The lack of enforcing rules and taking a stand against bullying makes decreasing the statistics much harder. Students each day go to school feeling unwanted and unloved, the means to stop these feelings are left in the hands of a much higher power. The parents, teachers, and peers among schools should be held accountable for the way they treat people. Bullying has life-long effects that can be prevented by ensuring justice for the victims of bullying. Anti-bullying laws will hold the students and teachers accountable and will provide a sense of security for each student that attends schools across America.
