Domestic animal abuse has been a big problem in the world today. People abuse animals for no reason and that is very crucial. Think about if you were them, would you like to be tortured? Animals have a meaning in this world. They do not deserve to be mistreated, they should be treated just as if they are human beings. According to Peta.org, “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.” These animals should not be tortured when they are peaceful creatures, they are like humans, and they are very helpful to us.
Unfair
Animals do not deserve to be treated wrong. It is not right for owners to abuse animals when they are just peaceful creatures. A lot of times owners think it is okay, in reality it is wrong. Courts are starting to aggressively penalize animal abusers. That is a good thing because if courts did not do that, people would abuse animals even more because they would not have to face a major consequence. About 1,828 animals die each year. Other people who live with the animal abuser may get abused, too. That is why if you know someone who is very cruel to animals, call the police to let them know. You can be in danger, too. Peta.org argues that animals have a right to be

They can feel the pain, too. Animals are abused with whips, chains, along with other sharp, painful objects. That is the worst thing someone can do to an animal. Animals do not mean to do anything to anyone. Abusing dogs is very common and you can get 2 to 5 years in prison if you abuse them. The humane society suggested that we take a stand in helping animals that are abused, “ It can be very upsetting to see someone beating or physically attacking an animal, but it's important not to turn away.” Many owners abuse their animals to death, which may involve a huge consequence if they are caught. Many cases are not called in, meaning that there is a large amount of unknown animal
Therefore, animal abuse is a growing trend in today’s society. This trend is bad for today’s society for reasons including death row for the animals, an increase in cost for animal shelters, and a decrease in space for the animals to be safe. Society can stop animal abuse by reporting anything they might see. Together, our society can put a stop to animal abuse, and protect our domesticated pets.
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated.” (Gandhi). Sadly it seems that there is much to be desired from America. Over the past few years there has been an increase in animal abuse, sadly numerous cases go unreported and unrecognized. It is estimated by the HSUS that every year nearly one million animals are abused or killed with connections of domestic violence. From this growing issue, it is seen that humans have power over animals.
Animal abuse is described generally as any act or omission that causes unnecessary or unreasonable harm to an animal. Animal abuse are vary and can lead to different forms. These may include, tormenting or beating an animal, executing an animal in a harsh way, binding or transporting an animal in a way that is improper for its welfare, neglecting to give fitting living conditions, neglecting to give proper or satisfactory sustenance or water for an animal and neglecting to give suitable treatment to infection or injury (Animal Cruelty, n.d.). In general, for an act to be considered as animal cruelty, it must be a non-accidental, socially unacceptable, enacted on a vertebrate animal, causing pain, suffering and distress or death. (Battle, 2013).
Animals and humans are very different, but one thing we have in common is the fact that we can both feel emotions and comprehend the world in a different perspective. Professor Peter Singer says, “The fundamental issue in determining how we may treat animals is whether they suffer and that the pains of animals and humans deserve equal considerations.” Vertebrates, also know as animals with a backbone, have the same nerves that humans have to feel pain. We have a moral obligation to animals to protect their rights as creatures of this earth and members of our modern day society. Animals have a life full of love and contentment, by torturing them we are denying them that right.
Animal cruelty is just one reason why animal abuse is bad. Part of the problem is people who hurt animals don’t do it on purpose they just do not know how to take care of the animals (Mason 6). Other times people enjoy engaging in watching two animals fight. Some owners test them to see if they are good fighting dogs and if they are not they kill their dogs This one owner killed his dogs that would not fight by hanging, drowning and slamming the dogs (Dohrmann). Most of the time when the animals fight one of the animals dies and the other of is badly injured (Mason 31). The people that watch place bets on which dog they think will win. This is cruel to the animal because they have to fight if they don’t they may die. If they don’t die they
There are many statistics that come with animal abuse. Did you know that 71% of all domestic violence cases state that the attacker harmed the animal(s) as well (animalcruelty.weebly.com ; 5th dot)? 47 out of the 50 U.S. states treat animal abuse as a felony(www.humainsociety.org/issues/abuse_neglect/ ;4th paragraph). In all animal abuse cases 64.5% involve dogs (1212 cases, mainly pitbulls), 18% (337 cases), and 25% (470 cases) involve other animals being harmed (www.humainsociety.org/issues/abuse_neglect/facts/animal_cruelty_facts_statistics.html#.u3E...
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
When an animal is beaten, it not only causes the animal to be physically harmed, but it can also result in the animal receiving severe psychological damage. The abuse can cause the animal to become afraid of all humans, whether they are abusive or not. Not only can the victim become afraid of humans, it can cause it to even be hostile towards people and other animals. For example, if a dog’s previous owner was abusive, that can end in the dog being aggressive towards others due to its fear of being hurt like he/she was in the past. A tremendous part of animal cruelty that people do not recognize is the abuse of animals is linked to the abuse of humans in many cases. Animal neglect correlates with human neglect, which usually involves a child, elder, or other dependent (Animal Legal Defense Fund). In a survey, seventy-one percent of domestic violence victims said that their abuser also turned their household pet into a victim of abuse (Animal Cruelty Facts and Statistics). In a study completed in 1983, eighty-eight percent of families under investigation for child abuse partook in animal abuse along with the abuse of their child (Animal Cruelty Facts and Statistics). Not only does this cruelty affect the victims, but it can also affect the ones witnessing the violence. When someone is in the presence of violence of an animal or another person, it can affect the
Animals that are neglected by their owners roam around the streets and eventually die due to starvation or some kind of disease. Animals are not something that cannot be thrown away so easily, because they have rights as well, and we need to treat them the way they should be treated. Although not all humans treat animals badly, we should still attempt to educate as many people as we can about animal cruelty. Animal cruelty does not only affect animals, it affects humans as well.
The love and friendship that animals can and are willing to give is extremely enriching and can bring so much joy into our lives as well as the whole world; having your dog come give you kisses when you are sad or having your cat lay by your side when you are sick; these actions show just how much they are aware of us and care for us. However, animals of all kinds are abused each and every day; strangled, beaten, made to be in dog fights, not being fed or cared for, these are situations that animals have to deal with on a daily basis. Animals—dogs, cats, horses, tigers, etc.—have been abused by humans for years and it does not seem to cease. Animals can feel the same emotions that humans can; love, fear, pain, loneliness, and many humans inadvertently
Every 60 seconds an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
The abuse that animals endure at human hands is heartbreaking, sickening, and infuriating. Animals are just as delicate as humans, so why not abuse us too? Animal lives should be just important as ours. No animals should be killed or abused for testing, entertaining, clothing, or hoarding. Every year, millions of animals are being killed and torture for testing.
Should the torture of an innocent animal go unpunished? No, it should not; the real question is to what extent should the perpetrator be punished? The most basic definition of animal abuse is the intentional act of inflicting physical pain, suffering, or death on an animal; this includes monstrous neglect (the act of withholding food and water) that causes an animal to suffer, die, or be put in imminent danger of death. Currently, animal cruelty offenders are not punished to the extent that some believe they should be. Animal cruelty should receive mandatory jail time because the abuse towards an innocent animal is deemed inhumane and oftentimes is a precursor to violence against humans.
Animal abuse is a travesty in our world that must be stopped. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of human actions, directly or indirectly. Whether it’s abused dogs and cats or even mistreated circus animals, their suffering is as real as it would be if it happened to us. Even animals who are raised on farms simply for human consumption should not have to suffer. One of the worst parts of humanity’s role in animal abuse is that there are easy ways for people to help that they are either ignorant of or simply refuse to do. There are many examples of animals who are abused by humans, but there are also ways for people to help prevent and put an end to animal abuse.
I will discuss each one in more detail. Many people who abuse animals do not realize that they are actually hurting animals, this is known as unintentional. When some people try to discipline their pets, they use tactics that they think are acceptable, when in reality, this is probably not the best way. People also abuse animals due to lack of attention, such as forgetting to feed and water the animals for a number of days. A family may take the animals with them when they leave the house, and forget to leave a window down with the animal inside.
