Airbnb is a company that was founded in 2008 and has been booking people to stay in apartments, houses or even villas while on vacation or just in need of a place to stay. Their company is about more than just having a nice place to stay while away form home. Airbnb cares about their guests and wants them to feel like they are at home.
They want all visitors to feel like they are able to relax without being judged for who they are or what they are doing. “We accept” adequately encourages people that they are always welcome at a Airbnb no matter their race, religion or sexuality.
Everyday people are afraid to go out into the world because they are scared of being judged just because they are apart of a certain race. In today’s society racism is overlooked, but it is still a major issue in our daily lives. Airbnb has shown in their 2017 commercial that their guests ethnicity doesn’t matter to them. Everyone is equal in their eyes and will not be turned away from the company because of their race and that’s something we can count on.
In the commercial Airbnb tells us that the world is more beautiful the more we accept. With that being said the company wants everyone to feel equal no matter who they worship or what they believe in. Religion is a huge diversity in the world today, but Airbnb wants their visitors to know that it doesn't

Racism, religion differences, and marriage equality have been problems that we have faced as a nation for hundreds of years. In order to become more evolved as a nation the first step is acceptance. Airbnb has portrayed that the companies beliefs will always be that everyone is equal and accepted for the individual that they are. If Airbnb has taught us anything it is that “no matter who you are, where you're from, who you love, or who your worship, we all belong. If we all went by Airbnb’s motto the world would be more beautiful if we all could
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended racial segregation in the USA. Since then, America has begun to learn that, no matter the skin tone, we accept all races and become one united nation. Elijah Anderson analyzes certain areas in the big city of Philadelphia and observes how different races and people act and acknowledge one another in the same environment. He describes certain places called “cosmopolitan canopies” where the display of public acceptance by all of all is intense and is a setting where a mix of people can feel comfortable (3). Anderson does a worthy job of backing up his argument with the different evidence he brings to light throughout his article. Although his argument covers how while we might have these cosmopolitan canopies we still have races that are considered “out of place” and how the black people and men in specifically, are seen in the society. For my class observation, I visited Dilworth Park Ice Rink and my reflection at the rink agreed with Anderson’s argument considering that the rink provided a cosmopolitan environment although his argument is now outdated.
For instance, Brooks himself confesses that he has himself in the past gravitated towards places where he believed he could be most comfortable in and where he also felt he could be his true self. He further states, that the majority of his friends are middle-income level Caucasians and conservative Christians. Brooks’ main argument in the essay is that many individuals in the United States often do not even bother to show that they would like to build diverse communities. The essay, Brook says, is about the public discourse on race and is meant to make us ponder about the stereotypes and assumptions we have when we think about diversity or people from other ethnicities. It is also meant to make us look where we fit in the diversity debate? Are we truly for the integration of
Homelessness in the United States has been an important subject that the government needs to turn its attention to. There has been announced in the news that the number of the homeless people in many major cities in the United States has been increasing enormously. According to United States Interagency Council on Homelessness reported that there was an estimation of 83,170 individuals have experienced chronic homelessness on the streets of the United States’ streets and shelters on only a single night of January 2015, which is a small decrease of only 1% from the previous year (People Experiencing Chronic Homelessness, n.d.). The United States must consider this subject that most of the people underestimate it and not pay attention
Race has been a difficult topic to discuss and grasp ever since race problems began. Not only is it a sensitive topic that carries a lot of baggage to the name, but it is a continuous problem that we still today, after many years, battle with. “The Code Switch Podcast, Episode 1: Can we talk about Whiteness?” is a podcast with many speakers of different colors that discusses white ignorance and white uncertainty of talking about racial issues.
Entering the Courtyard Residence I had some presumptions of what we would experience with the older generations. As a result of my own experiences being part of a family composed of two different ethnic groups (white and Mexican), I have experienced many awkward moments with the older generations on my Father's side of the family who slip with racist remarks. Because of this, I had a hunch that we might encounter these moments at the Courtyard residence as well. That being said, it became an interest of mine to research the different ethnic groups who have migrated to Portland and find out what their perception of this city is. Although we may be called the most liberal and accepting city in the United States, I have often felt that this is not so in terms of being socially accepting as much as environmentally accepting.
The amount of students who are or are in danger of becoming homeless has increase on our country over the years. Although society structured people to attend post-secondary school in order to receive a sustained career, there are some cases where college is simply too expensive. Many homeless students are not receiving a proper education due to these circumstances, which results of them dropping out. Because of this situation, there are different methods to combat students dropping out of college due to financial issues. However, increasing taxes and/or tuition would not benefit the situation without an increase of society’s knowledge and awareness in the topic.
Gentrification is described as the renovation of certain neighborhoods in order to accommodate to young workers and the middle-class. For an area to be considered gentrified, a neighborhood must meet a certain median home value and hold a percentage of adults earning Bachelor’s degree. Philadelphia’s gentrification rate is among the top in the nation; different neighborhoods have pushed for gentrification and have seen immense changes as a result. However, deciding on whether or not gentrification is a beneficial process can become complicated. Various groups of people believe that cities should implementing policy on advancing gentrification, and others believe that this process shouldn’t executed. Both sides are impacted by the decision to progress gentrification; it is unclear of the true implications of completely renovating impoverished urban areas; gentrification surely doesn’t solve all of a community’s issues. I personally believe that gentrification is not necessarily a good or bad process; gentrification should occur as a natural progression of innovative economies and novel lifestyles collide within certain areas. Policy involving gentrification should not support the removal of people out of their neighborhood for the sake of advancement.
In the second article “Why is gender diversity so much easier than to solve than racial diversity”, Micah Singleton (2015) mentioned that most major companies had shown they are lack of gender diversity from the recent statistic. When asked them to change this situation, most of companies including Snapchat, GoPro and Uber were unresponsive and some of companies including Tesla and Netflix even declined. Using a specific example as logos, Singleton (2015) mentioned Airbnb who wants to improve gender diversity in the workplace as a good role to illustrate the approach that the company can make to increase gender diversity.
The comments made about the family were unwarranted and unnecessary. They were just made by people who wanted to be hateful and not celebrate that other were included. The southern area is more known for their traditional ways while, they are not the only states that have racism. Racism will continue to be a problem as long as people do not want to learn about what others go through and their lifestyle. By commercials being more progressive things will slowly change just as the world. Though the ad was pulled off the air it was able to reach so many families but, also make them feel like American is still a melting pot. Accepting people’s differences is what America is prided on so, people should be able to love and be happy with whomever they
Community colleges in California should offer two years of free education to students that are responsible. First, by making community college free for two years, struggling low income families can get a two year education at their local community college. By going to a free college people can save money for two years and transfer out to a better college with the money that they have saved. More student will switch from expensive colleges, and come to a less expensive college and acquire their Associate's degree. Next, some of the students will realize that they are going to graduate from an expensive college, and they are going to leave with a diploma and a huge debt in loans. Some people just need an Associate's Degree to get the job that they want and people can get that in two years. For example to become a police officer, people need an Associate's degree, and be twenty one years of age. Last, the crime in the cities will be reduced if community colleges would offer free education. Most people that are in the streets doing bad things are the ones who dropped out of high school because college was going to be too
We ought to welcome everyone around us irrespective of their background for people to be able to oblige to working on diversity. People need to feel more appreciated and belonging to society if there is need to empower them to change. Making people feel guilty for the state they are in isn’t good when trying to foster diversity.
Homelessness is a subject that has inspired many to write poems, speeches, and even songs. However, there is more depth to homelessness than just a source for inspiration; this is an ongoing problem for many all over the world. The 40th president to the United States, Ronald Reagan, once said that "what we have found in this country, and maybe we're more aware of it now, is one problem that we've had, even in the best of times, and that is the people who are sleeping on the grates, the homeless, you might say, by choice."(Reagan). The president's expression is very powerful even today, implying that even in the best of times homelessness is one of the top issues in society. Notice how President Regan cleverly used the wording "by choice" at the end of the sentence, what did he mean to convey by this? Was he implying that those who are homeless are so by choice? Or that many individuals perceived homelessness to be a choice? Perhaps it was a way to raise awareness of the impending problems that can lead an individual to homelessness. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness and the National Coalition for the Homeless, there are three triggering factors that lead to homelessness, lack of affordable housing, unemployment, and health care ("Why Are People Homeless?"). Therefore, when exploring into more depth the determining reasons, considering the key roles that a home, money, and employment play in an individual’s life will facilitate a better understanding of the downward spiral towards homelessness.
Racism is a repulsive issue that is becoming more and more evident to the people living in America. It is not something that is taken lightly in society today, and it can be extremely offensive to many. Even though everyone reacts differently to it, it is important for all people to make an honest effort to respect others regardless of their racial and ethnic backgrounds. People must change their stereotypical thoughts about others and help decrease or end racism by addressing any issues in which racism is concerned. Results in response to different approaches to confront the situation have occurred, but it still remains very real within our world today. Although some changes have been seen, racism in advertising is still tremendously evident due to very weak, offensive comical attempts, the unawareness of advertisers, and the depiction of society’s ideal person.
There is a long way to go for any tolerance of difference in our society, whether it be race, gender, or orientation. However with the growing amount of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) community, there really isn’t any other option but to accept that people are innately just different. This is a good think if we can come to accept the differences in each other we can see different viewpoints to our social problems and evolve as a
