If you don’t like your job and feel dissatisfied with your work life for no obvious reasons like poor working conditions, odd timings, bad relationships with boss or colleagues, low pay or poor fringe benefits. Don’t worry, because you are not alone! In today’s workplace, many people feel the same way about their work life as you do. And the top-notch underlying reason for this distress is work related value conflict, and this value conflict consequently results in the lack of purpose, meaning and passion in our work. But when we start going through our daily life without reflecting on what is truly important to us; we neglect our inner values. When we don’t listen to our inner self, neglect what we actually like to do, and go for the decisions that we find safe and in congruence with what others expect us to do, we experience inner contradictions, the value conflict. Value conflict is a tussle between doing what you think you “ought” to do and being your real self. But the irony is that mostly we are not even consciously aware of our inner conflicts. We keep going through our life following the same routine and never bother to stop to linger on what we are doing and why we are doing it. We set and attain goals without paying attention to our heart’s deepest desire, our inner values. We ignore the fact that our own personal values are the leading principles that guide us as we move through our life. We don’t realize that constant ignorance and suppression of inner values gradually detach us from our authentic selves. Sticking to your values keeps you motivated especially during challenging situation and projects that need hard work and more effort.
