Philosophy of Social Justice
Social justice is a term that means distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within society of racial. For example the name of my school is called Social Justice but there is really no social justice here.Students of a particular color hang with the same color. Latinos hang with latinos because of the individual racial status. Many latinos here are very racist towards the color kids. There is no justice because we students have no voice according to the teachers and our principal. My definition of social justice has changed over the 4 years I’ve been here at this school. We have faced many obstacles from the Hunger strike to strikes for our rights here

Social stigma is a big problem during teen pregnancy. Many teens are afraid of what their parents might say or do while the others worry what their peers might have to say. This can be very stressful and scary for teen moms because they may think others may not understand their situation. In my eyes, social justice is an action of equality for everyone regardless of their color, ethnic ground, or gender. Since we all breath, we should have the same economical rights, political rights, social rights and the same amount of opportunities. Everyone should have economical rights because if one works hard for something they should be able to be rewarded with a good return. Everyone should also have political rights because it gives the nation as an entirety the right to a make decision rather than just to certain people. Social rights are also something everyone should have because it allows everyone to get an education, house, right to health, and other important things. Everyone having the same amount of opportunities is also what social justice should be because no one should be considered better than another person unless they really know the person. Therefore, knowing what social justice is can help us better understand what Shakur is trying to teach us about social
Furthermore, there are major health issues surrounding teenage pregnancy. For one, teen mothers are two to six times more likely to have low birth-weight babies, compared to mothers above twenty years of age. This is because teen mothers are often still growing themselves, and physically cannot let the baby grow and develop. Such low birth-weights lead to higher risks of new-born health problems, undevelo...
Childbirth is biological, psychological, and natural activities by which the human species grow into its family cycle and childbirth also have a sexual tradition. Beyond the emotions and the various phases that it creates, childbirth has specific criteria to be met on both man and woman. Their union must be founded on the reciprocal love, the biological and psychological maturation, and a developed sense of responsibility. Because of this, a pregnancy occurred early in life is becoming a situation full of social, economical and psychological difficulties. The birth’s pain is weighted quickly on the young and premature couple. In the United States, teen’s pregnancies from ages 15 -19 remain one of the highest situations in the modern world. It has had little chance of success because many teens are still becoming parents and this problem is constantly increasing in the Latino/ Hispanic community. Immigration, peer pressures, dropout rate, cultural difference, and economic disadvantages are main reasons behind the majority teen’s pregnancies in this community. After I explain why it’s important to reduce teen’s pregnancy rates, I will suggest some challenging yet feasible solutions to break the cycle of unplanned pregnancies.
My definition of social justice in the field of education is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child and the British-Colombia School Act that state that every child has a right to a proper education (UNICEF, n.d.; School Act, RSBC 1996, c. 412). A proper education to me is based on opportunity. I believe that in order to have a proper education, children should all be entitled to equal opportunity in their learning process. Children should have equal opportunity to obtain the supports that will assist them in achieving their potential.
From my understanding, social justice means that every human being should have equal access to resources and opportunities to be able to reach their full potential. It is the idea that every person should be equally treated and supported regardless of their background, race, culture, gender, or sex. It is the notion that no one should be underserved or underrepresented. Encompassed within social justice is economic justice, which contends that everyone deserves a decent relative standard living to be able to sustain themselves. It means eliminating barriers to employment and ensuring a living wage and income that is fair so that everyone has an opportunity to pursue their dreams. Thus, social and economic justice means that society has an obligation
Teen pregnancy is one of the many recurring themes that continue to be a problem in the African American community. This project will document the reasons why African Americans become teen parents, I will get to the root of why African Americans are teen parents. This is a problem in the African American community because we are perceived to be a race that has a variety of negative stereotypes behind it. These stereotypes sometimes stem from things that actually happen in the community such as teen pregnancy, as well as people’s perception of African Americans. Society is affected by teen pregnancy in the black community by there not being more African Americans furthering their education through college and in some cases through high school due to responsibilities that comes with raising a child, as well as the children of teen parents having behavioral issues and social disabilities. Children of teen parents are likely to have children as teens (Healthy Teen Network, 2006). According to the National Conference of State Legislatures (2014) only 40 percent of teen mothers finish high school, and fewer than 2 percent actually finish college by age 30.
Institutions that affect our social justice views can include religions, schools, our government, social networking and media. Our own identity of ourselves is highly impacted by the restrictions and judgments that come along with these institutions. Whether you believe in it or not, you are impacted directly by the views from these institutions. The views of these institutions can be a determining factor in your decisions, because if you decide the rebel against these views you can look like an outsider. Social justice defines what should be done in order the live the perfect American Dream, be socially acceptable, fulfill life to the fullest and be an active member of society.
Ever heard of teen pregnancy? Well guess what its an actual thing. Teen Pregnancy can happen to anyone no matter who you are. Some of us may have heard of the horror story like the 2008 Gloucester High School pregnancy pact, where 17 girls agreed to get pregnant together. Yeah, I know thats a real scare right. You have to think about why would girls agree to get pregnant? It seems ridicoulous to want to just throw away your teenage years on purpose. This could have happened because they weren’t educated enough about the issues of teen pregnancy. That is why we have to give out information about this. We need to bring awareness to teenagers about teen pregnancy before its too late.
In America, one million teenagers get pregnant every year (National Abortion Federation, 2003). Of these pregnancies, 78% are unplanned because these teenagers start having sex at a very young age and are unaware of ways to prevent pregnancies. Thirty-five percent of the pregnant teenagers chose to abort, as they fear that the consequences of the pregnancy might have significant effects on their lives. The problems that come with teenage pregnancies include dropping out of school, receiving inadequate prenatal care, developing health problems, relying on public assistance to raise a child, and probably divorcing their partners. In most states, the law allows pregnant teenagers to take their babies for adoption without consulting their parents.
Social justice. A term used very commonly in some parts of the world, and a term some ears have never heard. So what is it anyway? Simply defined, social justice is the ability people have to realize their potential in the society where they live. However, it depends who you ask. According to Matthew Robinson, social justice is defined as "... promoting a just society by challenging injustice and valuing diversity.” It exists when, and only when all people share a common humanity and therefore have a right to equal treatment, human rights support, and a fair allocation of community resources. Under the conditions of social justice, people should not be discriminated against, and their welfare and well-being should not be constrained or prejudiced on the basis of gender, sexuality, religion, age, race, belief, disability socioeconomic circumstances, or other characteristic of background or group membership (Toowoomba Cathloc Education, 2006). For the most part, social justice is equated with the notion of equality or equal opportunity in society.
Sally just found out she is pregnant. She is scared and alone. Sally's family has rejected her and she has no way to provide for the child she is bearing. Is this the proper way to treat a teen that is pregnant? The answer is no, we should not stop the financial and emotional support of pregnant teens but in the same sense we should not increase the financial support. Who is to say that the baby should suffer from the choices the mother made? It is important that throughout the pregnancy a teen has an adult to look up to and ask for help. This will insure the mothers health and reduce stresses during pregnancy and the babies health during and after pregnancy.
Teen pregnancy is a major issue in society today. In 2010, an estimated 614,400 U.S. teenagers became pregnant, approximately 89,300 had miscarriages, and 157,500 had legal abortions. Teens are having unprotected sex without knowing the consequences of the choices that the are making. Teens believe that sex is something new that they can try, so they can be popular like their peers. These accusations are wrong, having unprotected sex has major consequences, and by having unprotected sex these teens could be changing their lives forever. Who is to fault for these teen pregnancies? Is in the parents fault, the teens fault or is it our communities fault all together? I believe providing more information and awareness about teen pregnancy in our schools and community will reduce the number of teen pregnancies.
In society today, teens are taught by the television and the media that pre-marital sex is not a bad thing. This problem is leading to many teenage pregnancies, that then lead to abortion. All over the world teens are faced with many challenges in their everyday lives. Sex is being portrayed as extremely appealing in the media, but what they don't show is the pregnancies and the unborn child that never asked to be created in the first place that is being discarded. Abortion is in no way acceptable, it is murder of an unborn child.
Are you a teenager and pregnant? If you’re not then you’re saved right? Wrong! Teen pregnancy affects society as a whole, this social issue has a domino effect on everyone. People of all ages, race and social class are affected by this issue. Teenage pregnancy greatly effects teens emotionally, socially and financially. However, many people think the effects of teen pregnancy are only experienced directly by the teens that have a child at a young age. What society might not be aware of is that teen pregnancy is a bigger issues than just kids having kids of their own. This issue occurring in our society effects taxpayer’s tremendously. Not only does teen pregnancy effect society financially, but also it creates Intergenerational issues.
The concept of comprehensive social intervention has been defined as the process of identifying social problems in an attempt to eradicate them. In looking at the broad range of social characteristics and the behavior associated with teen pregnancy, it is obvious that the emphases placed on the effort to recognize and alleviate teen pregnancy can be celebrated through the effectiveness of education, family planning, and abstinence. However, the attempt to analyze and deal with the cause-and-effect relationship with teen pregnancy is an attempt in understanding the social world itself. In 2006, statistics show that there was a significant increase in teen pregnancy after a decade long decrease. The potential for understanding this increase motivates us to look beyond simple explanations for cause-and-effect behavior and to look at what interactions may be occurring between variables that result in specific behaviors or social conditions. What is it that influences behavior? In looking at teen pregnancy in the realm of the family, it is evident that a large number of family structures have evolved, or perhaps devolved, into a variety of combinations which challenge responsible parents to consistently expose their children to the role models and the types of behaviors that are important for their children to emulate as they mature. People are molded by circumstances and experiences, all of which can positively or negatively influence our behavior.
