Philosophy of inclusion before the service activities Inclusion occurs when “children with disabilities are educated with children who are not disabled.” This means that children with disabilities are able to participate inside and outside of the classroom in all academic and nonacademic programs and activities with nondisabled children. My position on inclusion is positive, and I fully support the practice. I believe that regardless of who you are you should be given equal opportunities. I also think that nondisabled children can learn from children with disabilities, and vice versa. It is important to implement inclusion because all children deserve fair treatment and they can all learn something from the experience. Personal expectations before attending each activity Activity 1. Before attending Among Friends, I did not know what to expect. I knew of the center, but only because other classmates have attended their facility to complete their own volunteer hours. I figured I would go to Among Friends, play some games or maybe make some crafts, and be on my way. I have never been in setting before like the one at Among Friends, so my expectations were open. At Among Friends, there were few adults that required a needed accommodation. For example, a wheelchair was used by many of them. In particular, one adult used a reasonable accommodation. She used a chair that was taller than the other chairs, so she could be higher at the table. The center implements people first language by always putting the adults before the disability. They recognize that having a disability is not what solely defines a person with a disability. Zero Reject means that you cannot deny education to anything, and I correspond this to the attitudes at Among Friends. They have open arms to all of their guests and do not deny anyone from attending their
