As a woman, I am sick and tired of being responsible for not getting raped. Every single woman in the world has to change their behaviour on a daily basis to minimize their chances of sexual assault. “don't walk alone at night” “don't go down alleyways on your own because you can get raped”. “You’re not allowed to go out tonight unless you have a boy with you because otherwise you will get raped” “you have to be home before dark otherwise you might get raped”. “Here's some nail polish to help you identify date rape drugs”. Being a girl in the world we live in is so crazy. Do you know much much we miss out on because we are scared? How much of the night don't we get to see because of the threat of sexual assault as a woman is more dangerous than playing Russian roulette? …show more content…

I'm fourteen years old and I have been the victim of these demeaning sexist and frankly terrifying comments way too often. Countless times I have been ridiculed and criticised in public for what I'm wearing or how ‘mature’ I look, whether it’s by people I know or strangers on the street. It has been over ingrained in my head that if a man comes up to me in the streets I have to repeat the sayings over and over again in my mind ‘use your elbows’ ‘hold your keys between your fingers’ what keys I'm fourteen? ‘If they try and touch you-you aim for their groin, neck, and eyes’. When I was 12 I had to take part in the girls-only self-defence class, where we learnt what to do if we were sexually attacked. I was twelve years old and had to be physically and mentally prepared for a grown man to take advantage of me, while 12-year-old boys can literally get away with anything under the sun just because girls apparently 'mature faster than boys'. I am currently fourteen and prepared to tell you that that is one hundred percent fake
