The rising sun slowly pours its light into the cabin. The smell of pine trees and the mixture of wood and dirt surrounds me as I slowly start to wake up. I grab all my bathroom supplies and slip on my flip-flops and slowly open the door to head to the bathroom. The door makes an awful creaking sound that seems so loud compared to the quiet chirping birds around me as I step outside. I look behind me to see if any of the campers had woken up to the screeching door. Luckily, none of them seem to have been disturbed. I start making the trek to the bathrooms that are a football field lengths away. It takes me about 10 minutes to walk all the way there as I had to walk across the river that runs along the back of the cabins and up the tall hill that seems …show more content…
I groan knowing that I have to start waking the kids up so they can start their day. Today the kids are doing all of their swim test so all the counselors have the day to themselves. After all the kids are awake, feed and alert, Jessica, the other counselor in my cabin, and I lead them to the lake on the other side of camp. We run into Jordan on our way to the lake and our campers start mingling. Jordan, Jessica and I start talking about the nightly bonfire and the stories were going to tell the campers tonight. Once we get to the lake, the three of us say bye to the campers and head back to the mess hall to grab a snack. “I’m so bored, anybody have any ideas on what to do?” asks Jessica in between sighs. “We could explore the abandoned shack in the woods behind the cabins!” suggests Jordan as he walks over to the table Jessica and I were sitting at. I personally love adventures so I instantly agree. Jessica agrees after a lot of persuasion and a promise of letting her skip the campfire tomorrow night so that she can catch up on her beauty sleep. We throw away our wrappers and head over to the
“As it is, we have the wolf by the ear, and we can neither hold him, nor safely let him go. Justice is on one scale, and self-preservation in the other.” This quote said by Thomas Jefferson accurately depicted the political, economic, and social issues that were presented in the 1800s. The novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin written by Harriet Beecher Stowe created a massive awareness politically and socially for the abolitionist movement. Throughout Uncle Tom’s Cabin Stowe paints the picture of the cruel and unjust treatment of slaves on large plantations in the 1850s. Although Uncle Tom’s Cabin shows that large scale plantations showed empathy towards their slaves after the 1830s; however, Uncle Tom’s Cabin accurately depicts the lives of slaves after
I thought we were close to getting out but them I climbed up a tree and saw that I was wrong. We need to go north. I saw a little rustic old cabin up that way. And that was the closest point of exit. Which at that point was the best way to go. But up north the forest look even thicker which was not good. There was fruit and meat that would be a good kill so we could eat. So off we went. The only way now to tell days was the sun but even at some points we couldn 't see it.
Mightier than the Sword: Uncle Tom’s Cabin and the Battle for America is written by David S. Reynolds. Reynolds is a Distinguished Professor of English and American Studies at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. In this book, the author analyzes and discusses the effect of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” in society. American history has been influenced through different works. However, as Reynolds claims, Uncle Tom’s Cabin helped shape the world’s public opinion about slavery and religion in more than one way. Therefore, no book could have more powerfully molded American history than Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
Uncle Tom's Cabin is one of the most famous and popular pieces of Civil War literature. It was drawn from selected pieces of a real life memoir done by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book that drew many people into the fight over the institution of slavery. Northerners hailed the book saying it exposed the truth, while southern slaveholders and plantation owners claimed that it had many falsehoods in it. President Lincoln, when he met Stowe called her, "the little lady who started this big war."
A couple hours later we made it to the park. We started looking for a spot to set up are camp. We found a good spot right in the middle of everything so we started unloading and setting up are camp. After we got done we decided to walk around and see what was near us. I found a little trail that we decided to go on we had about 30 minutes of day light left. The trail went to a little mountain top that had a pretty cool view. We headed back to the camp and we were deciding were we should go tomorrow. We decided to go to Cades Cove and check out that because its a
The American Civil war was a war between the North and South of the United States over issues that had divided the nation for many years. The fighting broke out in April of 1861, and the war ended in May of 1865 (HistoryNet.com). However, the North and South had been disagreeing for many years before. Uncle Tom’s Cabin, a book written in the years leading up to the Civil War showed a new perspective on slavery to many Northern citizens (Encyclopaedia Britannica). The Kansas-Nebraska Act was one of the events that pushed the two sides over the edge into war. The Fugitive Slave Act also strengthened the divide between the Northern and Southern states. But, the attack on Fort Sumter, was first time the Confederate (Southern) and Union (Northern)
The title Uncle Tom’s Cabin is significant because it inspires hope in the people and the readers. Slavery was a huge thing in the 1800’s, and the story takes place in the Southern parts of America where the slave problem was the worst. Uncle Tom was a person that the Shelby’s plantation looked up to because he had such great faith in God that never dwindled, wanted the best for everyone, and he wasn’t afraid to risk his life to make someone else's better. First, when Tom had to deal with the fact that his Master St. Clare died and he would have to go to Legree’s plantation, after already moving from Mr. Shelby’s, he accepted his fate. Since he was raised as a Christian,Tom continued to put a lot of faith in God, mainly during the years he

Tyler suggested, "Let's take a hike." We all agreed to that, because it sounded fun.
I arrived at the guest ranch that we would be staying at around the same time as everyone else. It was later in the evening so the first item on our agenda was to eat supper. After we ate, the seventeen of us students and the six counselors all had a short chapel meeting. Following the meeting, we all played a game of capture the flag out in the trees by the ranch and then hit the sack.
The novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin was written in 1852 and became a very popular and controversial piece of literature. Later it was adapted into a play due to its widespread controversy during a time when slavery was accepted in America’s history. The novel and play sought to display the horrors of slavery. The play has a wide range of characters, representing a wide spectrum of people during that time period. This is able to demonstrate the humanness of the slaves which challenges the entire argument of slavery being that one race of human is better than another based on the color of their skin because in reality, they’re all human regardless. It also demonstrates the inhumanity of some of the slave owners and the compassion of other slave owners who treated their slaves well. This presented the question of how good can someone really be if they own slaves in the first place?
As I walk even farther down the winding trail, I can see the cabin in the distance. It appears as if the sun is only shining on the cabin itself. As I get closer, I get the redolence of home made apple pie. This is the exact moment that I forgot about everything else that existed and began to wonder, “Am I still on Earth?”
We all grabbed our lawn chairs and cozied up next to the roaring red fire. I always sat a little too close, enough to where the fire burnt a hole straight through my favorite pair of flip-flops, assuring me to never make that mistake again. S’mores was all of our favorite bed time snack time and a perfect way to end the night. Every time I would roast my marshmallow until it became slightly brown, mushy, and not too hot in the center; then I 'd put it between two graham crackers and extra pieces of chocolate. One too many s’mores and a belly like later I laid back in my chair and listened as Nancy told us stories. Before going to bed Nancy told us about her favorite past times here as a child and how just like the little girl we saw fishing, she was also afraid of fishing. She told us stories about how much the campground has evolved since she was a child and how every year she promises to take us here and to keep it a tradition. At bedtime Alicia and I crawl into our tents and snuggle up in our warm sleeping bags. We talked to each other about how sad we felt that it was almost the end of summer, and how nervous we felt to start our freshman year of high school. However, our conversations ended when Nancy yelled at as from the other tent to keep quiet and go to bed. I’d fallen asleep that night to the sound of the fire crackling out and the crickets chirping
I start gathering up the magazines I think I will need and leaving the extras behind, maybe someone else may come along and need them as well. I even leave a few seed packs. You never know who may come and stop by. I do share my food with Kujo after all and he seems to like me. I never did check out that other door into Elroy's, maybe one day I will. For now I start my way home with a backpack full of hope and one empty belly and a new furry friend.
