After my school production of "Twelfth Night", nothing was the same. I gained a whole new way of thinking, a whole new purpose in my life, and had finally realized that acting was the thing I needed to pursue. All throughout my experiences in high school, I struggled to find my purpose, however, this one play, this one spectacular comedy by William Shakespeare, awakened me in a way that nothing ever had. It was as if a spark in my head finally struck and originated the fire I was seeking, giving me the passion and inspiration that I needed, this of which I could only access a portion of throughout any other performance. "Twelfth Night, or What You Will", was the fall production of my high school's theatre group: The Masque and Mime Society. Having been elected secretary my senior year I was highly involved with the group itself, and that made me …show more content…
The rehearsal process was an astounding experience for me, kindling the realization of my purpose towards acting, as well as strongly assuring that feeling within my brain. During rehearsals, I went through a great deal of stage work and began to realize that nothing that I had ever done was as exciting or enjoyable as this. In my opinion, I feel as though this hadn't had as much as an influence on me in any of my past productions was because in my past productions I had minor roles, thus giving me less time to experience what it was like to be part of the production process. However, Sir Toby Belch has a major presence within "Twelfth Night", giving me the opportunity to explore the production process in more depth than I was able to before. This allowed an ignition in my mind to take place and inspiration and impudence to become much stronger within me. It was these feelings of passion that allowed me to truly enjoy each performance more than the last, despite the rescheduling one of our
Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is a comedy that has been interpreted in different ways, enabling one to receive multiple experiences of the same story. Due to the content and themes of the play, it can be creatively challenging to producers and their casting strategies. Instead of being a hindrance, I find the ability for one to experiment exciting as people try to discover strategies that best represent entertainment for the audience, as well as the best ways to interpret Shakespeare’s work.
when he gets bored of it then he tells him to stop, just like that.
All my life I have always wanted to feel that I was a part of something. However, I was not about to get up on the stage and make a fool of myself on stage. Therefore I joined stage crew for our fall play ¨The Odd Couple" during my sophomore year. This was a huge step for me, since I had never really been involved in something after school. Now, I secretly love everything about theatre and it is one of my true passions, but you will never find me reciting lines. Being able to work behind the scenes in theatre is one of my major interests
After Olivia has her very first conversation with Cesario (Viola), where he tries to woo her for Duke Orsino, she immediately falls in love with him. After Cesario leaves her palace, Olivia says to herself ‘Thy tongue, thy face, thy limbs, actions and spirit do give thee fivefold blazon. Not too fast; soft, soft. Unless the master were the man. How now? Even so quickly may one catch the plague?’ Here Olivia states that Cesario’s external features are what attract her to him. Her metaphor contains a s...
Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night revolves around a love triangle that continually makes twists and turns like a rollercoaster, throwing emotions here and there. The characters love each another, but the common love is absent throughout the play. Then, another character enters the scene and not only confuses everyone, bringing with him chaos that presents many different themes throughout the play. Along, with the emotional turmoil, each character has their own issues and difficulties that they must take care of, but that also affect other characters at same time. Richard Henze refers to the play as a “vindication of romance, a depreciation of romance…a ‘subtle portrayal of the psychology of love,’ a play about ‘unrequital in love’…a moral comedy about the surfeiting of the appetite…” (Henze 4) On the other hand, L. G. Salingar questions all of the remarks about Twelfth Night, asking if the remarks about the play are actually true. Shakespeare touches on the theme of love, but emphases the pain and suffering it causes a person, showing a dark and dismal side to a usually happy thought.
Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is a play with themes that parallel the folly of the festival it is named after. The main storyline of the plot plays on this a lot by mixing up the stereotypes around gender that were very present at the time. However, a sub-plot involving secondary characters defines this theme even more. It takes the idea even further by relating servants’ attempts to blur the lines between social classes. Twelfth Night’s Maria and Malvolio both have great aspirations to rise above their social class. However, Maria succeeds where Malvolio fails because of her capability to make use of the satiric ambiance of her mistress’s household to achieve her goals.
One of the most significant aspects of Station Eleven is the notion that audiences have a great desire to watch William Shakespeare’s plays. Importantly, Station Eleven centers on a group of traveling actors who perform plays at the audience’s requests. The most compelling feature the audiences want in the play is excellence. Understanding why the audiences call for Shakespeare in order to deliver excellence is vital. Examining and analyzing one of William Shakespeare's plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, will reveal the reasons why Shakespeare’s work is considered highly skilled and excellent.
Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare The idea of courtly love based in Shakespeare's 'Twelfth night' involved a woman being put on a pedestal and worshipped from a distance like she was goddess who could not be attained. Only by very long devotion and lots of trials could a man get this kind of woman. The woman quite often appeared to be both cruel and fair. Courtly love was a sexless kind of love and was more idealised.
Theatre has always been a topic of interest in my life. I would watch movies and be more intrigued by character choices, make-up, costumes, and background instead of the actual movie itself. I would find myself thinking of things I would have done different in a film, especially films that were based off of books. So, in the 5th grade, at Handley Elementary, I made the decision to enter SASA middle school in the Theatre concentration. I really liked Theatre, but I eventually grew tired of being on stage. I enjoyed things like critiquing monologue pieces, building sets, being part of the stage crew, and analyzing scripts more than actually performing. In the 10th grade, I was assigned to be the assistant director of a play entitled “The Rope Swing”, which was part of the fall production at SASA in 2012. Since then, I have assistant directed three shows and I’ve fallen in love with directing.
In Shakespeare’s play, Twelfth Night or What you Will, the characters are involved in a plot complete with trickery, disguise, and love. Each character is defined not by his or her gender or true identity, but by the role they are forced to take because of the complicated situation that arises. Unlike their gender, the speech the characters give an insight to their true personalities. In the Twelfth Night, the character Duke Orsino uses flowery and over-dramatic language, long poetic sentence structure, and melodramatic metaphors to display his overemotional romantic nature despite the different emotions in his various speeches.
In the romantic comedy Twelfth Night or What You Will by playwright William Shakespeare, he has written love as a chaotic mess, as he has most plays. Orsino who loves Olivia (she does not love him back) is the love interest of Viola, who dresses as a Eunuch (Cesario) so she can woo Olivia for Count Orsino. Oliva falls in love with Cesario, who looks like Sebastian (Violas Shipwrecked Brother, who is thought to be dead) shows up unaware of anything that’s happing. Sebastian marries Olivia, she thinks Sebastian is Cesario.
Love in The Twelfth Night The comedy play “The Twelfth Night”, written by William Shakespeare, dramatically narrated an ironic love story. In the play, love is the everlasting theme throughout all the events. Every character in the play experienced love either directly or indirectly. For example, Orsino falls in love with Olivia, while Viola falls in love with Orsino, and most interestingly, Olivia falls in love with Cesario, who is disguised by Viola.
In Twelfth night a play by William Shakespeare, Viola disguises herself as a man because she wants to be able to continue and play college soccer. Many characters put on a false front image for personal gain in this book. In today’s society, people decide whether or not they want to bring up false portrayal’s or act like themselves when theirs a current decision needing to be made. This is qualifying because a few people today do lie and put up false fronts for personal gain. But on the other hand, some people do not.
Actors are more than just people who portray dramatic characters on a movie screen, stage, and television. Professional actors tend to make more money than most other careers. Actors bring joy to the people who watch them perform, and take them out of the real world and into the creative world of visual communication. Performers can show more than just joy, they can also bring happiness, sorrow, fear and even comedy. Acting can be a very versatile profession. It is way for many people to refine themselves. Performing is not only about getting into a role but understanding the extent of one’s imagination. There is a lot of preparing that goes into a performance than just reading a few lines. Acting is a paradigm. Acting is very different now compared to when it first started. In todays world acting is a fast growing career and well respected. but over 200 years ago it was not that way.
“Great theatre is about challenging how we think and encouraging us to fantasize about a world we aspire to” (Willem Dafoe). I joined theatre freshman year of high school. None of my close friends were in theatre, this was something I decided to do all on my own. At the time I was a cheerleader, so my focus was not 100% on theatre. I was on Hair Crew and missed all of my work days because of cheer. I showed up to dry tech, not knowing what to expect. In that 12 hour day, I worked harder than I have ever worked, I made relationships with people I had never even seen before, and I realized this was the place for me. Because of an injury, I was unable to continue my cheerleading career after football season. Now that I look back on my injury, I know God had a plan for me. I put all of my time into theatre from then on out. By the end of freshman year, I had made a countless amount of new friends and take on my first leadership role as assistant designer of men’s hair and makeup. At this time I also realized there is no feeling comparable to the feeling of standing at the foot of a stage after a successful performance bowing to the sound of the audience’s praise. I have
