Witch Trials First let me introduce myself. I am the son of Mary Ann; she is a great mother, but when I go to bed she is just starting her day. She tells me not to worry and that everything will be okay. My mom was a doctor; she could heal you even if a miracle was needed. Everyone knew that she could do it. She was a nut when it came to that stuff. What my mom doesn't know is that I know she is a witch. It all started with my aunt, Betty Parris and my niece Abigail Williams (Author #). They told on my mother on a chilly spring night in Massachusetts in 1692 (Author #). They found her in the woods talking to the spirits. But all this time, I thought she was at work. She had lied to me! (Author) There were three women who were the start of all this (Author #). A black lady whose name was Shain; my mom, mary ann; and this old lady named Shary who lived on the streets. Life has been crazy lately; I have been seeing these women more and …show more content…
As time went on we were soon all alone it was just us. The people fome town called us a cult, sinners and nasty words made us feel like dog shit. “Tonight will be different we will show them” my mom whispers this into my ear as i sleep i awake to towns men taking the people from my house. The beating you could hear it the people's screams were just horrifying. I jump to my feet then i blacked out this thing this demon inside of me took over. I come to and see the most horrifying thing ever. My mom laying in front of me with a big hole in her chest i hear a faint whisper she said “Billy i made you what you are to protect you from this word I love you”. I remember feeling is ball of fire in my throat then this feeling of hatred overwhelm my body as i pick her up i feel what feels like a tier fall down my face. I whip it away but i just smeared down my cheek it not a tier i put my mom in her bed and look down i'm covered in
The Salem Witch Trials occurred from 1692 to 1693. When two girls, aged 9 and 11, started having strange and peculiar fits, the Puritans believed that the cause of these actions was the work of the devil. The children accused three women of afflicting them: Tituba, Sarah Good, and Sarah Osborne. Tituba was a Caribbean slave owned by the Parris family. Sarah Good was a homeless woman. Sarah Osborne was a poor elderly woman. Sarah Osborne and Sarah Good pleaded innocent. Tituba admitted, “The Devil came to me and bid me serve him.” She described seeing red cats, yellow birds, black dogs, and a black man who asked her to sign his “book”. She confessed to signing the book. All three wo...
The bewitchment at Salem Village started in the winter of 1691-1692, where three bored little girls was curiously searching for their future husbands by taking the white of an egg and putting it into a glass of water. They did this in hopes to see their visions. The daughter of the reverend Parris in the village was one of the little girls, and soon after the session, Betty Parris started experiencing knif...
More than two hundred years have gone by since the discovery of the new world. People of with all types of backgrounds and problems came flocking over the ocean to start anew. Jamestown, Virginia and Salem, Massachusetts, were very early settlements, and perhaps two of the most known names of colonies. Jamestown was known for many things, including Bacon’s Rebellion. And Salem was known for one reason, the Salem Witch Trials. These two pieces of history reflect the tensions of the unstable society and of their beliefs.
On January 20th, 1692, a nine-year-old girl, Elizabeth “Betty” Parris, and an eleven-year-old cousin, Abigail Williams, decided to play a game of magic out of boredom. Abigail Williams, niece of the village reverend, was always envious of her cousin “Betty,” and decided to take the game of illusion to the extreme. The mysterious Ouija board, given to her by an indian slave by the name of Tituba, was removed from a secret hiding place, and she began to pretend to call on the Spirit of Death. Suddenly, Abigail and her cousin began to exhibit sudden, strange behaviors. Abigail and “Betty” screamed blasphemous statements, had horrific convulsions, went into motionless catatonic states, and murmured strange conjurations, and, like clockwork, spread the craze of the game to other children in the village. The Salem children began to evoke the same cryptic behaviors in the puritan village. The game of two girls, due to personal resentments and
I had been in the village for all but a week when I realized there was something... wrong. There seemed to be an underlying atmosphere of fear and animosity. Of course, with my wide-eyed, innocent thinking at the time, I assumed the presence of Satan had damaged the townspeople 's trust of one another. Again, I blissfully accepted this, and I was wrong.
During the time of the Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692, more than twenty people died an innocent death. All of those innocent people were accused of one thing, witchcraft. During 1692, in the small town of Salem, Massachusetts many terrible events happened. A group of Puritans lived in Salem during this time. They had come from England, where they were prosecuted because of their religious beliefs. They chose to come live in America and choose their own way to live. They were very strict people, who did not like to act different from others. They were also very simple people who devoted most of their lives to God. Men hunted for food and were ministers. Women worked at home doing chores like sewing, cooking, cleaning, and making clothes. The Puritans were also very superstitious. They believed that the devil would cause people to do bad things on earth by using the people who worshiped him. Witches sent out their specters and harmed others. Puritans believed by putting heavy chains on a witch, that it would hold down their specter. Puritans also believed that by hanging a witch, all the people the witch cast a spell on would be healed. Hysteria took over the town and caused them to believe that their neighbors were practicing witchcraft. If there was a wind storm and a fence was knocked down, people believed that their neighbors used witchcraft to do it. Everyone from ordinary people to the governor’s wife was accused of witchcraft. Even a pregnant woman and the most perfect puritan woman were accused. No one in the small town was safe. As one can see, the chaotic Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692 were caused by superstition, the strict puritan lifestyle, religious beliefs, and hysteria.
In the modern day it’s hard to believe there’s even still ‘’witch hunts’’ as you can say where a group of people are stereotyped as something without them doing the actual stereotypical thing. We live in a world where blacks are getting shot for no reason when they were just walking down the street unarmed and not harming anyone. Blacks and Latinos are always looked down upon in any shape or form. They could be driving a nice car they get pulled over for suspicion of a stolen car, they can get pulled over in an old broken car and they will get pulled over for suspicion of ‘’criminal activity’’. But if it’s a white person the cops will NOT bat a single eye at them despite being in the same situations as the black. And you know what the problem
In the early winter months of 1692, in colonial Massachusetts, two young girls began exhibiting strange symptoms that were described to be "beyond the power of Epileptic Fits or natural disease to effect (examiner.com)." Doctors looked them over, but could not come up with any sort of logical explanation for their ailments. Therefore, the girls were accused of taking part in witchcraft. Soon, other young women in the village started showing similar symptoms. This "illness" of sort slowly made its way through the village to many of the residents. Soon, people started coming up with possible theories as to what started all the madness.
I fear that this will be the last time you will ever hear from me. In fact, by the time you get this, I will probably be dead. You see, I live in Topsfield , but in the nearby town of Salem, the Salem Witchcraft Trials are going on. The Salem Witchcraft Trials are a series of trials of accused witches. Some people have already been hanged and I have recently been accused of witchcraft. You see, on March 21st, 1692, I was accused of putting young girls under spells by Ann Putnam Sr. and Abigail Williams. I was also accused by many other young girls, and even some older, married, seemingly sensible women. I believe that Ann accused me of this ridiculous crime because of the land dispute in our town. For over fifty years, the Nurse's and the Putnam's have been fighting over one piece of land. My father and Ann's father started this feud in 1639 and this is Ann's way of ending it. Also, us Nurse's are resented because we keep mostly to ourselves. Throughout the whole witchcraft accusations, our family has been staying away from the "bewitched" girls. The townspeople thought this was rude and that it proved my guilt. As you know, my dear mother was accused of witchcraft many a year ago, and two of my sister's have been accused before as well. The people in this town seem to have the notion that this craft is passed down through generations. In addition to this, the Putnam's head the Pro-Parris committee- they think that our minister should stay.
The Salem Witch Trials took place in the summer and into the fall of the year 1692, and during this dark time of American history, over 200 people had been accused of witchcraft and put in jail. Twenty of these accused were executed; nineteen of them were found guilty and were put to death by hanging. One refused to plead guilty, so the villagers tortured him by pressing him with large stones until he died. The Salem Witch Trials was an infamous, scary time period in American history that exhibited the amount of fear people had of the devil and the supernatural; the people of this time period accused, arrested, and executed many innocent people because of this fear, and there are several theories as to why the trials happened (Brooks).
During the early winter of 1692 two young girls became inexplicably ill and started having fits of convulsion, screaming, and hallucinations. Unable to find any medical reason for their condition the village doctor declared that there must be supernatural forces of witchcraft at work. This began an outbreak of hysteria that would result in the arrest of over one hundred-fifty people and execution of twenty women and men. The madness continued for over four months.
There are some events in history that put the human race to shame; however, these occasions can change our future forever. Society cannot deny that social injustices occur almost every day, maybe even more than once. One large blemish in our history, the Salem Witch Trials, alienated a certain group in our society. These trials were an unfortunate combination of economic conditions, a flock’s strife, teenage boredom, and personal jealousies.
The Salem Witchcraft was a series of undesirable events, which was powered by paranoia and fear. Though several witch trials occurred before the Salem Witch Trial, this was the most well known of all. Many innocent people were accused of witchcraft which resulted to 19 men and women that were hanged, 17 innocents that died in unsanitary prisons, and an 80-year old man that was crushed to death by putting stones on top of his stomach until he confesses (movie: The Crucible). In some accounts, it was reported that two dogs were stoned to death for cooperating with the Devil. Why did the Salem Witch trial occur? Were these trials appropriate? Or were they truly a Devil's work? The Salem Witch Trials might have occurred for a variety of reasons such as people's ignorance that led to superstitions. It might have also occurred because people's crave for power, or it might also be because of fear.
No one knew about us because my parents were good witches. They did not hex people and they raised us up right to not be evil. We did have some evil family members that did not like people that were not witches. They were annoyed that we helped them out with our magic and was nice to them. Then an unfortunate thing happened and my parents were murdered. We are not sure how people found out that they were witches, how or why they got murder as well. Sadly, our other family members got a hold of us, but we did get to escape from that horrid place. Indeed, the people who took us were evil witches. They raised us up in a home where we were mean to people. Some of my siblings took to the death of my parents and sought revenge to people who were not witches. However, I was still a good witch inside. I did not like to be mean to other people. I was made to do horrible things to people in order to have a home. People rented us to do hex towards people and I did not like it. My family did not like the fact that I was a softy, so they locked me in a mirror. I was still powerful, but this mirror played tricks on me and whoever had this mirror was in charge of me and usually they were evil as well. Even though I was locked in the mirror, I practice my magic, well good magic. Then This women got me which is your queen in this story. She hated her step-daughter so much that she wanted to make herself younger so she can compete with her. I told her that magic came with a price, but she did not care. She kept summoning me, which was really annoying, but I did get my humor out of it. This lady was horrible looking because of her ugly personality. Jealously made her green. She kept asking me who was the most beautiful one and I cannot lie so I told her, her step-daughter. The most awful thing ever was she wanted to kill her. Sadly, this place that I was at made me help her. I told her what to do and gave her power to do it. Before
Nausea and fear flooded my veins, churning my stomach into a bubbling pot of anxiety. Heat spread across my face surely turning it a bright noticeable shade of red. Thick wads of saliva ran down my throat. Sweat traced its way down the back of my neck. The smells of coffee and sandwiches overwhelmed my senses. My eyes darted around the table from one parent to the next. Bright white light illuminated the street outside the window making the three people around me look like nothing more than black shadows. Dad, who sat across from me, cleared his throat. He studied me with a sense of pride, he looked more like he was glowing, but his gaze shifted to my mom, my real mom, and that look got a little more hostile.
