I do not consider myself to be a proficient golfer at all, in fact, I would most likely be considered more of an amusement than competition if I were to ever enter a serious tournament. However, I find golf to be a very relaxing and enjoyable activity to occupy myself with at times of leisure. This was the case of many cool, peaceful mornings this summer when I would lug my golfing equipment and bag into the hatch of my silver Jeep Laredo and set off for the crisp greens and fairways of a mildewed golf course or driving range. On one particular July morning, I had just finished a chore at my home that I had been preoccupied with for quite some time. The joyfulness of completion of this landscaping job was accompanied by the notion of celebration. …show more content…
For it being such wonderful weather and the middle of the morning not more than five vehicles did I find peering out from my car’s window. The sky was a clear deep blue with only a few wispy clouds gently floating in the warm summer breeze. I then began to unload my belongings and proceed to the clubhouse. As I walked by I saw a modest golfing party at the first tee box beginning their game of the day. The fairway glistened with freshly cut grass from earlier that morning while the robins gently tugged at their catch of the hour along the sides. As if to encourage their fellow fowl, the ceaseless chirps and songs from the gigantic cottonwood trees were hidden from me of their origins. The course seemed as though it was its own private, secluded island yet just a few hundred yards away from the busy traffic of Omaha Street. Even the gentle flowing of Rapid Creek seemed to create an ambiance found on a nature audio track; of course there was always the occasional crack of a well-placed drive from the curvature of a golf …show more content…
I gently swung back my club while still maintaining a firm grip with my hand and keeping my upper body steady. I released my windup into a pendulum motion and a swift knock of the ball sounded. When the club was resting on my left shoulder I raised my head and saw the projectile passing through the humid air with a strong temerity. It finally after what seemed to be ages, appeared to land softly on the green. This extremely surprised me as I had never actually made it to the green on this hole with my first stroke or even my second for that matter before. Feeling quite sure of myself, I marched over towards the green and just in case anyone happened to be watching this excellent display of the game of golf impressively removed my putter from its rack and advanced to discard the flag marker from the hole. In the game of golf, there are roughly four different areas of expertise that are used; the first is the ability to drive, a long range skill to hit the ball from the tee box over the fairway. The second and third are somewhat one in the same; a person’s capability to use an iron club and pitch or chip with such a club are vital to success in the game. Lastly, as some would say the most important talent of the entire game, is being able to put a ball well. This unfortunately hadn’t always been my strong suit and as I came upon the lay of the ball a certain mettle was
Although golfers end the day on the 18th green, their day begins on a tee box. A drive, the first hit off a tee toward the objective hole, may seem very routine and insignificant, but, in fact, it is the most important shot taken on each hole. If golfers hit a long drive into the nicely cut fairway, they have only to hit the ball off the nicely cut grass on usually a clear path to the hole. But if they hit a drive into the woods, then they have to make sure the ball does not hit any trees, branches, or other obstacles when exiting the woods. That’s why hitting a good drive is a must. With practice, even you can hit a fundamental drive.
Most amateur golfers believe that impact on the ball is the only key factor for hitting straighter and farther by swinging harder and faster, forgetting important facets in basics of the swing. There are multiple parts of the swing that involve biomechanics however; some key points are set-up, backswing, downswing, follow-through, and ground reaction force (GFR). To focus primarily only on one point of the swing to fix all problems is an obscure way to view the s...
Golf is the ultimate battle between man and nature. It is a beautiful sport in which dreams come true and hearts are broken. Man is challenged on every stroke by nature’s elements. Wind and rain are only a few of the conditions that affect this great game. Undulating hills, sand bunkers, thick rough, and even creeks and ponds come into play on most golf courses. These features are fierce at Augusta National Golf Course. Located along the fall line, the natural beauty of the region is the perfect complement to this championship golf course. Every spring when the flowers are in full bloom, Augusta plays host to The Masters Championship and is transformed into the Mecca of Golf.
An impulse of affection and guardianship drew Niel up the poplar-bordered road in the early light [. . .] and on to the marsh. The sky was burning with the soft pink and silver of a cloudless summer dawn. The heavy, bowed grasses splashed him to the knees. All over the marsh, snow-on-the-mountain, globed with dew, made cool sheets of silver, and the swamp milk-weed spread its flat, raspberry-coloured clusters. There was an almost religious purity about the fresh morning air, the tender sky, the grass and flowers with the sheen of early dew upon them. There was in all living things something limpid and joyous-like the wet morning call of the birds, flying up through the unstained atmosphere. Out of the saffron east a thin, yellow, wine-like sunshine began to gild the fragrant meadows and the glistening tops of the grove. Neil wondered why he did not often come over like this, to see the day before men and their activities had spoiled it, while the morning star was still unsullied, like a gift handed down from the heroic ages.
Golf is a game of honor. The furthest ball from the hole must be hit first to try and get it in. In match play, if the a player gets a double par they must pick up the ball and move on to the next hole. In golf, a player compete against an opponent to see who can hit the ball in the hole, the least amount of strokes. The athlete must endure mild to intense workouts to become good at the sport. The most important aspect to work on in golf, is the swing. The athlete must focus on their golf swing to perform optimal swing mechanics. This is because the players consistency for 18 holes “depends on a stable golf swing” (Pedersen). While swinging a club, a person can work at least 16 different muscle groups in their body, so training these muscle groups will help their overall ability. Last but not least balance is another essential for every golf player. In golf, “...players who are restricted in their hips or shoulders start to strike the ball better if they downshift to 75 percent or 80 percent of full tempo” (Nilsson). Balance is a key factor in playing and being good at
In the world of sport, a selection of game’s have been labeled as the “gentleman’s choice”. However, when push comes to shove, only one sport can rightfully stake claim to the tag, with that sport being golf. Many decisions and bonds have been done while playing this grass-laden game. Well, considering the sheer popularity of golf, Pipeline49 has brought the sport to life within its latest online casino slots release. Aptly titled Closest to the Pin, this game is all about precision and, quite frankly, we can’t get enough of it.
Ever since I was a little kid, golf has been there. Golf has been something in my life that I can always fall back on and use to get some anger out of just to clear my head. No matter what it was, golf has been my rock. There is nothing like waking up at the crack of dawn to get out under the sun to play a game you love.
Three of my teammates and I were golfing together. We teed off at one o’clock. Walking down the fairway of number one looked just like a scene out of a movie. The lake off to the right and a line of trees along the left, were just gorgeous.
I guess it started when I was about twelve years old. My father took me to this place called a golf course. I did not know why or what we were here for, but I was interested in finding out. We entered a building called a clubhouse; then, he paid for a bucket of practice balls. I followed him to the driving range. Once we got there, he got a metal stick from his golf bag and gave it to me. I grabbed the stick, and he showed me how to hold it. Then, he told me to swing it. I swung it back and forth as careless as I could. He then said, "Son, you have one of the nicest golf swings I have ever seen." I did not even know what I was doing with that stick, but I guess my dad saw something I didn't. My father then decided that he was ready to teach me how to use the three clubs of golf: a putter, iron, and wood. He handed me the putter, and we went to the green. He explained to me that a putter is used on a green to get the ball into the hole. I took a few smooth swings back and forth to get a feel for a putter. He said, "Hit this ball until it goes into the hole." I was impressed with myself because it only took me six hits to get it in the hole. He laid twenty balls on the green, and he told me to hit every ball in with one shot. It took me about three hours, but I accomplished what my dad told me. He thought I was ready to try the next club, so we headed to the next location. We went out onto the fairway, and he handed me an iron. He laid out some more balls on the ground and told me to hit them towards the flag on the green. The first ball I hit did not even get close to the green. The rest of the balls I hit went either over or on the front of the green, but I never let another one fall short. My dad said, "Keep practicing until you hit all of the balls on the green." I kept practicing until all of the balls were laid up around the flag.
I grew up at Ravenwood Country Club. I had the perfect life. My dad was a PGA golf professional and I got to use the club’s facilities whenever I pleased. However, there was one problem: I despised golf. Not only did golf disgust me, but it was my mortal enemy. I was around it so much that I never wanted to play. I would have been much happier chasing butterflies than playing golf.
After quitting baseball, I began to take up golf - a life long sport I had played with my dad however only recreationally. Not long after, I began my mistake free(sort of) journey with the River Bluff Golf team. Interestingly, during this time of my life, I felt lost but right at home. Furthermore, for the past three years, golf has made me incredibly happy. If I had the choice to go back and re-write my mistakes, I wouldn't - and after time to reflect, I don't believe that makes me insane or stubborn, just an individual who can safely say that he has a favorite
The first thing to look at is your golf mentality, it is both the beauty and the downfall for most people. Whether you have just begun to learn, or are a seasoned veteran, this part is crucial into how you feel about continuing. To start out, I like to breath in the crisp cool air, and do
... physically. Now my answer to this in an overall sense is that golf is more of a challenge mentally to most people. One bad shot can get in your head and affect you the entire round. As evident by the case study on the pros you have to have a good mental state of mind to succeed in golf. Golf does not involve running up a court or a field and making a play on the fly. Golf involves a well planned out strategic plan on how to attack the golf course and each shot throughout the round. It is like a well played game of chess you have to have all your pieces in place to perform at a high level and this pieces involve both the physical and more so the mental parts of the body. I thoroughly enjoyed the research that I conducted to construct this paper on the game of golf that I love and now feel relieved that I can answer my thesis question with sharp affirmation.
As the first rays of the sun peak over the horizon, penetrating the dark, soft light illuminates the mist rising up from the ground, forming an eerie, almost surreal landscape. The ground sparkles, wet with dew, and while walking from the truck to the barn, my riding boots soak it in. The crickets still chirp, only slower now. They know that daytime fast approaches. Sounds, the soft rustling of hooves, a snort, and from far down the aisle a sharp whinny that begs for breakfast, inform me that the crickets are not the only ones preparing for the day.
Some Americans had snuck out early to get some holes in. Tiny groups started turning into armies, as more people heard the news. My dad and I were part of that army. We had zero clue where to go, since neither of us had ever been to that course . We ended up stumbling onto the second hole just as a group was teeing off.
