Introduction: At the end of July, I awoke to one of my best friends, Kelly calling me to ask if I wanted to road trip down to Louisiana with her and one of our other friends Isabel. As the one in the group whom had always been spontaneous, I wasn’t very surprised when Kelly noted that the trip would take place in just a few weeks and that we needed to book plane tickets that day for the trip. Moreover, Isabel attends Louisiana State University and needed to drive down to school, however she did not want to make the nearly 24-hour drive alone. While, I truly wanted to go with two of my closest friends whom I consider family, I knew that this road trip would be difficult for several crucial reasons. For instance, my parents would not be on board …show more content…
Isabel, Kelly, and I took turns driving with one person navigating and one napping in the backseat. Three hour shifts of driving flew by as we listened to our favorite playlists and stopped every once in a while, to check out things such as antique stores off of the highway and several Waffle Houses. ii. We drove through several states, but my favorites were Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Throughout this, I sort of learned how to pump my own gas, which was exciting for me. iii. We stopped in Nashville, Tennessee after driving for 18 hours and were fortunate to walk up the “Broadway” and listen to different country bands play in the bars. Although, we could not get in, the bars didn’t have windows so we could listen to some of my favorite music. Additionally, we were a bit taken back as we gazed at all of the bright lights. Afterwards, we stayed in a hotel that Kelly’s dad offered to pay for fortunately.
C. After each taking a shift driving and nearly nine hours, we arrived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana the home of Louisiana State University. Before we could even unload the car in front of Isabel’s apartment complex, Isabel’s friends and roommates ran out to engulf us all in hugs. Although I had only met a few of her friends over summer break, they all acted as if they had known me forever. I think a large part of it was southern
El Paso, Texas is a relatively large city with a small town attitude. It is one of those cities that grows on you. I embrace the laid back lifestyle and bi-cultural environment - it’s given me an opportunity to develop a unique bicultural identity that influences my motivation to succeed. Especially, being the daughter of an immigrant that upholds Mexican culture. The majority of the population is hispanic, which gave me the sense of mexican traditions that I would share with my family in Mexico. Growing up bilingual ironically provided me comfort in the community. Also, the efforts of the community are being made to modernize and improve the city.
As Freddy peeled out of the parking lot Charles, sitting in the passenger seat, turned on 93.3 KTNP modern rock.. The first 3 days of their trip were mainly getting out of the places they had seen time and time again. They didn’t experience much except for driving and eating as they reminisced on the past. Stopping frequently for Stanley’s immensely small bladder they reached about 50 miles the first few days. As they approached the evening on July 3rd they drove by a college, and decided to see if anyone would let them crash for the night.
On Monday March 25, some members of the baseball team, my girlfriend, and I traveled to Murray State University to watch a concert performed by Nelly and the St. Lunatics. It was a terrible night to go anywhere because it was raining and storming the whole way, but there was nothing that was going to stop us from going to the concert. We where all so hyped up about it and couldn’t wait to head out. My brother, who attends Murray State, had gotten us excellent seats about seventy-five feet away from the stage.
I wonder if I should I start calling Las Vegas, Nevada home now. I’ve traveled back and forth from California to Las Vegas since I was a child. I can remember at the age of thirteen my family and I would take family weekend trips very often. By the age of seventeen I was forced to move to Vegas for 6 months right before my senior year of high school started. Since it was my last year of high school my parents decided to let me go back to California for the last three months and graduate with my friends. Since I wasn’t eighteen yet, I forced to go back to Las Vegas right the day after graduation.
I slouch back in my blue canvas-folding chair. My legs are crossed neatly in front of me, making a sturdy table for my notebook. I positioned myself between two tan RVs they both are decorated in their own special ways. My back was facing the Stone building, which is right on the edge of campus. The RV on my right has a garnet flag hanging on the back window with FSU sewn on in gold letters. The RV to my left chose a white a flag with the Seminole emblem, it was hanging from the over hang. People honk as they pass. Strands of my hair blow softly across my face in the cool breeze, and getting into my eyes occasionally. There are so many questions race through my mind as stare at the crowd in front of me. Every Saturday as I walk by the thousands of parked cars I wonder why they are here. What compels these men and women who have real jobs and live in exciting cities to come back here and tailgate? So I sit amongst them, and try to understand them. They talk and eat all around me. We have some camaraderie, but we are different. Maybe because I can't imagine myself in their shoes ten years from now.
Before, I could even take note, it was already October. It was time for me to pack everything in my room, and say my final goodbyes to my family members. I was going to leave everything that meant a lot to me behind. Previously, before October, we picked up my dad from the airport so that he could help us load all of our belongings to the U-Haul truck. Lily, ‘my cousin’, (we aren’t related, she is just a very close friend who I consider family) was staying with use because she want to see her father, who was also living in Denver. My mom and dad, sister, uncle, cousin, and I all stayed at the house one last night. I remember that my sister said that all her friends gathered around my mom’s car to wave goodbye to her. Her closest friends got very emotional and they started to cry. Not only did the move affect me, it also affected my sister greatly. It was like someone had given her a punch in the stomach. By the next day, we had everything in the U-Haul truck, and it was time for me to leave my precious Vegas behind. We had now started the drive to
Have you ever been to Texas? I have been once. My trip to Texas was unbelievably awesome. I saw many of things on my way there. While we were there, I had loads of fun. Many things happened while we were there. Texas was the coolest place I have ever been.
To start off to talk a little bit about where go to school, Thomas Gaines, in The Campus as a Work of Art (1991), proclaimed the Iowa State campus to be one of the twenty-five most beautiful campuses in the country. Gaines noted the park-like expanse of central campus, and the use of trees and shrubbery to draw together Iowa State's varied building architecture. Meanwhile spending days and nights on the campus, It has been a long few weeks to the start of my freshman year here at Iowa State. Never did I think that the move and the change of atmospheres and hoe meeting people would be so easy but also so hard. Going from the outgoing bubbly person I am to shy and bashful wouldn’t really come to mind when you think of my name.
On June 27, 2015, my entire life flashed before my eyes. I never could have anticipated what that particular day had in store for me and my best friend, Virginia. It was the day after my birthday and I felt the excitement built up in my chest as we drove to Charleston, South Carolina to celebrate on the beach. It was our last summer together before we both headed off to college and all I hoped for were a few last joyful moments spent soaking up the sun before we had to part ways. I thought the trip would be unforgettable, and I was right.
The place where I would like to call me second home is located all the way down in Savanna Georgia. I can remember way back about nine years ago in the summer of 2008. The plane ride was a long and hot, and I spent the whole ride playing on my PSP. When I got off the plane I remembered walking through the freezing cold Savanna International Airport seeing all the flags of different countries hanging from the ceiling, but then taking one step out of the airport front doors looking for the car services that was rented and feeling the crushing 100°F heat and deathly humidity. But it is all worth the painful heat to spend time in the beautiful city.
The car was hot and stuffy when I slipped back into the driver's seat. I found the most depressing music I owned and drove out of Glenwood as the sun started to set. Two more hours until I was home, two more hours of thinking what a terrible day I had gone through, and two more hours of cussing myself for being so naïve. The drive was a long one.
... of going to Travis Early College High School is the fact that I have the honors of taking courses with our partner school, the San Antonio College. I am part of the first class to ever pass through Travis’s door, and I have already taken eight courses. When the time is right I absentmindedly transfer buses for the remainder of my hour long journey, one I will take every Monday through Thursday until July eighth. The tan doors of Travis are welcoming as I march off the bus, however I am to be going in the cool, intimidating doors of SAC today – to learn about Mass Communications. From that point on my day goes smoothly, I listen intently to my professor, actively taking notes and participating until dismissed. Then I take the bus home and prepare to start the cycle again the next day, and the next, until the scorching summer heat turns to a soft late summer breeze.
The road before us seems to stretch for eternity. Driving away from home, the anticipation to get there is overpowering. The best way to pass time is singing along to dad’s 1980’s music. As the billboards flash by I can only catch
Bonnie the secretary introduced me to my new teacher. As Mrs. Bonnie was leaving the room, my new teacher Mrs. Evaheart introduced me to the class. As I stared at the class I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed. I wanted to go back to my old school where I had friends, knew almost everyone, a place where I didn’t feel lonesome, a place anywhere but here. As I saw each and every one of my new classmates faces the utter dread that I felt slowly began to fade as I saw a familiar face. Seeing one of my former friends give me a renewed hope that maybe being in this school won’t be so bad after
It was finally summer time and my friends and I couldn’t be happier. We had just gotten out of school when David, my next door neighbor and best friend started reminiscing on the times when we all used to head out to the lake every weekend. Even though David, Johnyboy, and Chris hadn’t all hung out as friends in a while, we decided to ask our parents if we could plan a camping trip during the summer. After deciding on asking, Johnyboy tells everyone to meet back up in two hours to see if everyone can go or not. While I was walking home, I kept having doubts about the camping trip. What if something happens? When we all used to go camping Johnyboy and David would always end up going to crazy. Even though David was my best friend, he still would go crazy from time to time, especially with Johnyboy being around. He was always the instigator of the trouble. I had trouble with making a decision when it came to the trip. If I went, I would be risking getting in trouble, but if I don’t go, I could risk missing out on a great time. I reached home and began talking to my mom. I told her how David, Johnyboy, and Chris wanted to go camping and to get her consent. She knew that David was a trustworthy guy, and Chris was a consistent religious follower, but my mom did not know the whereabouts of johnyboy. However, once we talked about the situation, she finally agrees to let me go on typical parent conditions like checking in every night and making smart choices. After we finished, I went upstairs and took a shower and got ready before I had to meet back up with the guys again. We met at our normal spot, the Circle K pump-n-go. Once everyone arrived we discussed how we would go about planning for the camping trip. Chris said he couldn’t ...
