I had already completed 1,205 hours at another Cosmetology school when they suddenly closed their doors. I was devastated and was unsure where I could turn. Additionally, I had just had a baby. It was only a couple of months after I returned that the school closed. Thankfully, Milan Institute was able to accommodate me as a transfer student so that I could complete my Cosmetology program and graduate. As it turns out, Milan is a great school. While I was attending the other beauty school, I did not feel that the teachers and staff were supportive of me. Once I arrived at Milan Institute, it was very different. Everyone from the instructors, the advisors, and the entire staff are friendly and supportive. They helped me to see that if you
really want something, all you have to do is go out and get it. Nothing can stop you. I also made many beautiful new friends at Milan Institute. I am so thankful that I found Milan. I was able to grow as a Cosmetologist and with everyone's support, I didn’t lose hope after what I had gone through at my previous school. I chose Cosmetology because I love helping people feel their best. I want to help people find their true beauty within. Plus, doing makeup is fun, and you can do hair too. It is a double score! I have a passion for this field, and I want to see other people happy in whatever way makes them feel special. Now, I love doing photo shoots, and I also do a lot of volunteer work doing color, haircuts, and styles! It is my dream to become one of the top ten cosmetologists in the world. Yes, I dream pretty big because I know that I can achieve it. At Milan, I learned that no matter what you face, you should not give up. You can do anything if you put your all into it. Never fear, the finish line is just around the corner.
Mrs. Roth started working as a cosmetologist in 2009, so she has 8 years of experience.
There are many different types of careers in the cosmetology field. The different types are; hairstylist, perm or hair color specialist, manicurist, pedicurist, barber, or esthetician. Anyone can major in one of these careers, multiple ones, or all of them. It doesn't matter how many they major in, they will still be considered a cosmetologist. To get a major in cosmetology, it is required to take a class in the career you are interested in. A typical cosmetology training program typically lasts nine months to about a year. Students are instructed on hair styling and cutting, scalp treatments, hair color, manicures and pedicures, chemical texture services, acrylic nail application, massages, facials, and eyebrow shaping. A student then takes advanced courses to expand their knowledge in this career. These courses may include studies on scalp disorders and diseases, scalp analysis, color application techniques, hair cutting tools, main principles of hair design, hair removal, massage techniques and benefits, cosmetology law and safe work practice. Once the course is finished, including service hours, the person then has to take and pass a state exam on the course. Once the exam is passed, the person then receives their certificate.

Every since I was a child I have had a passion for doing other people’s hair. When I was little I would use my baby dolls as clients and work on their hair until it was perfect and neat. I have chosen to be in the cosmetology field because I like to help other people with their needs and wants as well as mine. I am aware that while working in this industry I will work with many different ethnic groups and many different hair types. I feel I can do anything as long as I have the determination to do so. Many people go to cosmetology school to work for someone else, but I would like to open up a mini-salon out of my own home someday.

The practice of improving the beauty of others may seem insignificant to some but for those in process of studying the cosmetology industry take great pride in the work they hope to produce. Hair stylist and nail technicians improve the way people look and feel about oneself to better improve self confidence; cosmetologist strive to do the best they can to achieve the look that their client may be searching for. However, these techniques must be taught thoroughly and without the proper teaching techniques, the upcoming cosmetologist may feel behind and uncertain about their abilities when performing on clients. Without the proper and professional ways of teaching, the student struggle to ever gain success in the business; this business builds only from the repetition of great work and failing to achieve the overall style of the desired look from the client will result in a failing business. The search of finding a successful and up to date school requires more work than one may assume.
When I had first started going to Unity High School my thought about the school was it was going to be hard and feeling nervous about coming the first week. I was feeling nervous the first week at Unity High School first because I didn't know anyone. After a while of being here at Unity High School I felt more comfortable because I started to see who I was going to be around and I found more people to talk to. My feeling about high school before was just wanting to hurry up and make these four years go by fast. Today I still do feel the same and just trying to become a better person by coming to school. I never thought I would attend Unity High School but when I found out more about the real world I known this school would help me more than other schools.
Spring 2015, my first year of nursing school was a life changing event for me, I didn’t succeed as I anticipated. As the semester came to an end, I had daunting thoughts about transferring to another university
I have came to the realization that moving to a new school is tough but it was the best decision I have ever made. The challenges I had to face when making my decision were very hard. At my old school, which is Blue Ridge, I've made so many memories with good friends. I used to live in Phoenix when I was just a little kid and my family moved to Pinetop for my fathers new business. At Blue Ridge, I thought I found a home there. Everyone treated me wonderfully and I thought I wanted to graduate from Blue Ridge. At the beginning of my junior year, I started to have doubts about graduating there. My friends started to be very discluding towards me and they became not very trustworthy to me. Here are the reasons for why I moved schools my senior year.
After leaving school at the age of 16, I went straight into hairdressing. I started to go to a college one day a week and for the rest of the week I was learning on the job in a salon. I found this really beneficial to myself because in college I was getting the back ground and theory knowledge about why things were being done in certain ways and it also give me chance to be shown step by step instructions and apply the skills which I had picked up in my work place. Whilst I was in work I was able to watch the experienced qualified stylists, looking at how they work. This really helped my development and it gave me the chance to come up with my own ideas around the way I was going to do things. I feel that the one day each week working in the college really assisted my learning. It gave me a chance to put into practise what I had learnt in the salon from the qualified stylist and allowed me to learn alternative methods of doing things, especially if I couldn’t get the hang of it with the first way that I was taught. This was done by the teacher demonstrating on a training head and then the students going away and practising on their training heads until we felt confident to do it on a model. By learning this way it helped me to be in a safe environment whe...
