Earth. Evergreen Beauty College says “Some of the very first evidence of makeup in Mesopotamian civilization came from portraits and carvings of kings and priests.” Cosmetics were not just used to beautify people. Makeup could be used to identify lower classes (poor) from higher classes (rich) in different civilization. In African societies, “Many tribes colored the hair with red earth, and wore elaborate hairstyles and head dressing as a symbol of stature.” (Milady Standard cosmetology published 2016, Ted Gibson). How does that play a role in how cosmetics are used in modern day? But, that is not the only way cosmetics were used in earlier ages. The Egyptians cultivated the Kohl make up. The Ancient Egyptians produced and used Kohl makeup (Kohl makeup was made from a mixture of ground galena). Kohl makeup produced a cure to alleviate eye inflammation and protect their eyes from glare of the sun. (Milady Standard cosmetology published 2016, Ted Gibson). As Americans shifted their thought of “beauty” the changing of cosmetics evolutioned. Everyone wanted to be “flawless”, and that is steps closer to era “The Twentieth Century”. In the early twentieth century, the invention of motion pictures coincided with an abrupt shift in American attitudes. As viewers saw pictures of celebrities with flawless complexions, beautiful hairstyles, and manicured nails, standards of feminine beauty began to change. This era also singled the spread of industrialization, which brought a new prosperity to the united states. Beauty application began to follow the trends set by celebrities and society figures. It has always been dissimilar branches in cosmetics but in this era cosmetologists can specialize in what they desire -- hair color, skincare, or nail services. When cosmetics is thought of today, day spa, nail salons, and hair shows are all something that comes to mind. These different cosmetic service businesses developed from cosmetologists discovered what they adored doing and then they specialized in that service. Let us take Noel DeCaprio for an example. Noel DeCaprio played a key role in the evolving of cosmetic industry of the twenty-first Century. She was her own business owner in the cosmetics industry (Noelle Spa for Beauty and Wellness). Noel DeCaprio also coined the words Day Spa. “Since the late 1980s, the salon industry has evolved to include day spas, a name that was first coined by beauty legend Noel DeCaprio. Day spas new represent an excellent employment opportunity for beauty practitioners.” (Milady Standard cosmetology published 2016, Ted Gibson), Americans Making history! As Cosmetology continued to evolve numerous industries and opportunities were created. With these numerous industries being created schools made opportunities to specialize in this industries. Hair Color specialist, texture specialist, and hair cutting specialist, all these developed from individuals that found what they enjoyed in cosmetics. “The possibilities can endless for a hard-working professional. Cosmetologist who continues their education and approaches her or his career with a strong sense of personal integrity.” (Milady Standard cosmetology published 2016, Ted Gibson) What is the purpose of cosmetology or solons, when cosmetology is brung up what industries stands out, what is the social purpose, how does it affect the community around the solons? The primary purpose of Cosmetology is to train students in the theory and practical experiences in hair design, cutting, coloring, thermal services, chemical texturing, nail care, skin care, makeup, salesmanship, marketing and business skills that will prepare them for salon employment opportunities. (California Beauty College All Rights Reserved. © 2016) The purpose of anything anyone tackles should be to succeed in it. When something like cosmetics is put in place there should be action steps set for success. Have a purpose when in this major. Success requires hard work and dedication then spend time on the craft and everyone around will see the hard working ethic. “Build self-esteem, Visualize success, Build on your strengths, Be kind to yourself, Stay true to yourself, Practice new behaviors, and our personal life separate from your work.” (Milady Standard cosmetology published 2016, Ted Gibson) Steps such as stating are great for personal fueling.
Once the evaluation of self is built success will be way easier. Discovery in what is loved in the industry will come to light. After that is figured out set one goal that is felt like is most important, that is called a mission statement. “An essential part of business is the mission statement, which establishes the purpose and values for which an individual or institution lives and works by. It provides a sense of direction by defining guiding principles and clarying goal, as well as how an organization operates.” (Milady Standard cosmetology published 2016, Ted Gibson) Mission statement are typically created off of journeys and interest. Set goals based off that mission statement. Finally, the real purpose will come about. Eventually the focus for the business will come clear and the work ethic on that interest will grow.

2016) Most cosmetology schools base their curricula on state licensing requirements, but every state has different requirements. Nevertheless, common cosmetology coursework includes hair cutting and styling, safety procedures and business management. Most cosmetology programs also provide basic training in makeup application, manicures, massage therapy and skincare treatments. Cosmetology programs range from 1,000-1,500 hours. Students can choose to specialize in individual cosmetology fields. Estheticians, also known as skincare professionals, take courses that cover facial treatments, body wraps, skincare chemicals and body hair removal techniques. Nail technicians, also called manicurists, participate in coursework that covers manicures, pedicures, artificial nails, nail color treatments and nail diseases. Specialist programs typically require around 600 hours of coursework. Licensing exams can include written or practical tests, and sometimes both. Written exams cover questions about sanitation rules, chemical usage, hair styling techniques and state laws. Practical tests involve applicants following directions to style a mannequin or model. Some states also administer an oral examination in which applicants must provide verbal answers to cosmetology-related questions. Many states have licenses for each cosmetology specialty. Some states combine specialties under one unified license. After cosmetologists obtain their license, they might have to renew it by periodically paying a fee and filling out appropriate paperwork. Cosmetologists who hold a license in one state might have to get additional licenses to work in other states. ( copyright 2003-2018 Study.com. The only requirements that the students have to provide are scrubs. It is a 2 year program that takes up 4 classes a year (two a semester) of a high school career. It is also important to continue being educated to expand your knowledge of this industry. The Salary are reflected on how much work is put into the industry. “Their average wage nationwide was $12.72 per hour, or $26,460 a year, according to the BLS. Their annual wages ranged from $16,710 a year or less for the lowest-earning 10 percent to $41,490 a year or higher for the top 10 percent.” ( © Copyright 2018 Hearst Newspapers, LLC). “Hairdressing is an ever changing profession and education will keep you current with trends, the latest innovations, and newest techniques.” (Milady Standard cosmetology published 2016, Ted Gibson). The cosmetic industry has varies outlooks but it depends on the specialties that individuals want to pursue on what outlooks they are going to have. Cosmetology is a very broad industry that really has no limits. What individuals prefer and they can achieve it really determines whether the business will succeed or not. The ability to understand people is the key to operating in many industries. It is especially important in cosmetology, where customer service is the cornerstone of success. Most of a stylist’s achievements will depend on his or her ability to communicate successfully with a wide range of people: supervisors, coworkers, clients, and various vendors who come into the salon. (Milady Standard cosmetology published 2016, Ted Gibson) Being able to communicate efficiently is a key point in any industry. But being in the cosmetology industry where the business revolves around customer service primarily makes communication even more important. When working in business that involves customer service they usually have dos and don'ts to help you communicate with the customer positively. “Here are practical steps for effectively communicating in the workplace: Respond instead of reacting, Believe in yourself, Talk less, listen more, and Be attentive.” (Milady Standard cosmetology published 2016, Ted Gibson) (www.tspaappleton.com) Always work until the dreams are reached and while in that process do everything right and for others and the work will turn out positive. It all began my freshman year of high school when I was told about elective classes that would help me decide what I wanted to be when I grew up. I always had a passion for doing hair, make-up, and nails so that was easy for me to choose an elective. My freshman and sophomore year I decided I would take cosmetology classes. I would spend two hours each day of school in the cosmetology lab, which was always cold and smelled like hairspray, burnt hair from the straighteners or a strong acetone smell that someone gets a whiff of at a nail salon. We learned so much material and I had a good time practicing my skills on manikins and other classmates. One thing I didn’t enjoy was the gossip and drama, but of course one would expect that from a class

Without the proper and professional ways of teaching, the student struggle to ever gain success in the business; this business builds only from the repetition of great work and failing to achieve the overall style of the desired look from the client will result in a failing business. The search of finding a successful and up to date school requires more work than one may assume.

Cosmetologists and clients both are being affected by improper sanitation and care. Cosmetologists are always going to stay in their work space until their shift is over. They will continually be breathing the dangerous fumes from the many different chemicals being used. These fumes will possibly cause some health hazards in their future. Clients will be coming in and out of the salon to get their services done.
