Personal Narrative: My First Organized Basketball

“The tiny seed knew that to grow, it needed to be covered with darkness, and struggle to reach the light”. Joining my first organize basketball team, saving my parents’ marriage, breaking the scoring record in a AAU tournament, and graduating from high school shaped me into the man I’m today.
The first event is when I join my first organized basketball team. I was 12 years old in the 7th grade. I loved basketball I grew watching all the NBA greats like Michael Jordan, Lebron James etc. I decided to try out for my junior high basketball team. At the tryouts, I was terrible I was new to the sport and learning, but my luck the coach chose me to play on the as a there were few seconds left. It was a school night and lots of tension in the air. My mother and father were arguing during dinner time. The argument escalated into the room and things got louder and objects were being thrown. So, I came into the room and pulled my father into my room and started to talk to him. Explaining him that how wrong he is for raising his voice at our mother and I also reminded him all the things he thought me about respecting women etc. After our talk, my father went into the room and apologized to my mother and things went back to normal. May 16,2016 at Xavier university Hughes stem high school graduation. One of the most important days of my life a day when a new chapter opens in my book. My emotions were all over the place I was speech less I was proud of myself. Once they handed me my diploma that’s when I said I made it I achieved the ultimate accomplishment. There were thousands of people there looking at me but all I can see was my family and how happy they were cheering when they called my name. I was kind of sad I wasn’t going to see my friends anymore on a regular basis. This day changed me and opened my eyes. For the first time, I saw the real world. When I saw my dad afterwards he said, “I proud of you son but this is not the end you have college now and all you have to do is work hard on your studies in college and become the man you were destined to be”.
