Basketball is where I found my first passion. Through it I have learned many life skills and how to become a true leader. I have learned to understand others and to use that understanding to lead with compassion. Throughout my early years of basketball I learned how to work with others and that you must discipline yourself to achieve success. Later on I learned that making mistakes is okay and that your body language speaks volumes. Last year my team made it to state after many hours of practice and through lots of hard work. While down at the State Tournament in Lincoln, I got to put to use all of the things I have learned, and had been practicing for the last three months. I was able to be the leader and the hero making the winning free
throw, making it to the second round. I had to conduct myself with poise and understanding that I could not have made it without the other players putting in their time. Without them I would not have made it to state to have the privilege to shoot the winning free throw. Relaying this important information, while being interviewed by newspaper and television reporters, was influential to me because all the fame did not belong to me. I simply did something we had practiced every day to achieve our group goal. I feel that the things I have learned playing this game are things that will help me in every aspect of my everyday life. As a freshman starting at the bottom, I learned how to take criticisms from some friendly, helpful voices and some abrasive, callus voices. This has helped me transition into an upper classman giving criticism in a helpful teaching manner as to improve the team and others individually, without being insulting or being hurtful. By going through the basketball program I have acquired several necessary skills for life, taking criticism that comes in all different forms, how do give criticism to achieve a common goal, and the work ethic to get me and my team to the level we have dreamed of since 5th grade. My first and truest passion lead me to becoming a better all-around person in every aspect of life.
It taught me how to be more social and talk to the people around me. I was usually the shy kid in the group until I realized that one major focus while playing basketball was communication. Communication is a major key while on the hardwood because you always got to keep an eye open for your teammates and they’ll do the same. Another skill I developed was my jumping ability. My vertical increased as I got older. For example; as a freshman in high school I could touch the rim on a regulation sized hoop. As a sophomore, I had my first dunk but, it was with a volleyball not a basketball. The summer going into junior year, I had worked on a lot of plyometric workouts which increased my vertical. Junior year, I had my first dunk in an actual basketball game. My teammates and I will never forget that moment. Nobody in my team knew that I could dunk until I showed them. As a senior now. I am going to try and get my ball handling skills more
The scariest thing that I have ever experienced was dislocating my knee during my high school basketball game. While attending Forestview High in 2013 the second game of the season, I acquired my knee injury against Highland Tech. I was very excited about the game because I worked very hard to take a senior spot and was finally getting the opportunity that I was waiting for. Everyday during practice, I gave my all, all the blood, sweat, and tears that I experienced I just knew it was my time. Tuesday, November 22 we get to Highland, warm up, and finally it's time for tip-off. The first quarter I get off to a rough start getting all the jitters out. Second quarter arrives, then I began to get the feel of the game. As I penetrated down the lane after hitting a mean crossover, I came to a jump stop
In conclusion, it can be stated that basketball is a sport that has a positive influence on individuals from a tender age right through their adulthood. The sport has improved the overall behavior and performance of young adults, teaches them teamwork and persistence. Basketball also brings unity in communities and races alike, and has a constructive influence on the economy as a whole.
When you look at a basketball what do you see? Most would see an orange, sphere, shaped rubber ball. There are black lines and real leather. If you look closer, you would even see the size of the ball in which you are playing with. A basketball could be just a toy for many, or even represent a release for others, but for me, it means a lot more. A basketball represents my blood, sweat, tears, passion, sacrifice, and most of all, a sense of belonging, like a family. At this moment in my life, there are only three things I devote my life to- family, friends, and basketball. Basketball has shaped my life probably more than anything else. Basketball has instilled in me a vicious will to achieve and embrace my ambitions instead of fearing them. Basketball gave me an open opportunity to try something new. New opportunities and experiences are not such a big deal anymore. From academics to personal matters, the lessons that I have learned from basketball has impacted my life.
I was thirteen years old bouncing a basketball in my front driveway. Playing for pure joy, never thinking twice that this sport could take me any further. Little did I know that what I thought to be the simple sport of basketball would soon change my life forever.
Being part of the basketball clique in high school helped me learn the intrapersonal and social communication skills I use today. As a child playing basketball was my favorite activity or hobby. It's also the way I met a lot of my good friends that I have now. All my close friends I have met. I have met them through playing basketball.. Whether they were on my team, the opposing team or just fans in the crowd who admired my play. Not only has basketball helped me gain friends, but basketball also taught me a lot about life. There are many aspects of life that coincide with basketball. For instance basketball is a team game and an individual game. Like in life you have to work together with other people. The communication skills I learned from basketball helped me communicate with friends, girlfriends, parents and bosses at work.
Ever since I was a little boy, about eight years old or so, I had an extreme passion for the sport of basketball. On weekends, I would wake up in the morning, eat a bowl of frosted flakes or cheerios, put on basketball shorts and then go in my driveway to shoot around. I would be out there for hours just shooting around or playing with some random kids that I would occasionally see walking around my neighborhood. This was satisfaction to me, but even better was playing on multiple public teams and not just playing in my driveway every day. In elementary school, I played in a recreational league, just like almost every other kid who tries out basketball when they were younger. This was fun and all but it was nothing too serious. There were never any practices, it was just one or two unorganized games per week. I never took
Walking on the court, dressed for practiced, knowing that this was a sacred place where I could show everyone who I really was without facing any type of judgement. Basketball had the ability to take all my insecurities aside and showcase the leader that I had the potential to be not only on the court, but in life. This sport shaped me to be a determined, committed, confident, reliable, coachable and happy individual. After being at the collegiate level, my life changed and I was lost. Graduating from California State University of Monetery Bay with a B.A. in Sociology was a great accomplishment.
Basketball has played a big role in my life thus far. The game of basketball to me means everything that I want to have for my city and for myself. I have a dream of holding up a state championship trophy for my team and for myself. I have put countless numbers of hours into what it would be like for this dream to become a reality. Next year will be my final year of high school basketball. Texas district realignment moved this super small 4A team to an extremely large 3A school. The chance of winning the state championship in 3A is much better than we could have if we had stayed in 4A. I continue to dream about that day that will hopefully happen in the next year of my life.
A lot of people have that certain sport that is there favorite either its cause they played the sport or overall they like watching it. Here are the reasons why basketball has been my favorite sport since I was about 5 years old. I always enjoyed watching the sport of basketball growing up watching Ray Allen, Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, T-MAC, and Vince Crater the list can go on all day. I always paid close attention to what all the players where doing cause I was all ball player more than anything I watch how they dribbled the ball cross people over and even imitate there shots down to the way there fingers where after their shot.
I will never forget the day where something as simple as basketball saved my life. It was February 4, 2014; it was the worst day of my life. My brother from another mother was gone faster than the brain could process.
Basketball on is one of the most played and watched sports in the world, in fact basketball is third out of the top ten sports that America watches.I don’t actually know why basketball is my favorite sport but I love it, even though I really play that well. One of the
It was a frosty winter morning in the town of Nashville. My basketball team was on the way to our last tournament of the season. The sounds of the crowd cheering and the teams playing were the only sounds on that Saturday morning. The teams were enthusiastic about the games ahead. We all woke up early that Saturday morning because of the enthusiasm leaping out of our bodies. I felt something in my heart, that told me something offbeat was going to happen.
It was going to be my third year of living in the town of Drums, Wisconsin. I live with my brother, parents, and my two dogs and two cats. I am a Junior at Drums High School, and I can’t wait for my basketball season to begin. I hope this year everything goes well and no one gets hurt.
Basketball is one of the interesting sports I have always wanted to engage myself even as a little child. It was a dream come true when I started playing basketball in my high school. Moreover, I was very good in it, and I became the team leader. Of course, I enjoyed every bite of the time I spent playing basketball. My participation in basketball, has had numerous effects on my life, and these are physical, personal and social.
