One of the best family trips that I have been on occurred when I was about 8 years old. My family and I were invited to go on a 4th of July camping trip to Telluride by some family friends that have 5 kids the same ages as our kids. Several other good friends were also invited to join us. We prepared our camping gear, loaded up the car and hooked up our trailer with our Polaris Ranger. The long drive to Telluride was 7 hours and it felt like it took forever because we were so excited to arrive. Even though the drive up their wasn’t fun at all, the reward was great. The first matter of business we took care of when we arrived in Telluride and unloaded the car was setting up camp. Our first adventure was going to a small, open cave that had furniture
made out of stacked up rocks. Before we got to the cave, we had to ascend up a rocky cliff that had vines all over it. When I was scaling up this cliff, my life flashed before my eyes. My foot slipped and was about to fall off when someone below me took hold of my foot and helped me back up. Once we all got up the cliff we walked for about two miles to arrive at our destination. After we stayed at the cave for a while, we walked back down to camp for lunch. As soon as all of us ate lunch, we went on another amazing adventure. We walked a mile from our camp to a river that had a waterfall. All of us rushed over to the water and started playing. Hours later, we started walking back to the camp for dinner. After dinner, on the horizon along with the sunset, we saw a bear exploring the campsites and looking for food. My dad pulled out his gun and was getting ready to shoot the bear if it got too close. After a couple of minutes, the bear wandered away and left us in peace. A few of the men followed the bear for a few minutes to make sure it was leaving the area. There was a bear trap set up near by, which made us feel more safe while we slept just feet away in our tents. Another thing we did when we were up at Telluride was fishing. All the boys walked over to the raging river and sat there fishing for hours. After hours of catching fish, we took our fish and walked back to camp. Once we got back to camp, it was time for dinner. We cleaned the fish, coated the fish with butter and cooked it over the blazing fire. The last thing we did when we were at Telluride, was take our Polaris Ranger up a mountain to look at the night sky. We got to the peak of the mountain and the view was outstanding; it seemed like you could see everything. The 4th of July fireworks began as we layed on a blanket, watching the fireworks explode all over the mountain. It was an excellent way to finish off the incredible trip. At last, we packed up and left. We arrived back home after a long car ride of boredom because of heavy traffic due to the 4th of July weekend, and we were all heartbroken because we missed Telluride. Even though we were sorrowful about leaving, we eventually got over it and magnificent memories remained. My family had so much fun at Telluride because it was a trip full of exciting adventures.
Have you ever looked off a gigantic cliff? Now imagine traveling 30 miles per hour on a bike with curvy roads with enormous cliffs on your side with no rails. This is exactly what I did with my family when we went to Colorado. From the hotel we drove to a bike tour place to take us to the summit of Pikes Peak. After we arrived at the building we saw pictures of how massive the cliffs were, but what terrified me was the fact they had no side rails. This observation was thrilling as well as terrifying. It was an odd mix of emotions, but I loved the adrenaline rush it gave me. My dad whispered to me, “ This will be absolutely horrifying”.
I wonder if I should I start calling Las Vegas, Nevada home now. I’ve traveled back and forth from California to Las Vegas since I was a child. I can remember at the age of thirteen my family and I would take family weekend trips very often. By the age of seventeen I was forced to move to Vegas for 6 months right before my senior year of high school started. Since it was my last year of high school my parents decided to let me go back to California for the last three months and graduate with my friends. Since I wasn’t eighteen yet, I forced to go back to Las Vegas right the day after graduation.
Out of all the trips I have taken, Cancun was definitely the best. It was 2013 and I was in fifth grade. I had known about the trip for weeks and I was so amped up for the plane ride, for the hotel, and especially the ocean. I was in science and the teacher was getting mad because I was distracting all the kids by jittering all over the place. Finally I heard my name called over the intercom and I leaped for joy and ran out of the classroom. From school we drove to the Iowa Airport, got our tickets and loaded onto the plane. Our first plane took us to Chicago, Illinois where we boarded a plane , at the O’Hare International Airport, departing for Cancun,Mexico. The second plane was very lengthy, I tried to sleep but I didn’t actually fall asleep
Have you ever been to Texas? I have been once. My trip to Texas was unbelievably awesome. I saw many of things on my way there. While we were there, I had loads of fun. Many things happened while we were there. Texas was the coolest place I have ever been.
I awake by the music playing on the radio on 92.5FM. The clock read 5 ’o’ clock in the morning. While I could be sleeping in like everyone else my age, I rise quickly to put on a pair of bootcut jeans and a tanktop with my long, blonde hair pulled into a low ponytail. Lastly, I pull my ponytail through my blue and yellow hat with Rockin W Ranch stitched across the front. As I’m leaving for another long, hard working day on the horse ranch, I slip on my well worn cowboy boots. My day involves hard labor like: bailing hay, grooming horses, working horses, throwing saddles on Appoloosa horses, different obstacles, and my favorite riding horses. Around one in the afternoon, my legs and arms begin to shake with fatigue, but I must push on. I will move forward to finish as strong as I started.
Through all of my struggles and triumphs, I always remember to take time to visit my favorite ridge, whether it be in person or through memories or fantasies. My first memory of the Grand Canyon does not do my sanctuary justice. At five years old, I was filled with curiosity and wonder at how something as large as the ridges and valleys below me could exist. The only word running through my mind was unfathomable. Although it was such a big word for a small kid, I said it with confidence.
The Blue Ridge mountains are beyond amazing. Blue haze covers them, almost making the mountains and scenery nearly vanish; creating a place for imagination to stir inside of people. The Blue Ridge mountains inspire me because they make me feel free, help me get to know nature better, and show the wonders and mysteries Earth has on it. When I am in the Blue Ridge, it makes me feel self-ruling. There are no fences or houses to block your way or your simplistic view of the glorious mountains.
It was a quiet, bright morning on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon , not a cloud in the sky. Me, my mom and dad ate a large breakfast of egg, hashbrowns, and bacon to get read for the huge dy before us. My dad and I packed our backpacks with all the supplies we needed to camp in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Inside we had a pillow, a sleeping bag, six packs of MRE’s (meals ready to eat), trail mix, two liters of water, clothes, towels, and other small things. Strapped to the outside of our packs were half of the tent each and our sleeping mats.
The Band Trip I was only a sophomore at Iowa City West High when I got to go to Disney World for the very first time. We left after school one day on a 24 hour bus ride down to Florida. I did not mind the ride; it just got to be very cramped and hot at some points. We were able to watch movies which were a good thing because there was not much to do on a bus. We watched Les Misèrables, Finding Nemo, and The Sandlot.
Cesare Pavese once said, “We do not remember the days; we remember moments.” Everyone goes on a vacation at least once in their lifetime and probably goes on more than one family vacation. Family vacations are time we remember for the rest of our lives whether they were exciting or extremely boring. Family vacations are usually fun times spent with your family camping in the woods, skiing down a mountain, or going to the beach.
One year my aunt and uncle went with us. Another year when I was 11, my cousin Caleb and his family went with us. He and I are the same age and love hanging out together. That was a great trip when he went with me. I enjoyed showing him the ropes and all my favorite rides.
One of the most enjoyable things in life are road trips, particularly to the Colorado mountains. Getting to spend time with your family and friends, while being in a beautiful place, is irreplaceable. The fifteen-hour road trip may feel never-ending, but gazing at the mountains from afar makes life’s problems seem a little smaller and causes worries to become a thing of the past. Coming in contact with nature, untouched, is a surreal experience. My family trip to the Colorado mountains last summer was inspiring.
When I was a young child I would love to hear my parents tell me that we were going on a trip. I would be full of excitement, because I knew that we would be going to a place that I had never seen before. My parents, my brother, and I would pack our luggage and venture out in our small gray minivan. Three of my most cherished memories in our minivan are when we went to Disney World, the beach, and the mountains.
My most memorable family vacation took place two years ago. We went to Corsica, a French island situated in the south of France right next to Italy. I remembered waking up early excited to visit this new land. Used to take long flights, I was surprised to arrive to the destination after a one-hour flight. Even though the flight was short for me, it was stressful for my mom, she has never felt secured in a plane, probably due to the fact that she is afraid of height. When finally arrived at the destination, the dry and warm weather was there to welcome us. We all felt relief, and knew that this was the beginning of the summer. Excited, we had a lot of activities planned for the few weeks, me and my father could not wait to dive in the clear
Going on a road trip with my family means the world to me. We drove to another state during summer vacation, and it was by far the best road trip I have ever been on. My family and I were able to go to many fun places. We ate so many exotic and delicious foods as well. Yet most importantly, I spent time with my family and their friends. It was the day when my family and I went to California for our summer vacation.
