I recently stood up for my belief in the Democratic system. I understood from a young age how much freedom a Democracy can offer as opposed to Communism and Socialism. My mother would tell me how the Americans the freest people in the world sacrificed so much for a small country that was threatened by the expansion of Communism. If you look at North Korea they are the most economically restricted country in the world, they starve their own people, and are not willing to be at peace with their neighbors. The way I attempted to contribute to the Democratic process was to volunteer for my local State Senator Ted Kennedy Jr. What I wanted to do was to help my community by taking part in a local election because local elections have more influence
live in a democracy that expects you to participate, to hold an opinion and vote...but at the
We as people can live through the pain and hardship caused by some of the kinks in democracy, but it is not only necessary but mandatory for us to be the people the Founding Fathers wanted us to be. Not only do we owe them that but we owe the people who are suffering due to the lack of morals not set by their leaders. We as people must fight to spread the ideas of the Revolution to grow America into what our ancestors wanted it to

It is our civic right and duty to actively participate in governmental affairs. This recent election really highlighted the divide in opinion regarding the importance of governmental participation. “To many, our democratic system seems so broken that they have simply lost faith that their participation could really matter,” West writes in his essay entitled The Deep Democratic Tradition in America. Young people feel unimportant and irrelevant, which explains the lack in turnout from young voters ages 18-29. However, it wasn’t just young voters that didn’t turnout. Millions of eligible voters didn’t show up for the 2016 elections. A democracy without active participants is a democracy bound for
The Chartist movement (a working class political movement) in 1840 believed “People had no one else but themselves to blame for the actions of their politicians” (Nash). What Mr. Nash and the chartist movement believe couldn’t be more on the spot. This country has gotten to the point where people find it hard to walk down their street to the elementary school where the voting polls are, and take a few minutes to cast a vote. A vote that millions of people around the world wish they were able to have themselves. With all the political suffrage that goes on throughout the world and people forced to love a leader, these no-shows should be thankful to live in a democracy.
For example, the majority of wars that America has personally fought could and should have been avoided with a democratic decision. The Iraq war is a perfect example; there should have been more time and energy put into the idea of war with Iraq and going into the Middle East. Instead, the American government went in guns blazing and to the surprised of the American people; what seemed like what was going to be a nice small war turn into a 10-year investment. Men and women in power have seen loved ones, friends, and innocent lives lost; the call for war would be a just causes not a reckless ones.
My beliefs are important to me. I wake up every morning with a cup of coffee in my hand and turn on the daily news. I see many problems occurring around the world, but most of us are too blind to actually do something to help. We are too blinded by our society's cultural that we can’t separate ourselves from the good and bad.
For Americans, the word “democracy” itself is strong enough to conjure up notions of a nation unhindered by an oppressive government where citizens are able to engage in the freedom of speech, press, and religious choice and practice. So powerful are American pro-Democratic sentiments that it is a common thought that any other country that does not prescribe to a liberal democracy is somehow inferior. Yet as time marches on, the feelings of superiority by American citizens become more and more unfounded. For, right before our eyes, the very notion of democracy, that Americans become braggarts about, is disappearing. While the U.S. government boasts of the freedoms it affords its citizens, it corrupts such an image through repeated non-democratic actions. While citizens cherish the affordances of a liberal democracy, many do not make the effort to support such a system; taking it for granted that no matter what, a democracy is a self perpetuating entity. In this paper I will argue that the liberal democracy that supposedly defines American government is a declining entity due to overt acts against the principles of democracy by the United States government and also due to the decline of civic engagement by United States citizens. The fact is, no system of government can be perpetuated if the government and its citizens do not work to keep their ideals alive and in practice.
Every person has an American Dream they want to pursue, achieve and live. Many people write down goals for themselves in order to get to their dream. Those never ending goals can range from academic to personal. As of today, I am living my dream. My American Dream is to become a nurse, travel to many places, have a family, and get more involved with God.
Growing up i remember we would put signs in our front yard and they were always for democratic candidates that were running for office, and I feel that this subconsciously helped me side with liberals from an early age since I was so impressionable. My dad took me with him to go door to door trying to help someone get elected i don't remember which candidate it was but i remember him being a democrat and we would talk to the people who would listen about the candidate’s ideas on the major issues. I remember agreeing with this candidate’s ideas just like when I took a political ideaologies quiz at isidewith.com I agreed with Bernie Sanders because I think the goverment should help those who are in need. Most nights during the week before I go to bed my dad will be watching either The Daily Show or The Colbert Report I join him because the show is funny and the hosts of the shows share most of the same political belief as me. Due to me siding with these tv show hosts and Bernie Sanders I will vote along their political
From a very young age I knew that I was going to move out of my hometown Guadalajara, Jalisco for the rest of my life, after all, my parents had given me a very unique opportunity, a U.S. nationality. My goal was to finish high school in the U.S. and one day enroll in an American college, however, my parents were not willing to let a 17 year old girl move thousand of miles away on her own, with only the support of her older sister, that lived in Washington State. My mother was the one in opposition to this idea the most, every time I mentioned even the smallest comment about me moving away, she would instantly change topics, turn the volume up, or just say she didn’t want to talk about it, I would always insist, until she was willing to hear
Most Americans get their political beliefs from their family, the media and from the school. Families are mostly known to structure the American teens on their point of view towards a political issue. This is true considering some of my attitudes towards a political topic comes from my parents'. For example, when my parents are watching the news they say some comments saying what they would do, and I would agree with them or think the contrary. This is when the school comes along. When I agree with my parents, I stick to the opinion and see it as a fact, but then school informs you saying what is truth and what is false, what is right to do and what is useless. This is when school supports my parents ideas or disagree with them, and that’s
I am a patriot in 1781. I fought alongside of General George Washington. I was one of the officers who went with General Washington on October 19 for surrender of General Cornwallis. General Cornwallis didn’t attend that day. He plead sick and in his stead he sent his second in command to take his sword to our commanders while the British band played “The World Turned Upside Down.” It was rememberable site but it only came after a great sacrifice that day. My best friends saved my life and hundreds of others with his sacrifice.
We had great heroes because of our great patriotism.who? you my ask had that great
I entered the jury deliberation not guilty, and I left not guilty. I remained not guilty despite the pressure from my fellow jurors to “compromise” at a second degree murder verdict (which was not a compromise from my perspective at all) or to go all the way up to a first degree murder charge. I thought that this case was an easy “not guilty.” It definitely was not.
