It's been awhile since i joined the rebellion i ended becoming one of the sons of liberty. I'm still a shop/bakery owner and my family's business has been going great. I wake up and find my wife still in bed so i kiss her on the shoulder "good morning love. I have to go pick up the supplies." I say softly before leaving. I walk to the docks and meet up with a buddy of mine. He lets my on his ship and he tells me how whenever he gets goods now he has to pay taxes (remember he is on a boat when he picks these goods up.) For some reason his anger is contagious and i feel it to. This is reasons why i became part of the rebellion against the king and his little minions. I end up bring in back a lot more supplies than i expected so i have to get
It was said, and is very true, that the British gave a lot to the colonists and we see such helpings as in the French and Indian war. The British gave up a lot of troops and money and numerous others in fighting that war, that the least that the colonist could do is to pay the taxes. Well they do have a good right to say that since they were the contributing factor in the colonists being safe from the French and Indians. The people, in the end should go about daily lives and pay the normal taxes, but you do have to draw the line somewhere. (DCT 1)
Breen suggests that the trust that developed during the 1760s and 1770s allowed for the rapid growth of the boycott movement against British goods to pressure Parliament into rescinding taxes imposed without colonial consent. During this period, colonists began to see themselves more in the context of Americans due to the printed materials that were becoming more widespread and abundant, as well as by their participation in the expanding colonial marketplace. According to Breen, consumer goods provided the essential and "powerful link between everyday life and political mobilization" (p.19).
That they understood, but they didn't appreciate the fact that they didn't have a say into how the debt would be paid. The British passed the Townshend Acts to offset the war debt. This caused the colonist to reinstate the boycott on luxury items.
Shay's Rebellion was the first armed uprising of the new nation. It was caused by the absence of debt relief legislation in Massachusetts. When the Revolution ended, merchants and creditors lobbied for high taxes and against paper money. They were successful. These procreditor polices underminded farmers' finances. The legislation, including foreclosure laws, were extremely taxing to farmers and caused many to go into great debt. Many farmers were dragged to court where they faced high legal fees and threats of imprisonment because of their debt. In 1786, farmers in Massachusetts attended extralegal meetings where they protested against high taxes and aggressive eastern creditors. Bands of angry farmers joined together to close law courts with force and freed debtors and fellow protesters from jail. Resistance to the legislation climbed to a full-scale revolt. John Adams, president at the time, answered with the Riot Act, which outlawed illegal assemblies. The rebellion was suppressed by military force. The rebellion prompted leaders with national perspective to redouble their efforts and create a stronger central government.
“Line up Soldiers!” The Red-Coat was screaming at us the second we got off the bus telling us to line up and to be quiet. My fifth grade class was on a field trip on this windy November morning. We were at Riley’s Farm and about to live for a day like we were in 1765 as a Patriot during the American Revolution. We were on the bus for 2.5 hours and finally we arrived.
A Declaration of Independence from Independence I declare independence, from independence. Independence has many problems for people throughout the years. I dislike continuously having independence, it has been a source of huge stress in my life. We all wanted our independence from an oppressive tyrant, but we don’t like the stress that comes with it.
It was a cold morning me and my brother George along with the rest of the patriots were mad at the british for taxing us. It was 1770 me and George, young patriots wanted to stop the taxes.
In Joseph Plumb Martin’s account of his experiences in the Revolutionary War he offers unique insight into the perspective of a regular soldier, which differs from the views of generals and leaders such as popular characters like George Washington. Martin’s narrative is an asset to historical scholarship as a primary source that gives an in-depth look at how life in the army was for many young men during the War for Independence. He described the tremendous suffering he experienced like starvation and privation. He did not shy away from describing his criticism of the government who he believes did not adequately care for the soldiers during and after the war. While he may be biased because of his personal involvement as a soldier, he seems to relate accounts that are plausible without embellishment or self-aggrandizement. Overall, “A Narrative of A Revolutionary Soldier” is a rich source of information providing an overview of military experience during the war.
Identity-“Ones personal qualities.”Identiy is something only he or she can fully define. My uncle says I am affectionate, cheerful, and calm. My grandmother sees me as slim, pretty and sweet. My dad described me as perky, cheerful and happy, my mom says beautiful, gentle, and self-conscious. These adjectives describe me accurately, yet they are only abstract versions of me. Adjectives cannot begin to describe me and I aknowlege these descriptions for what they are, a condensed translation from my outward self to the world. It is impossible for anyone to understand me completely because nobody has experienced the things I have. My mother has never cherished a raggedy doll named Katie and my father never spent hours upon hours making collages and scrap books for his future children. My uncle never hid in the back of a pick-up-truck and traveled four hours to New York and my grandmother has never walked hours in the rain looking for the Queen of England. My identity is something only I can define.
“You got him! Nice shot man! You did amazing on it,” my brother congratulated me.
The year is 1880 and The Civil War ended fifteen years ago, my family is struggling to sustain on the meager income that I make, working for the general store in the city of Richmond, Virginia. Fifteen years after the war, buildings have gaping holes from the cannons and few bridges have been repaired. The Union army took anything of value and left the city of Richmond broken. Times are tough, I have a wife and three children to support, reluctantly we make the hard decision to leave our home and go west. Before the war, my family owned a prosperous farm and after the Union burned it down; we have nothing except for the meager wages I make at the store. Farming seems to make the most sense for us, so we will go west to Texas and try our luck
The next day I woke with no belief that I was still alive. I didn't know where was I going to go because that one guard saw my face and I am pretty sure he knows who I am now. I had to disguise myself but I didn't know how. Except for shaving my hair. My beautiful, beautiful hair. I didn't want to cut my hair but I had no choice to. It was the only way I was going to live and not be eliminated or die in whatever way the army men kill you if you disobey their rules. Of course I didn't trust Zachary to cut my hair because we were buds and buds jack with each other. I didn't trust Frederick that much either because I didn't know him that much but he was the adult so I made him get it. He was really worried that he was going to hurt me but then
Looking back my absolute favorite game as a kid was Capture the Flag, as it is a very exciting game that can be played with 6+ people and can go on for hours. To play, the group of kids divides into two teams and each team has a “flag” which can be any object really to hide from the other team. Each team sets boundaries where their flag can be hidden in and this is considered the teams “territory.” From there the two teams pick their strategy to find the flag. The only catch is, if you are caught or “tagged” by the opponent then you are now in the other teams “jail” which means you have to sit out. Once the flag has been captured, that team wins, and the came is over.
On June 13, 2016, I along with my youth group went on our annual summer camp called Super Wow. Although the youth group has gone previous years, I have not had the chance, so I was really looking forward to my first year. As soon as the week began, I knew in my heart that this week would be more than just a regular week; I could not shake the feeling that God was trying to speak to me. Soon after I prayed to God that I was listening, I heard that one of my best friends, Madison, was going to be baptized before going home. At the moment I heard that, I knew that God was telling me that this was my time to be baptized also. At the time, I had been a Christian for about 6 years, but I never had the pull in my heart to get baptized until that week.
This was it. This was what it all comes down to. Right here, right now is my time to prove myself. They say in aspects of life that you either make it or break it. Well, this was my time to decide which would happen. I guess you could say that I revolved around softball my whole life, and usually I put my heart and soul into the game. Today was different. I had very ounce of myself in this game, but in this game my mind had to be in it too.
