It’s been a week since me Mike Duthem has survived that plane crash in the ocean and I have learned more about better ways to improve my survival. A day or two ago I was walking on the beach of this Island with clear ocean tropical water on my right and an endless amount of palm trees to my left. On this walk I noticed another abandoned half sunken ship on the shore and I swam in the water to explore it. In my discoveries I found a dry and barley damaged survival guide. My goals were to improve my living conditions on this Island like water, food, and shelter. I have learned how to make an axe and hammer with materials on this Island and this would help me if the axe or hammer breaks. Also the survival guide taught me how to make my fire
Roderick Nash. ISLAND CIVILIZATION A VISION FOR HUMAN OCCUPANCY OF EARTH IN THE FOURTH MILLENNIUM. 2001. .
At first, we see a despondent, unaccepting person stuck on an island. This person refuses to have any relation to the nature and environment he is stuck in and is willing to do anything possible to escape the state of destitute he is imprisoned in. He initially tries to signal for rescue and ma...
The aftermath left by the disaster has left the conditions on the island rather bleak. If something isn’t done quickly conditions will continue to deteriorate and the resulting problems jeopardize their way of life and ultimately their very existence. As a believer in Devine Command Theory, I refuse to be looked at as a god. For the Bible says in Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before me” and Exodus 34:14 says “Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God”. Having said that, I am willing to be the leader of the people of the island. As their leader it is my responsibility to come up with a strategic plan that will help save the inhabitants of the island, improve the living conditions, and improve the moral attitude of all.
When deciding on what to pack for your ever adventurous journey can be very overwhelming. Space is limited and so is the amount of weight that you can physically carry so how do you choose what to take. Many suggest that a basic survival kit be assembled before setting out. This kit would include, but not be limited to matches, fire starters, fishing line, a tiny compass, and water purification tablets. Stephen Regenold. "Survival Gear: 10 Items to
Ok now first of all you will need a survival kit and in your kit you’ll need things like…
They take you on an underground mine tour and you learn a “ton”, see what I did there? So we exited the park a few hours later and within an hour or two we arrived at the Charles L Sommers Northern Tier base. There we learned more about the trip and what was laid ahead of us. We also learned why a mass genocide of all mosquitoes must be executed. THEY WERE EVERYWHERE! The next morning we set off and I saw just how difficult this trip would be. We had to flip a canoe onto our shoulders, and being as scrawny as I was sure didn’t help. We also had to learn about all the gear we were bringing along with us. We set off after a few hours of training with all our gear in our canoes and got on the water to begin the hard part of the adventure. I sat Duff that first half of the day. And for those of you who are unfamiliar with the term it means to sit in the middle of the canoe dying of boredom as two other people in the stern (back) and bow (front) paddled. Okay maybe I’m not cutting it enough slack. As Duff you are also supposed to help navigate as you are the only person on the boat who has their hands free. So as I sat there feeling useless, Griffin and our Guide Matt were paddling away. We
Chuck Noland had no idea what to do when he arrived at the island. He sat in the same spot for a couple days clueless and pondering over the fact that there was nobody else on that island. The noises he heard was just coconuts falling off of the trees. That’s when he figured out that he wasn’t going to die of thirst; he just had to figure out how to get them open. He used rocks and sticks to help him open and catch things to survive. After he found out that there was nobody there, he went to explore to find shelter. He found a tree growing out of the side of a cliff. So he climbed up there and found a cave for shelter. He used trees for good and bad, but more for good. Sure he cut down a lot of trees, but he used them all for either rope, firewood, or his boat that he was making to get off of the
It was our fifth day in the Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico, the halfway point of the trek. I as the Crew Leader was responsible for the other 11 members of the crew, including 4 adults. I was in charge, and amazingly the adults rarely tried to take over, although they would strongly advise me what to do in some situations. Phil, with the exception of me, the oldest scout and the Chaplain for the trip, was my second. Together we dealt with problems of making sure everyone carried the right amount of stuff in their pack to who had to cook and cleanup each day. The trip had gone well so far, no injuries, and the worst problem had been a faulty backpack. As I walked I thought about the upcoming campsite. Supposedly this one had running water from a solar powered pump—so had the last night’s site but the tank was too low to use for anything but cooking because the of how cloudy it had been of late. But today was bright and shinny, and hot, so I didn’t think there would be a problem.
...light arose, my eyes began to squint shut trying to block the sunlight drifting in. I failed and immediately woke up opening my red watery burning eyes. David ran through the rough edged sedimentary grey rocks and through the bright green leaves of the trees with an idea. “To get rescued we should make a large SOS sign with rocks so that the planes flying from above can see it” he said. I thought the idea was incredible, so we all came together placing rock after rock deeply in the wet sparkly sludge like sand. After a long hardworking 12 hours we were finally finished. As we waited anxiously day after day for rescue we finally received it. Fifteen days later a enormous smooth plane landed on the island. As the plane slowly lifted off the almond colored ground making a turbo noise, I felt that we all learned in any situation that we need to stick together to survive.
I recall in vivid detail the scenery around us as we embarked on our perilous journey down the Nantahala. We arrived at the drop-off point in the early afternoon the next day. The sweet smell of fresh pine trees was floating in the air and a soft midsummer breeze was brushing against our faces. After receiving directions and safety precautions from our rafting instructor, we geared up, boarded our raft, and set out for our voyage down the treacherous Nantahala. Sharing the experience with me were my mother, aunt, uncle, and cousin; along with out rafting guide. We were all ready for a fun and safe ride down the Nantahala.
There have been tons of things that I have learned and been taught in my life, by a number of people such as family, teachers, or even friends on occasion. The things they taught me vary from math and other related subjects to just some truly simple yet meaningful life lessons. However, there is nothing quite as unique, quite as special as a person teaching themselves a life lesson. It really is an amazing accomplishment for a person to teach themselves something. It is not quite as simple as another person teaching them something because it is not just the transferring of information from one person to another. The person instead has to start from scratch and process the information they have in their mind in order to come up with a new thought
3. Gear While not necessarily survival skills, tools, and gear are critical for survival. A sturdy serrated knife is the number one tool every survivalist should carry. It can be used to cut, fly, kill and

Imagine being stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in a lifeboat, not alone but with some carnivorous animals, as company. The chances of survival do not seem so high, but when one has the will to survive, they can do anything to attain it. Pi Patel and his family are on their way to Canada from Pondicherry, India, when their cargo ship the Tsimtsum sinks. Pi is not the only survivor of the ship, along with him is a hyena, an injured zebra, an orangutan and a 450-pound orange Bengal tiger. Pi travels across the Pacific Ocean in only a lifeboat, with food dwindling quickly, he needs to find land and most of all survive the voyage. In Life of Pi; Yann Martel develops the idea that having the will to survive is a crucial key to survival; this is demonstrated through symbolism of the colour orange, having religion on the protagonist’s side and the thirst and hunger experienced by the protagonist.
I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me.
