Mitty is one of those words I hear repeatedly on a regular day basis. Going to a Catholic school my whole life, I have been pushed towards private high schools. Above the other school options, Mitty is by far my first choice. Mitty has always been known to me as big in sports. Although there are sports that I would like to pursue in high school such as field hockey, after visiting the school for 7th grade day, shadowing, and open house, I discovered that Mitty has so much more to offer that I want to make part of my future. While shadowing Mitty, I was able to partake in a speech class. I have always heard the term speech and debate, but I never knew exactly what speech was. Participating in a class focusing on public speaking was remarkably
interesting and intriguing. The students who performed put on impressive acts while entertaining and educating. Debate has also always been something I want to take on, I have always said I want to go to law school even at a young age. Mitty has an impressive speech and debate program that I can see myself pursuing in High School. At St. Christopher I participate in our school's ecology club and I enjoy the responsibility of hosting meetings and raising awareness of the importance of ecology throughout our school. From visiting the school, I discovered many educational and welcoming clubs that I would be interested in joining. If i were to attend Mitty, I would enjoy participating in the Mitty Med club as I am interested in learning more about medicine and health care. Baking is also something I enjoy doing and the baking club would be an enjoyable and stress relieving club to join. Archbishop Mitty is somewhere I feel welcomed and comfortable visiting. It would be a dream to be apart of the class of 2022.
David McCullough Jr., delivered the commencement at Wellesley High School in Massachusetts on June 1st 2012 to staff, the 2012 graduates, and their family and friends. The speech was straightforward and supplied valuable information for their future. . McCullough’s speech at times felt harsh, offensive, and insulting. His words and examples were given to achieve insight, knowledge, and awareness for each student’s future. The commencement expressed a great deal of achievement, but conveyed that there was more work to be done. His speech was effective and appreciated through humor parallelism, repetition, and anaphora. His point of view has obtained respect and determination by all those that have been challenged and have heard his words.
“Do I have to go? I mean, it’s not required for me to finish high school or anything. It’s just something you want me to do,” I pleaded with my parents. “Yes you have to go and there’s no way you’re going to get out of it either. It’ll be a good experience for you, and you might even make some new friends,” my father replied. Tomorrow I was going to HOBY, which stands for Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar. It is specifically for sophomores in high school and I was chosen to be one of the candidates to represent my school for the year twenty fifteen. There are many HOBYs around the United States, but I was going to HOBY Ohio West located at the Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. The seminar started on June fourth and concluded on the seventh. This was a four day event and I wouldn’t see my family for two of the days. I had just turned sixteen in April and I had never stayed more than an hour away from my family for a night or two. It was very nerve-wracking for me, but I had to go no matter what. Little did I know that this experience would make me into the more confident young woman I am today.
As many people have told me before, it is a very different ballgame than middle school’s easy going years. There is much more work, the classes are harder, and the environment is completely different. Many people’s grades may slip and they may cower in fear at the barrage of assignments they receive class after class. Unlike other people, I am confident in my ability to excel at all classes and to sustain exemplary grades. Therefore, while many are trembling in fear at the prodigious assignments and work is bombarding them from all angles, I will be at ease, knowing that whatever obstacle is thrown my way, I will conquer it and be its own
About a week into my time at this new school the athletic director, Mr. Washington approched me. "Do you play any sports?" He asked. Although this seemed like a simple question, it made my nerves spike up. "Softball", I said in a low tone. His face lit up and he explained how they had one space open on the team, they needed
I was invited on a visit to the University of Central Missouri to discuss my future with playing softball there. Two weeks later I verbally committed to continue my softball career at UCM and I could not be more thankful or happy. Hard work goes unnoticed by those who have never had to work hard for something they truly love and are passionate about. Having gone through the path I did to get to where I am, has not only made be a better softball player but a better person. From my experiences, I have learned how to motivate people. I love to help people when they are down and don’t believe in their abilities. I know what it is like to be at the bottom, I know what it is like to have no one believe in you. Believe in yourself, exceed your limits, work harder than you ever thought you
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the time I ripped my pants in the 2nd grade.
After reviewing my speeches back to back, I realized that my public speaking skills have evolved dramatically. While I would like to have changes to my projects if I had the ability to time travel, but overall I am more than satisfied with my progression in public speaking. My level of listenability is still not flawless, but with some more practice and time I am confident that I could become a decent public speaker. Whether I will do anything as a public speaker is yet to be determined, but I do know that I walked into this class with the simple expectation to acquire my honor credits, but was fortunate enough to part with experience that will be applied to the rest of both my academic and occupational careers.
I’ve been very interested in attending Brebeuf Jesuit for about a year now. I was also eager to shadow the school and see my possible feature. When i shadowed Brebeuf I really loved how the scheduling worked and how friendly everyone was to make me feel welcomed, Including the school times. Brebeuf Jesuit high school is a good fit for me because my faith, my academic experience, and my extracurricular interests.
Recently, I have graduated Berks Catholic High School and prepared to take a first step for my future career. I have always had a strong interest in Science field, especially in Biology and Chemistry. This is related to one of the gifts I have; a curiosity.
From sixth grade to sophomore year, I attended Pinecrest institute, a catholic private school. Can you predict where this is going? After a few years I grew used to the persona I’d created for myself, I was on top of the social food chain with my friends, in this way, I was in power. Nevertheless, all who rise must fall to learn to lead with compassion in their awareness.
Following my end of my education at the Saint Marys Catholic Middle School, I was looking for a way to give back to the school that blessed me with so much knowledge over the past three years. One of my favorite teachers, Mrs. Bon, gave me that opportunity. She was the librarian at the middle school and needed help in organizing and doing inventory of the school library. I enjoyed assisting my former teacher in doing this. Through my hard work, I was able to give back to the Saint Marys Catholic Middle School.
It is just a manner of overcoming my fears to be able to put myself out there to speak at my fullest potential. I truly enjoy that my public speaking class has already enhanced my knowledge and ability to give great speeches. In this reflection of my public speaking class I shared my thoughts about the class, my strengths and weaknesses as a speaker, my speech I am most proud of, my speech that was the most difficult, and the areas I need to improve on. I know that with more experience and time spent in public speaking, the class will help me become a more skilled and professional public
Something like this should not happen. I dropped to my knees in tears realizing this is the one person who should love me unconditionally and does not. As a twelve-thirteen- year old girl the one thing you need most is your mom. This is the peak time in which life changes you forever, and this is the time mine abandoned me and left me with ten little words. These words ultimately shaped the person I am, and have helped me accomplish everything I have up to now.
“I knew this was bliss, knew it at the time.” These words of Eudora Welty, although expressing her feeling from devouring book after book, can also be applied to my life. While not relating to my literacy, Welty’s lexis nonetheless conveys my own feelings after learning the significance of hard work. I’ve put excess effort in performing the roles of a student, an athlete, and a Christian. Success and growth in each component of my life has taught me the value and necessity of a strong work ethic.
The purpose of this paper is to discuss a service that I got to attend that was different from my own religious tradition. I decided to go with my chosen topic because to be honest I had never experienced or thought to experience a different type of church service other than the one I grew up in. I grew up in a Christian home and attended a non-denominational Christian church on a regular basis. I just never felt the need to experience something that was different. So I decided to attend a mass at a Catholic church. I had been to weddings in a Catholic church and even funerals with a Catholic involvement but not an actual mass.
