First time out of the wire and on patrol but not with first platoon, First Sergeant moved me to second platoon just the day before. The night insertion that we conducted that night went without a hitch. The soldiers that were in my truck took turns throughout the night behind the weapons system which was an M-240B. At zero eight in the morning of the next day patrols started around the bazaar by the dismounted troops. I was coupled with the PL* and conducted familiarization patrols so that I could get eyes on the sector from the map that was issued to me the night we left. Starting off at the far limits of the sector we went to position E (east) and was instructed on what the sectors were as was the activities that had been conducted the previous …show more content…
In our sector they are notorious for attacking between the hours of fifteen hundred to eighteen hundred. At the eighteen hundred hour all was still quiet and everyone was beginning to think that there was not going to be an attack that day either. At eighteen hundred twenty hours the silence of the day was broken with the explosion of an RPG*from the west to the east. Insurgents fired small arms and rockets from an alley way toward SP 2*. Without hesitation the M-240B gunner opened up and gave an estimated distance and direction. Within seconds all positions were notified that SP 2 was being attacked and any position within shooting range of that point were engaging targets of opportunity. Within minutes the ANA were returning fire with RPG’s as well and lighting the area up with American issued 40MM grenades. At AP C all solders were on the roof looking west and shooting at the five insurgents that were shooting at SP 2. Volleys of US 40mm were shot from the roof tops of our building as well as SAW* and M-4’s. The fire fight lasted only a few minutes before the insurgents decided that they had enough of an ass beating for the time. After the shooting subsided a patrol was formed of American soldiers and ANA, to go into the villa that had just been shooting at our position. Weaving in and out of alley ways so as to gain the element of surprise on arrival, the

Between ten to fifteen Taliban found a ocation that abled them to set up from a distance and allowed them to fire from behind cover. During the ambush the Taliban fired AK-47s, RPGs (Rocket Propelled Grenades) and PKM machine guns. U. S. forces were able to successfully able to launch a counter-attack and get out of the “killzone”, only after two Americans were killed and five were wounded. The Taliban had a high ratio of tracer rounds compared to normal which created a wall of fire to the left of the platoon, Sgt. Brennan and Spc. Eckrode who were walking at the front of the single file formation were wounded in the initial attack. The rest of the squad members found cover within a couple of feet from where they had been standing and dropped to the ground so they could fire back effectively and controlled from their positions. Spc. Giunta began to direct his fire team while Staff Sgt. Gallardo tried to like with Sgt. Brennan and Spc. Eckrode. While Spc. Giunta was firing back he realized that the Taliban was in an “L” shaped position and direct two of his soldiers to the rear so that the enemy could not roll through their line from the right side. When Staff Sgt. Gallardo realized that he could
The insurgents had arrived in the neighboring villages of the camp deep in the night and started grouping together with the Nuristan militia men. Their first step involved evicting the civilians in the village on an impending attack on the Keating combat outpost. Following analysis showed that the villagers might not have moved out of the area during the attack. The attack started at dawn when the insurgent...
This book substantially explains the vigorous training platoon 3086 went through in order to earn the title of being a Marine.
Corporal Jones posted his description of the events on his blog which included that the operation took place on Pakistani territory, a detailed description of the entry route his unit used to travel into Pakistan, and he mentioned his commanding officer’s violation of military protocol, which may have led to the ambush and deaths of his fellow marines.
U.S. forces experienced terrible attacks on their positions that consisted of things such as mortar fire and rocket propelled grenade fire. The source of the attacks came from areas all around them. Insurgents attacked from moving vehicles, civilian houses and mosques. The U.S. forces were attacked intensely with small arms direct fire as well as grenades. The ...

Charlie Company of the US 1st Battalion, under the direct command of Captain Ernest Medina, landed after US artillery bombardment of the helicopter landing zone (LZ). The Platoon Leader and Platoon Sergeant turned a blind-eye to the problems in first squad and wanted to two NCO’s to resolve it themselves, which was a failure of leadership on their part. Staff Sergeant Patel was the leader of second squad he was also another NCO that had no combat and infantry experience. He was an NCO in the regular Navy, got out, and enlisted in the Army National Guard letting him maintain his previous Navy rank as there was no real break in service. He too was set to go to Fort Benning to the Infantry School along with SSG Wilcox which didn’t happen.
Leaving Alpha Company as Battalion reserve the remainder of the Battalion began movement up Hill 937. It wasn’t long before Bravo Company began receiving heavy machinegun and RPG attacks from a well-disciplined enemy force in fortified positions. The unit responded again with accurate airstrikes, mortar fire and napalm. American forces set up a hasty landing zone (LZ) to conduct resupply operations and bring in engineer assets. The helicopter inserting these assets was hit by heavy enemy fire and sustained seven casualties to include all engineer assets. The remainder of the day was relatively
It was not long before the Lieutenant heard him murmuring and mumbling his hate speech. I could see everyone make way for him a s he walked in the middle of the group. He stopped when I was face to face with Azar and knocked him right out. The punch was so strong; he collapsed smack-dab on the ground and chipped his left front tooth. You could hear the tooth chip when he fell down. When he fell, there was an instant movement of the platoon, letting Azar collapse on the stony, light- brown dirt. When Azar got up, the lieutenant got in his face and whispered “Try me again.” Holding his jaw, Azar walked back to the back of the
On February 21, 2016, I, Deputy John Arnold, went to 11747 West 105th Street South to assist another deputy in reference to a fight in progress.
We have been firing shells for a week alongside the british forces. Each of us have different roles. One person mans the heavy machine gun in groups of three, while others are armed with our infantry rifles, and others will be given the specific task of grenade throwing. We started digging tunnels to get our troops there safely. The plan was supposed to carry
It all started when Ms. McCrystal began a lesson on how evolutionary changes impacted the lives of other organisms. Allie knew something interesting was going to happen, because Ms. McCrystal was the most engaging teacher on team 8-1. The very next day Ms. McCrystal had all of her Students do an assignment on the five fingers of evolution. Then she announced that the class was going on a class trip to the science museum.
