am twenty three years old i live with my mom, dad and three brothers in north carolina we have been in this colony for four months my dad and brothers and i are all assassins i'm the youngest brother although i dropped out of school when i was around sixteen, my family is fairly wealthy and we have plenty of resources to provide for ourselves however the loyalists are trying to get great britain to take full control of our colonies and raise taxes and govern us from all they way over in britain, but us patriots are not going to let that happen, we don't want to pay taxes that don't go to bettering our homeland, we will eliminate all of the red coats as well as any loyalist who share their beliefs.Today the british came to collect taxes and
“Where is the money to come from which will defray this enormous annual expense of three million sterling, and all those other debts.” Charles Inglis questions his audience in regards to paying for a revolution against Britain. Imagine you are a colonist one year after the revolution against Britain has begun. Would you agree or disagree with loyalist Inglis?
...no loyalty to the Crown now, in future conflicts, the colonists may turn against us and become our enemy. Radical action must be taken in order to regulate their behavior. They must recognize the royal authority.
The patriots are being not ready to govern themselves because of many reasons. According to document 2 (A Loyalist is Tarred and Feathered (1774)) a poor elderly man named Malcolm was violently hit by a group of people. A group of people tarred and feathered the poor old man. They dislocated his arm an...
The task of conquering all the colonies was almost an impossible task for the British soldiers. This is because the enormous geographical size of the colonies made it impossible for the British forces to inhabit the countryside. The failure of the British forces to control the countryside made it impossible for them to protect the loyalist from patriots (Mintz & McNeil, 2013). The patriots tarred and feathered and even killed those who were loyal to the crown.
If I were put in the similar predicament of the American colonists, I believe that I would have agreed and sided with the radicals, also known as Patriots. The King forced the colonists to pay for the costs of the French/Indian War, as well as any war that the British participated in. Pair that with the bad policies passed by the British, that is a recipe for disaster and
The conflict between Benjamin Franklin and his only living son is a microcosm of the little-understood clash between those Americans who strived for independence from British occupation and those that felt the country was either not or never would be ready for self-governance. Benjamin Franklin felt strongly enough about his son’s actions to label them betrayal; William Franklin felt strongly enough about the foolhardiness of the Revolution to suffer his father’s wrath. The actions of the loyalists are understood by Americans to constitute treason, but this is a simplification. Many loyalists felt that r...
“Give me liberty or give me death!” This statement from Patrick Henry’s “Speech to the Virginia Convention,” delivered to the House of Burgesses, has been quoted by many, becoming almost cliché. However, the declaration is truly understood by a select few. The unjust Stamp Act passed by the British crown in 1765, brought fame and notoriety to Henry as he spoke out against the unjust taxation without representation. Ten years later on the eve of revolution, Henry calls upon the Colonial government of which he is part, to act for the betterment of the people. Patrick Henry attempts to persuade the House of Burgesses to revolt and declare war against Britain by logically convincing them that it is their natural right to be free and calling on their patriotism and pride as leaders of colonial America.
Every person has an American Dream they want to pursue, achieve and live. Many people write down goals for themselves in order to get to their dream. Those never ending goals can range from academic to personal. As of today, I am living my dream. My American Dream is to become a nurse, travel to many places, have a family, and get more involved with God.
For over a century Great Britain had ruled the colonies in America. Since the founding of the Chesapeake Bay colony in the south in 1607, and the Massachusetts Bay colony in the north in 1630, the colonies had relied on the crown for many of their needs. Over time the colonists established a social and economical system that was almost independent of the British Empire. In April of 1775, after many transgressions on both sides, the colonists decided that they no longer needed, or wanted the support, protection, and leadership of the country that founded them. There were many factors, both immediate, and longstanding that lead to the decision to fight for freedom from British rule.
Over sixty days have passed since I left with the others from my homeland on the Mayflower, sailing along the Atlantic passageway in search of new beginnings. The journey at sea was treacherous, but not deathly, though our morale was quite shaken from the storms. The ship’s main hull was breached, but thankfully the ship remained intact for the rest of the course with just a few temporary repairs. Originally, we were headed to dock in Virginia with the other settlers, but the gales and squalls of the sea have steered our path elsewhere north amidst the land. Just shortly after we landed shore, a team was dispatched to explore where they named the area Plymouth Rock, just west of Cape Cod Bay. And now, the others and I have stepped foot on a sandy beach in this part of the New World, ready to form a fresh start.
I was fifteen when it all began; the laughing, taunting, teasing, the confusion. It wasn’t always like this. I used to be happy.
The Movie, The Patriot, was a rousing and vigorous Revolutionary War epic from the view point of a family full of revenge and strong wills. This movie began with the majority of colonists angered. This part of the movie caught my attention and intrigued me to keep watching until the last minute. I especially enjoyed the heartbreaking moments and the realistic war scenes in the movie. Although I liked those aspects of the movie, the storyline was exceptionally good as well. To understand this historical fiction movie, a historical background is needed. If a person does not understand what is meant by “Taxation without representation,” then the subject of conflict will not be understood. The plot of the movie began to develop when Benjamin Martin’s son, Gabriel, was captured by British troops. Benjamin Martin was a former hero of the French and Indian War, but he renounced fighting so that he would be able to raise his family in peace. Attempting to save his brother, Benjamin’s other son stood up to the British soldiers, but was killed in the process. Benjamin, only wanting to save Gabriel, ended up fighting in battle, rescuing Gabriel, and killing the murderer of his other son. After all of this happened Benjamin realized the importance of being involved in the war, so he sent his other children to live with their aunt in order for he and Gabriel to join the army. Once they became part of the army, Benjamin became a general and lead his colonial militia, including Gabriel, into trifling battles. During battle Gabriel was killed, which deeply depressed Benjamin and made him so distraught that he does not feel like fighting anymore. His feelings stayed this way until (while at the camp) he saw the Brit that killed Gabriel. Benjamin then killed that man and understood at that moment why so many men had been dieing. Because of this, Benjamin became extremely patriotic and decided to move on with the Americans because he then had something to fight for. Everything that happened kept me on the edge of my chair wanting to know what was going to happen next. Overall, I thought that this movie was very moving and vigorous.
I live in a tribe of Native Americans who are located at the bottom of the Andes Mountains in the Peru area. Our village faces the ocean which is beautiful at sunset when the sun can be seen disappearing under the water. The orange red glow of the sun reflects off of the dark yet clear blue of the sea. There is a hidden place, even though people only find on accident, that has the best view of the breathtaking ocean. I love that place cause few people find it and if they do the despise it immediately. I call this place my special place because the colorful plants and trees are soothing. The green grass tickles my toes when I stand and cushions my back when I lay down. This place is my go to hill whenever I receive my daily temper.
It was about two years ago when I arrived in United States of America, and I still remember the day when I left my native country, Honduras. As I recall, one day previous to my departure, I visited my relatives who live in San Pedro Sula. They were all very happy for me to see me except my grandmother Isabel. She looked sad; even though she tried to smile at all times when I was talking to her, I knew that deep inside of her, her heart was broken because of my departure the next morning. I remember that I even told her, “Grandma, do not worry about me, I’ll be fine. I promise that I will write you letters and send you pictures as much as possible.” Here reply was, “I know sweetie I know you will.” Suddenly after she said that I started to cry. For som...
