Eleanor Roosevelt once said "The future belongs to those who beleive in the beauty of their dreams." To me, that is the quintensential meaning of perseverance. What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also the ruler whereby one can measure of success. or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success. As students it is impossible to achieve personal success without having goals or directions. The goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed. Michael Jordan is thought by many to be the greatest basketball player of all times. But even Jordan's success did not come with out obstacles. Jordan failed to make his highschool basketball team, but he did not quit. His temporary defeat fueled his desire to practice and practice. Because of his commitment and determination, he propelled himself to the top of his game and ultimately to the top of the game.
Like Jordan and others who have achieved great personal success, we as students must realize that now is the time for us to begin to demand of ourselves the discipline necessary to achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves despite difficulties that may arise. This year has not been as easy one for us as a school body. We have been attacked by the local media, who have compared us to "rotten apples" It is at times like this that we need to understand how to go on in spite of obstacles that continually present themselves as a barrier between us and our goals. It is at times like this that we need to understand the essence of "why" we should go on. Success ...

... ask of ourselves, we mst know that in order to achieve our goals that we must keep the end in mind. Keeping the end in mind gives us the will to overcome those setbacks that are alwas before us.
In life we are faced with many challenges. These challenges often test who we are and what we are made of on the inside. As a student body we have been metaphorically defined as "the rotten apples" of the Wayne County School System; that is not who we are. We are achievers. If we face minor setbacks as we climb to the zenith of the mountain. We will not look at as defeat. Let us hold dear to the sentiment of the late great Helen Keller who said "Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. Remember no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost. Sometime, somewhere, somehow we shall find that which we seek."
“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all. Dale Carnegie believed that perseverance could overcome even the harshest obstacles. Perseverance is inspired by a purpose, an unsatisfied drive to achieve a goal. During a cataclysmic event, only people with a purpose endure.
As many people have told me before, it is a very different ballgame than middle school’s easy going years. There is much more work, the classes are harder, and the environment is completely different. Many people’s grades may slip and they may cower in fear at the barrage of assignments they receive class after class. Unlike other people, I am confident in my ability to excel at all classes and to sustain exemplary grades. Therefore, while many are trembling in fear at the prodigious assignments and work is bombarding them from all angles, I will be at ease, knowing that whatever obstacle is thrown my way, I will conquer it and be its own
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines perseverance as the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. In today’s society, there are so many walls and barriers that prevent humans from achieving their dreams and goals and people begin giving up. However, great poets such as Homer and famous music groups such as Mumford and Sons have used the strife of humanity to compose works that can be used to inspire and institute hope for humanity. With perseverance, there are three key aspects, struggle, loyalty, and strength. The struggle is what allows humans to learn, grow, and better themselves, the loyalty demonstrated provides motivation for success, and the personal strength allows the person to build
Imagine turning into someone unrecognizable and watching as your life rips apart, a life that you worked so hard for, because all hope is lost. You have hit the bottom of “the well of life”, and deep inside this “well of life” you understand it’s all because of students.
Ultimately, what is at stake here is the fact that parents are making excuses for students who do not want to work hard in school or are not able to handle it, therefore, parents need to stop making excuses for adults and let them decide their paths in life. If parents stop excusing their kids, then teachers can continue the challenging work for student resilience to increase. College is a privilege, not every child in the world can experience and no one said it would be easy, but no one said it was acceptable to hold each student’s hand for the ride
Perseverance is defined as steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. This defines Sugar Ray Robinson. Sugar Ray Robinson was just a normal colored boy. He was born and raised in the South. He had a rough early life, due to the KKK, parents fighting, moving, pretty much everything that could’ve gone wrong went wrong. Then, he got involved in Boxing. He was good, and I mean good. He was so good in fact, he became known as one of, if not, the greatest boxer in history.
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
I concluded my 8th grade year with 9 a's and 5 b's, contrarily my 9th grade report card included 5 f's and 3 d's. "Your mistakes do not define who you are, you are your possibilities." - Oprah Winfrey. This quote reflects my high school journey because though I've made innumerable mistakes throughout high school thus far, and continue to make mistakes by not prioritizing my education, I refuse to give up and I will not let my mistakes make me.
Being Marefat's first graduating class to complete all four years, one can say we've acquired a higher level of school wisdom than any previous class. We've formed traditions, we've set records, and we've made a lot of friends along the way. I remember our freshman year when we could use the excuse of being a new school for every shortcoming we encountered. I remember our sophomore year, the last time I cleaned my bedroom, when Marefat had its first senior class, and the school seemed to shrink for some reason. Last year we were the juniors, and we conquered the SAT tests: And made it through those busy days where you hadn't quite found room in your schedule to pencil in a bathroom break, dinner or sleep. Well, this year we were the kings and queens, there was Star Wars, Starbucks, and a certain football team lost its winning streak to the mighty Knights. Looking back we can see our accomplishments and the marks we made. Now, we must take all that we have learned in our years at Marefat and apply it to our future. Just as we have set traditions here, we must enter the world ready to tackle new problems and work out new solutions. We are the ones who can break all of those records that have been set, and have our names etched in history. It's our turn -- the world is ours and we just have to decide what we want to do with it.
Perseverance is a tremendous part of my character; As a result, it motivates me to try and reach my goals. Every time I have a new goal, I aim high and work towards achieving it. This trait of my character identifies my personality, and I’m convinced that I would not have accomplished everything I have without it.
Let’s flash back in time to before our college days. Back to then we had lunch trays filled with rubbery chicken nuggets, stale pizza, and bags of chocolate milk. A backpack stacked with Lisa Frank note books, flexi rulers, and color changing pencils. The times where we thought we wouldn’t make it out alive, but we did. Through all the trials and tribulations school helped build who I am today and shaped my future. From basic functions all the way to life-long lessons that helped shape my character.
Welcome friends, peers, teachers, and parents. We are finally graduating! It has been a long four years since I first stepped in to these halls as a freshman, but yet I can’t help but feel its only been a short time in my life. Today I had two jobs to do, that’s it. The first one was to show up to this event, consider it done. The second was to give a memorable speech on perseverance and just what it means to me. So it is with that intro that i begin my speech. The dictionary defines perseverance as a steady effort to maintain a course of action, purpose, or belief, often in spite of difficulty. So it is today that I ask you what does perseverance mean to you? Each one of you has faced many difficulties throughout your lives, and this is only the just the beginning. Each and every one of us has at some point needed perseverance, and we will continue to need it in the future. When I hear the word perseverance two things come into mind, my efe class and college.
Perseverance is steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Correctional environments take their toll on all who pass through the
Imagine it is one’s first day in high school. Standing in front befalls the entrance way to your new future, thinking of what lies ahead from the perspective of a middle school grad. One would perhaps have mixed emotions as to what to expect. Observing the new students around the corridors, it transpires as if they are dragging their feet to progress inside, for the reason that they are fresh from the blissful summer days; they are in exchange, yet again, to the reality of school homework, projects, reports and tests. Some have queries and doubts in their minds; what does one expect of themselves getting into a high school life such as this? “What remains in store for me, I wonder…” “This school year is going to be subsequently much tougher
For the past 13 years of our education we have been on a journey - a journey full of experiences, challenges and accomplishments. We have made it through elementary, middle and high school. It hasn't always been what we expected and certainly not easy, but as we progressed down the road, we stretched ourselves to reach across barriers and found ourselves in new and expanding roles. We were given the opportunity to explore our interests and discover what really excites us. We have become more independent and complete individuals. Our growth and self-discovery has placed us here tonight.
