“Performance-enhancing drugs (PED) are substances that are used to improve any form of activity performance in humans (Wikipedia October 5, 2017)”. Wikipedia goes on to explain that these types of drugs are not acceptable in sports because athletes would use it excessively for greater performance in sports. Athletes aren’t the only ones who use PEDs, students and military members would use it to get better grades in school and execute better on the battle field (Wikipedia, 2017). There many different types of PEDs such as pain killers, nootropics, anabolic and stimulants (Wikipedia,2017). Painkillers are used my professional sports players and can range from over-the-counter to a prescription drug, this type of drug causes athletes to perform well through pains (Wikipedia, 2017). Anabolic drugs that build up muscles in either male or female and is commonly known as human growth hormones (Wikipedia, 2017) Nootropics is used to retain memory and stimulants are substances that will keep you awake, focus and alert such as caffeine (Wikipedia, 2017). According to the Rasmussen college website, “roughly 3.2 percent of American high school kids, boys and girls, took steroid pills or shots without a doctor’s permission at least once in their lives, according to the U.S. Department of Health’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey published in June 2012”. Professional sports players set the trend for teenagers in high school, they look up to these athletes and want to be like them (Rasmussen College, 2013).
