Behold my true prize possession when I was on vacation this year. The item I am going to show you today is a shell from Saint Lucia. Last summer, my family and I took a trip to Saint Lucia for a week. I played at the beach, swam in the pool, enjoyed the food and scenic beauty, and went shell hunting. When the sun was at its highest point in the sky, my brothers and I would go shellfishing. The crystal clear ocean made it so much easier for the shells to show its true beauty. I picked one up and threw it away because it was hideous. Not that one, oooh definitely not that one. But there it was, the most perfect seashell I have ever encountered. It is your normal old and traditional seashell that you would find on the beach but so much
more. It was snowy white, with coffee colored tints reaching to the top of the shell. The texture was hard and firm at the touch of the hand. The shell smelled like what a beach provides such as, the waves, the sand, the salty sea, and the fresh air. However, the only downside about this beautiful shell was the little chip on the top. Besides the little chip, it is the most beautiful shell I have ever found and I will cherish it forever.
Seaworld is a giant marine life theme park. The greatest attraction to these many theme park would be those killer whales. In fact, these killer whales are the face of the park. As gigant as these mammals are, seaworld is keeping them in some pretty tight quarters. Mr. Jett and Mr.Ventre says “Wild killer whales can swim a hundred miles daily as they socialize, forage, communicate, and breed. In stark contrast, with little horizontal or vertical space in their enclosures, captive orcas swim only limited distances, with most spending many hours surface resting.” The animals don't have the freedom they need. Also when taking the whales out of their natural habit the whales tend to be depressed and not as heath in that situation. They need their freedom in the big ocean blue. Bring them into the small living units, breeding whales in captivity all for the entertainment of humans. At young ages the calves are taken away from their mothers on to a new seaworld park. Mothers of the calves have even been seen denying their offspring.
It all began with good intentions. People thinking that they can control these animals and not expect any negative impacts. It was all due to wanting to explore and entertain with the animals. However, not all animals are meant to be taken from the wild to be show animals. After many years of unfair ways, SeaWorld is doing the right thing by closing down the whale exhibit even if it isn’t by choice because it is unhealthy for both the humans and animals involved.
My grandparents had set this whole trip up and had originally planned on joining us on this vacation. Sadly, my grandmother got diagnosed with cancer a few months before we were going. She wouldn’t be able to stay with us for a week and risk anything happening. My grandmother gave me one of those I-hope-you-have-a-good-time-but-I-wish-I-was-going-with-you looks. Even though they couldn’t be with us right on the beach, we decided to bring some of it with us! We took plastic bags to the beach one day and put sand and shells in them to take back to my grandparents. Of course, many other souvenirs were bought for them as well, including a can of sun from the Shell Factory which was a really bright idea! I really wish they would’ve come to experience everything my family had done, but we are hoping once she gets better and cancer-free, we are going to go back with
The story Sea Oak written by George Saunders is a compelling story about a male stripper, his aunt, sisters and their babies, who resides in a dangerous neighborhood. I’m applying to SEA Semester, because I love the ocean. It’s been my dream from a young age to learn to sail and live on a ship. I’m from Aroostook County in Northern Maine, which is five hours away from the ocean. Every summer my parents would make sure I got to the ocean at least once, and I’ve romanticized it since I can remember. Since coming to Bowdoin, I’ve always spent my weekends biking and driving to the ocean, because it’s become a place for me to think clearly and escape the fast-paced life of a college student. The ocean has developed into my happy place, which is why I want to study it and understand how humans are impacting it. I want my undergraduate studies to give me the knowledge needed to protect our oceans in the future, and to be able to conduct research to expand our knowledge of the ocean. To be able to live on a tall ship and continue my studies of the ocean is my dream.
The movie that shocked thousands of Americans with the secrets of SeaWorld became one of the most talked about movies of its century. Blackfish came out in July of 2013 with shocking evidence of the mistreatment of Orcas, also known as killer whales, and the dangers imposed on the whale trainers. The movie had several strategies to appeal to its audience. These strategies included the three pillars of writing; logos, ethos, and pathos. Although the overall theme of Blackfish was to inform the viewers of the treatment Seaworld imposes on Orcas, the fundamentals of the movie actively used the three pillars; ethos, logos, and pathos to effectively catch the attention of the viewers and keep them drawn into the movie; the most prominent pillar was pathos followed
Broward County, Florida hosts the beautiful beaches of the Florida east coast. Seemingly endless miles of sand stretch to offer relaxation and recreation. After mile upon mile of public beach, the town of Sea Ranch Lakes boasts two acres of private beachfront property.
The ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) is also known as the common clownfish or false percula clownfish, and was named by Georges Cuvier in 1830. It belongs to the Amphiprion genus, which consists of 29 extant species. However, the subfamily Amphiprioninae also contains another genus, Premnas, which has a single member. They are closely related to damselfishes with which they create the Pomacentridae family. The ocellaris clownfish is oftentimes confused with A. percula, the orange clownfish, which is similar in colour and pattern, but has thicker black outlines, less dorsal spines.
Every summer my family and I go to our house in the cape just north of Boston. One hot summer morning, I was leaving the house to meet my family at the beach, suddenly I remembered my mother asked me to pick up a jar of “Kingfish Herring” for her and her friend to snack on at the beach.
In this text I’m going to explain about how Red and Seabiscuit transcended their ''underdog'' label, and how Jason McElwain seized ''his'' moment. I’m going to link both stories and the underdog definition to a personal event in my life.
Everyone enjoys watching cartoons on television, but not many people think about the voice actors behind their favorite characters. Tom Kenny is one of these voice actors, most well known as the voice of Spongebob Squarepants. Outside of Spongebob, I wanted to see what his hobbies are, what’s his favorite color, how tall he is, and so on. Today, we are shifting the focus from the stars to the person behind many of the comedies we all love.
Can you imagine yourself living in a room the size of a bathtub for the rest of your life?
The class Scyphozoa has about 200 species of jellies, with a wide distribution. “True Jellyfish” have a diverse range of habitats; we can find them in salty estuaries, bays; the pelagic zone of the ocean and the abyssal depths of the ocean. Pelagic Cnidarians are found in the pelagic zone of the ocean. The term “Pelagic” literally defines to, open ocean. Scyphozoan jellyfish are keystone species, being a primary and important predator within their marine ecosystems. They have been a key species in their ecosystems throughout the Phanerozoic Period and also since the middle of the Cambrian Period, which is when fossils of major animal groups first appeared. (Hagadorn et al. 2002; Cartwright et al. 2007; Hagadorn and Belt 2008 cited by Dawson) An ancient origin of the aggregated phenomenon of scyphomedusae as been retrieved from marine fossil deposits dating back to the late Cambrian period Hagadorn et al. 2002 cited by Dawson). Scyphozoans have become more commonly criticized as an ”annoying” species, forming countless problems worldwide. Aggregations and swarms of Scyphozoan jellyfish can negatively affect important aquacultures and injure swimming bystanders. On the morning of April 15th, 1912, the Royal Mail Ship Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean after colliding with an iceberg from the voyage from the United Kingdom to Ney York City. More than 1,500 people died because of the wreck and it is considered the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in modern history. At the time, the Titanic was the largest ship afloat and was the second of three Olympic class ocean liners that was operated by the White Star Line and build by Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. On the voyage during the wreck, it carried 2,224 passengers and crew. Edward Smith was in command of the ship’s passengers that included some of the wealthiest persons
I got dazzled once again by the beauty of St. Martin. St. Martin is undoubted a special place for vacation and one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Among all the places I have visited, it is the most unique. If anybody asks me about a vacation spot, the first thing that comes up in my mind is St. Martin. This is not for it is in my country but for its explicit natural beauty, social environment and the facilities available there.
