Firstly, pediatric nurses interact with young patients, maybe it is easier to take care than older patients who are more demanding. Secondly, many options are chosen, for instance, where to work or the types of patients. Pediatric nurses can work in hospitals, schools, doctor’s office and clinics. They can work with a specific category of patient, or in intensive care units and care for critically ill children or in emergency rooms, etc.
The last but not least, pediatric nurses can work any shifts which allow them to take care of their family, or enroll in additional college courses or enjoy their personal interests. However, pediatric nurses also face a lot of disadvantages. First of all, the difficulties in communication with children because they are too young and often frightened when seeing a doctor. Pediatric nurses must learn how to communicate with them in a way that alleviates their fears. Second, sometimes these young patients refuse to cooperate with the treatments and medications prescribed by doctors. Pediatric nurses have to encourage or force patients to accept treatment. Third, it can be distressing to see what a young patient has to suffer multiple surgeries, frightening treatments, painful symptoms, or even to watch the patients pass away. Pediatric nurses must also witness the fear, sadness and emotional pain of children parents and other family members. Third, parents often feel angry and helpless when their children are ill. they can contribute to their child's recovery. Some of my personality strengths that match this career are friendly, patient and sincere. Besides, I am quite sensitive and acutely aware of people’s feelings and reactions. I am willing to help people and love to work social activities. And pediatric nursing career does really match my interest. In order to make this career a reality, I have to make myself a great effort. It is really a big challenge for me because I am not good at science subjects. I need to practice more and try to get good results to transfer to Sam Houston State University. When people think of a pediatric nurse practitioner, they normally think of a person who performs examinations, takes blood samples, and measures vital signs of children who are sick. A child growth and developmental levels affect how you create patient-centered care in hospitals. A toddler’s developmental level allows them to perform simple motor activities such as dressing and feeding themselves. More complicated activities are developed later in life.
