Peaceful Pond
My Pond an escape, a release, an excursion from normal day to day activities. The Pond is no more than 3/10ths by 1/10th of a mile in dimensions. It is set back among luscious green and yellow pine and maple trees and surrounded by regularly mowed green grass. The mixes of green shades are similar to a young child's drawing using 5 different bright green and yellow markers. You can spend many hours simply thinking on top of a rock protruding from the ground towards the east side of the Pond. A thinking rock, as you could sit next to the pond for as long as you can remember.
The rock is about 5 feet tall off the ground and about 20 feet in circumference around the base. The top of the rock is leveled, forming a level bench. This flat bench has provided a good seat over the years allowing you to peer out across the Pond. You could look around yourself and ponder the questions of life and become fascinated with everything around you as well as listen to the sounds of nature. I hear many sounds; the ribbit of a dirty-green plump frog hidden amongst the underbrush, chirps of birds high in the sky, and the soft wind as it rustles leaves on the trees. The most amazing scene you can witness many times along this pond is the ducks. Every few days, you can see a family of ducks traveling across the green grass. The smallest duck, no more than 4 inches tall, would march proudly near the end of the pack.
You see sparse, thin clumps of down over his otherwise bare self as he bellows, with his newborn duckling voice, a high pitched quack. As your eyes follow the family towards the frond of the line, the elder ducks appear covered with stiffened slick feathers. Being the more grown and mature ducks in this family, their quacks are extremely sharp and given off in a shrill loud pitched voice.
"We stood by a pond that winter day," (1) This line indicates a still quietness, with lack of the movement of life. There is a vast difference in appearance and movement around a pond in winter and a pond in the midst of summer. This indicates no leaves, and no visible signs of life. The poet is painting a stark and lifeless scene.
Throughout history, the organizational landscape has been highly competitive. Effective leadership aligned with the core corporate strategy can serve as a powerful lever to achieve success in a fast paced business environment. We have seen great leaders taking their businesses to new heights. They knew how to build great companies while treating their employees well, how to improve or change dysfunctional corporate cultures, reinvigorating tired brands and develop new strategic plans. Others proved themselves difficult to work for, stubborn and even out-of-touch. The following report analyzes the leadership of Robert Nardelli who is the chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chrysler.
With the bloody path he had made for himself, his fall from power was inevitable. Macbeth’s bloody actions ended with him having to fear for his own life, as thousands in Scotland wanted him dead. Macbeth was aware that his evil deeds would lead to people wanting revenge. However, he did not fear these people, as he fell for the deceptive words of the witches. The three witches told him to be bold and fearless, that no man born of a woman could defeat him, and that he will never be defeated until the trees of Great Birnam Wood attack Dunsinane. Macbeth saw both of these things as impossible, so he did little to protect his castle. He was surprised when he was told that the forest was indeed attacking his castle, which was actually Macduff’s army carrying branches as a means of camouflage. His true anagnorisis came during his battle with Macduff, where Macduff revealed he was not born of woman, rather he was ripped form his mother’s womb, implying a Caesarean section. In this moment Macbeth was enlightened about his vulnerability. Macduff goes on to behead Macbeth, ensuring that his own family did not die in vain. With his death, Macbeth solidifies himself as a tragic hero. The audience learns the dangers of ambition, and good is reestablished.
This event alone begins the fall of Macbeth from a position of an honorable and noble man to one that is greedy for power. In the result of this event, not only was the family is affected, but all of Scotland as well since now their leader has been killed. In the events following, Macbeth then turns on Banquo ordering murders to kill him and his son so that no one outside his family will obtain the throne after him, still exhibiting his greed. After the wake of Duncan and Banquo people are now beginning to think that Fleance, son of Banquo, is behind the deaths not Macbeth. In the ending result Macbeth further shows noble stature when his actions led to his death by Macduff causing Macduff to become the king of Scotland, the role that Macbeth so treasured. Therefore, Macbeth shows Noble Stature throughout the play when his actions lead to not only his fall from an honorable man, but a now dead man who affected others’ lives. Macbeth is a tragic hero indeed when it comes to noble stature, but he also shows many characteristics of a tragic flaw.
What is a tragic hero? Aristotle once said that a tragic hero is a man “who is not eminently good and just, whose misfortune is brought about not by vice or depravity, but by some error or frailty.” A tragic hero is a man who is not predominantly evil, but rather has evil forced upon them, has evil whispered into his ear and like an itch on one’s nose, it has to be scratched. A tragic hero is a hero who, although is virtuous and morally upright, possesses a fatal flaw - a flaw or ideology that eventually leads to a character’s downfall. The most tragic of these heroes however, is the moonstruck king of Scotland, the maltreated Macbeth.
Sergio Marchionne was successful at changing the culture of Chrysler. He was involved; he reinforced innovation and focused on customer satisfaction. He chose a management team with the ability to handle extreme responsibility and gave them the authority to make important decisions. By doing this he cut through the bureaucracy that can sometimes slow down the process of making important business decisions.
The Gold rush of 1849 had a huge impact on American society at the time because it created jobs for people from all over the country. People from all over the world came to mine gold. Financially the Gold rush had an enormous impact on society, since gold was worth a significant amount of money at the time. Although the actual work of mining gold was not good. Many people lacked in hygiene and suffered from depression, disease, and broken bones. A majority of the prospectors came from the eastern United States and included a large continent of merchant confederates. Gold rushes not only had effects of the economy but on the land as well.
Due to his loyalty on the battlefield, he has earned titles such as Thane of Glamis and later, Thane of Cawdor. The King of Scotland, speaks high of Macbeth, unaware of the murderous schemes to come performed by Macbeth. He is notified of his succession to the throne by the witches, and with the provoking help of Lady Macbeth, he is lead to a violent path to the throne. Due to being a tragic hero, Macbeth suffers from numerous tragic flaws. His ambitious characteristics are a huge tragic flaw that helps him do whatever is possible to obtain the throne. Lady Macbeth, is also one of Macbeth’s flaws. He is easily manipulated and provoked by Lady Macbeth, his wife, to commit murder to gain power. These two factors led the character of Macbeth into tragedy. Due to persuasion and ambition, he is led into committing murder, thus sparking his downfall. After the murder, he is crowned King of Scotland, which leads to extreme paranoia of anyone who is in succession behind him. His paranoia leads to the death of four other characters. Macbeth then visited the witches to be informed that no man born of a woman could defeat him. Unaware that Macduff’s birth was a Caesarean section, Macbeth is killed by Macduff. His death allows the audience to see the full cycle of a tragic hero. Macbeth exhibits all of the characteristics of a tragic hero by his ambitions leading to tragedies to which lead to his greatest downfall,
Marchionne did not believe in this assumption and did not allow it to continue to influence business decisions at Chrysler. Marchionne began establishing a new corporate culture with a top-down approach to reorganizing the management with a focus on decision-making capabilities (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). Just as he did when he took over Fiat, Marchionne began to identify management with ingrained basic assumptions that contradicted his values, terminated their employment and replaced them with employees he identified as having great potential (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013; Marchionne,
64). If this had not taken place, the company’s future would have remained grim. Many negative decisions had been made by the previous management, which cost the company an immense amount of money, and this stood in the company’s way of being profitable. It did not take Mr. Marchionne long to notice the negative impacts on the company. Mr. Marchionne and his team were able to achieve sustainability because the managers he put in place successfully motivated the organization. This is why Mr. Marchionne cleaned house per say, but it is the reason why “Chrysler’s restoration has been admirably methodical” too (Debord, 2011, para. 10). The team he created by using the proper PE fit, understood the organization’s “footprint,” and it continues to do so today in the same manner (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, 2014, para. 1). Chrysler’s footprint is the overall environmental and social costs which Mr. Marchionne undoubtedly understands (Lueneburger, 2014). Sustainability was reached due to his leadership style of allowing those under him to make decisions and be accountable for such decisions (Sergio Marchionne (CEO Fiat and Chrysler), 2011). He encouraged his handpicked managers to take risks and think outside of the box (Kreitner & Kinicki,

There are various different sleep disorders. The most common sleep disorder is insomnia. A person suffering with insomnia struggles in one of the following areas of sleep: falling asleep, staying asleep throughout the night, or not being able to fall back asleep after waking. People with insomnia can feel lethargic and not alert because it prevents them from achieving restorative sleep. Possible causes for insomnia include physical illness, emotional issues such as stress, anxiety or depression, and substance abuse. Going to bed stressed out with worries and concerns on your mind can also lead to insomnia. When one worries, the body becomes aroused and that can disrupt normal sleep. Also, thinking you must get a full night’s sleep can raise one’s anxiety level, which makes it more difficult to fall asleep. One remedy for insomnia is to not try too “force” sleep. A potential remedy for insomnia is to engage in cognitive-behavioral techniques that focus on changing problem sleep habits.
Secondary insomnia, which is chronic insomnia where one feels unrefreshed and it takes a toll on the ability to work and do daily functions and or tasks...
A plopping sound echoes as a bass breaks the peaceful and statue still water, forming a ripple in a perfect circle. A few white pelicans are attracted by the disturbance and levitate above in search of their prey. As I lay beneath the willowing Cypress I notice the tangled undergrowth and vines make the lake appear darker. A dragonfly lands on my finger; I lift my head in wonder to see it’s metallic blue flutter. I am sad and know my parents are worried where I have gone.
Although Macbeth is considered the tragic hero in the play, he has many noble qualities. Macbeth is courageous and brave, as he is the leader of Duncan’s army. Being a general of an army must have strength and powers. Shakespeare describes Macbeth as brave when he says, "for brave Macbeth-well he deserves that name" (I.II.16). Also, Macbeth is of great stature and is the Thane of Glamis who will soon take the reign as the Thane of Cawdor as well. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth is a noble man who is truly loyal to King Duncan. “What he hath lost, noble Macbeth hath won” (I.II....
