Ever since its start in 1973, Patagonia has always been on the right track of corporate social responsibility. Patagonia took corporate social responsibility to a whole other level within their supply chain which complied with human rights and environmental issues at a global scale. It started by partnering with factories they thought shared the same value and beliefs Patagonia held: “you can’t make good products in a bad factory.” Ever since Patagonia has improved in exercising their belief on how to do business. In the beginning of the 1990’s Patagonia began to see if they were actually exercising their beliefs by visiting factories they held contracts with, based on whether the factory was compliant with a visit along with their actual visit …show more content…
Then in 1996, switched to using organically grown cotton. The company even began to construct wet suits made from renewable bio-rubber unpatented to allow other companies to follow its steps in environmental responsibility. The entire company put its entire line of products as recyclable through it COmmon Threads Partnership, to avoid the waste of materials during its post wear. In 2007 Patagonia begins to protect the environment under its corporate responsibility with its launch of The Footprint Chronicles®, which would trace the social and environmental impact of Patagonia’s products. This caused for and internal retraining of their employees who perform the supply chain visits and audits to fully understand their code of honor. This first step of integrating the environment with human rights led towards the Sustainable Apparel Coalition in 2010, Patagonia gathered top leaders in apparel and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to create an index of how they perform in social and environmental responsibility. This coalition represents a third of the clothing and footwear produced in the world. They also became the first outdoor apparel to work with Fair Trade USA on its Fair Trade Certified apparel which began to expand after its success in India’s mills
American Eagle Outfitters specializes in denim jeans that are higher-quality and more affordable than Aéropostal and A&F. AEO’s jeans are always updated with the latest fashions and trends. They even have an AE jean guide online so their customers get the perfect fit every time. AEO is also very earth friendly and has been making their merchandise packaging made out of recycled matter. AEO noted that they had a 2010 holiday collection called “Eco Shop” which presented both men and women’s clothing that was crafted out of qualified organic and recycled material. Many of the attire were made out of unrefined cotton that was grown without the use of hazardous synthetic pesticides which resulted in fewer fossil fuel emissions. This is something their competitors, Aéropostal and A&F, haven’t done for their customers and the environment.

must understand the social issues that may have a negative impact on their company. They have a social responsibility regardless of the country that they are in. According to our textbook, Executive Concepts in Business Strategy (2011), “Social responsibility is the obligation an organization (profit-seeking or nonprofit) has to be ethical, responsible, and responsive to the needs of the members in the organization as well as the larger society.” (p. 545) Remember that your period goes after the in-text citation. To support this, Friedman’s doctrine (1970) bout “social responsibilities of business” is that “A corporation is an artificial person and in this sense may have artificial responsibilities, but “business” as a whole cannot be said to have responsibilities, even in this vague sense….the social responsibility of business is to ask precisely what it implies for whom.” (p. 2). All direct quotes >40 words need to be placed in a block quotation. XYZ should have a positive impact on the country by using environmentally safe materials along with not violating any laws by applying for permits and licenses in a timely
As mentioned above, senseless growth and corporate profit are not among Patagonia’s primary goals. Actually, Yvon Chouinard even considers it as “really bad”. He is comfortable with a 3-5% annual growth, a range that would make the company earn sufficient profit to continue its environmental actions. They, as a company, are aware that their business activity represents an environmental harm since it creates pollution. For this reason, they work steadily to reduce those harms trying to find solutions to this environmental crisis. Patagonia even partners with other corporations to reduce environmental issues. The company aims to create the circumstances under which humans and nature can occur in a productive harmony. For this reason, the primary objective of Patagonia can be identified in the desire to make the whole business sustainable by creating an elastic and free working environment, increasing employee’ satisfaction, having a good influence on the planet and, last but not least, making the best quality product for their customer. Quality is a keyword in their mission and describes a whole way of doing business. Quality is not only correlated with products but it also linked to customer satisfaction, workplace and stakeholders’ relationship. All this without being of harm for the

Globalization Phase, companies were known locally, regionally and internationally, their products were already improved offering innovative services. However, as The Economist (2007) has highlighted, while more global the companies are more aware of corporate social responsibility they need to be, namely, foreign stakeholders will expect, not only innovative and effective products, but also they will open their doors and invest their money to companies that are social responsible.

NGOs interested in Zara’s performance may, for instance, include organisations with an environmental focus, such as Greenpeace who in 2012 made Zara commit to eliminate all discharge of hazardous chemicals from its supply chain and clothes (Greenpeace, 2012), and organisations who are rather concerned with the rights of the employees working, either directly or indirectly, for Zara, for example the NGO La Alameda who in 2013 accused Zara of outsourcing its production in Argentina to clandestine sweatshops letting immigrants work under slave-like conditions (Equal Times, 2013). Other political actors with a potential interest in Zara’s performance are local trade unions and organisations in charge of consumer
As a response of various environmental issues from the textile manufacturing industry, green or sustainable textile manufacturing has aroused in recent years. The idea and concept of sustainable textile manufacturing is involving ethical and sustainable considerations to the entire supply chain process, from textile production to apparel manufacturing to retailing. “According to the Ethical Fashion Forum (2011), ethical fashion “represents an approach to the design, sourcing and manufacture of clothing which maximizes benefits to people and communities while minimizing impact on the environment.” The ethical fashion industry follows an ethical production cycle which creates social and environmental value.” (Cervellon & Wernerfelt, 2012, p. 177) Consumers is the biggest contributor and the reason of success for the textile manufacturing industry, therefore, in order to promote the growth and future for sustainable textile manufacturing, the education and knowledge that consumers have on green fashion and a new mindset for business and manufacturing are crucial for the future of a better environment for
It is certain that people are getting more used to wasting products that are still reliable to use and, especially in fashion, not that many people are aware of the concept of sustainability. Although concept of recycling paper, plastic and glass has now spread a cross the states, people still doesn’t know how to recycle or reuse their clothing. “65 pounds of clothing and textiles a year are improperly discarded and only an eight of that goes to charities for reuse [1].” This indicates how unaware people are when it comes to taking care of their garments. Or rather, the way in which fast fashion industry promotes the value of cloth is very low, and it is because the fashion industry wants people to get rid of their clothing as soon as possible in order to sell their new colle...
Corporations that place an importance on corporate social responsibility usually have an easier experience when dealing with politicians and government regulators. In compare, businesses that present an irresponsible disregard for social responsibility tend to find themselves fending off various reviews and probes, often brought on at the assertion of public service organizations. The more positive the public insight is that a corporation takes social responsibility seriously; the less likely it is that innovative groups will launch public campaigns and claim government inquiries against it.
That can lead to the water stress and pollution. Cotton is one of the common natural fibers and it is also a thirsty crop, to produce one cotton shirt it takes 2,700 liters of water which is enough amount of water for one person to drink 2 ½ years (3p Contributor., 2015). The chemical wastages from chemical dye and bleaches that produce from the factory, and carbon footprint such as polyester production which can lead to climate change. Given that amount of water wastage, I feel that people should opt for sustainable fashion clothes. Most people may be hesitant to try something so novel, so green. Therefore, I feel the fashion house should educate the public about the many benefits of sustainable fashion
Sustainable fashion offers various benefits to both the consumer and the entire environment. For instance, it is noted that the entire process of sustainable fashion is worthy for the globe. In most cases, the fashion industry leaves behind a huge environmental imprint ranging from the pesticides in growing cotton to the landfill impact of clothes that wear out and the energy needed to manufacture every piece. Therefore, deciding on organic fibers or sustainable fabrics made from bamboo can also reduce the quantity of carbon emitted and chemicals brought into people`s lives. This shows how sustainable fashion if embraced can bring benefits to the consumer, the producer, and to the environment, which is very vital for future generations. Selecting clothes that contain the label “fair trade act,” during purchase emphasizes on sustainability in numerous ways. The first thing is that, it guarantees that the product was produced under safe working conditions. Further, it signifies that the person who produced it earned a fair wage since it is sweatshop free (Hethorn 123). The act of purchasing clothes considered as “fair trade” confirms that individuals and places mean more than the organization`s fundamental reason for its
