Like an invasive species, hundreds of paper cranes began to take over the top shelf of my locker. Each time I opened it, they seemed to double in quantity, and I realized that I had started something that I could not stop. My locker became a thriving ecosystem, where paper cranes propagated and evolved over time. Evolving from the cranes, paper dragons and other creatures began to appear. Within my paper ecosystem, each crane was unique. Some were big and some were small. Some were blue and some were pink. Others had stripes or were embellished with words and pictures. Every size, color, and style was represented. Like people, no two of my cranes were the same. I folded cranes everywhere: at home, at school, in the car, at restaurants, and every place in between. I never got tired of making them because I experimented with their size and material regularly. How big or how small could I make them? From what could I make them? These questions drove my passion. I soon could make cranes the size of microwave ovens or the size of popcorn kernels. All sizes were possible. I made some from Post-it notes and others from candy wrappers, aluminum foil, cloth towels, and plain old printer paper; however, my favorite medium soon became the margins of my notebook. My notes soon became stripped of their corners and edges, which I …show more content…
It started when I was young, making paper airplanes with my father and friends. We made a myriad of planes as we each competed to produce the best design. As they evolved, experimentation and creativity were the keys to success. Eventually, I stumbled upon paper cranes. The first few ended in crumpled wads of paper. The folds were unlike any I had done before, and frustration set in after many failed attempts. I began taking suggestions from different people and combining them with my own knowledge and ideas. Soon I could fold a crane in under a minute or even
The thoughts presented in the stories are very similar as both characters are somewhat childlike and are quite naive. Choy once again uses dialogue to show how Mie isn’t as wise as her parents. Mie’s mother who is much wiser says “Well, when I was your age I had many dreams, as children do,”(Choy 11). Here Mie’s mother sees Mie’s dream as childish as she needs to be worried about things that are much more important. Imagery is also used to show how Mie wants to see the red cranes. Mie’s thoughts are still presented similarly through dialogue between her and her parents. Sachiko has many experiences with the fireflies and takes actions unlike Mie who wishes to see red cranes. Tanizaki also continues to use symbolism and imagery, with many descriptions to indicate how Sachiko’s character develops throughout the
The population of the whooping cranes most definitely gets affected from precipitation, because the population gets affected negatively with high precipitation levels present, while positively with low precipitation levels. The population of the whooping cranes gets affected this way because if there were high precipitation levels for a year, the hatching success rate drastically decreases from the precipitation, who damages the eggs laid by the cranes. By either breaking the eggs, making the cranes not be present to incubate their eggs, or actually destroying the birds’ nests. Also, the high precipitation levels may even cause a few fatalities, which is a very serious problem involving this particular endangered species. While with low precipitation
This experiment was designed to illustrate the process of evolution through the use of Origami Birds. It was evident at the conclusion of the experiment that Origami Birds with a smaller in circumference front wing placed 3 centimeters from the end of the straw and larger in circumference back wing placed 3 centimeters from the end of the straw flew further than the Generation 0 birds with the same circumference front and back wings. Our results also indicated that birds with their wings positioned differently than 3 centimeters from either end of the straw did not fly as far as those who were positioned at that 3 centimeter mark. Generation 0's best flyer produced a distance of 2.08 meters with a 3x20 and 3x20 wing ratio. Generation 1's best
One day as I was walking along through the tall blades of grass, I came upon a massive figure. I thought to myself, oh just another one of these uninteresting creatures, but this one, this one was different. This one was clad with long flowing hair, and other features that did not fit my ordinary image of these marvelous creatures. I quickly realized it was going to place itself on the ground, and I was in its way. I quickly sprung to safety as the massive creature collapsed where I was previously stationed. How rude, I thought, It ruined the perfect flow of the grass. But I did not ponder too much on it as it was commonplace for these large creatures to land here. By the tree. Next to the water.
Sandhill Cranes are known for their courtship dances and their distinct loud calls. According to Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center, there are a total of six subspecies of Sandhill Cranes that are classified into two groups; the migratory and non-migratory. “The three migratory subspecies (Lesser, Greater and Canadian) are distributed across a broad breeding range in the northern U.S. and Canada as well as eastern Siberia, with wintering grounds in the southern United States and northern Mexico. The three non-migratory subspecies (Mississippi, Cuban, and Florida) have restricted ranges in the southern United States and Cuba (International Crane Foundation).” According to Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center, the declines in Sandhill Cranes are due to forfeiture of wetlands, changes in its environment, and hunting. Over the years, the debate is whether or not to hunt the bird. It is important that we preserve the Sandhill Cranes because they are not game birds, they’re beautiful birds, and they have cultural significance in other countries.
The trebuchet was capable of taking down castle walls, fortresses, and entire cities. They were used as an ancient war engine in the early 300 B.C. in Ancient China. The trebuchet reached Europe in the Middle Ages, in the year 500 A.D. It was originally primarily used by the French, and were temporarily used as a power source. It will later be used as a weapon, introduced to England during the Siege of Dover in the year 1216. The trebuchet was used to take down the Dover castle's walls in this Siege.
The Cranes" by Peter Meinke has all the earmarks of being a straightforward romantic tale around an old couple thinking back about their life, however, with a more critical look, the story uncovers a darker segment of affection. The story takes after an elderly couple 's stop at the Gulf to watch a few birds. While they are watching the feathered friend, they spot two whooping cranes. All through their discussion and perception of the winged animals, Meinke uncovers points of interest that the couples and the cranes partake in like manner. Along these lines, the combine of whooping cranes saw the couple in story symbolizes both their irregularity, eternal love, and their last minutes together.

It all started the day that I learned to crochet. One day we had a day off of school while I was living in the group home, and one of the older girls was sitting by herself crocheting a beanie. It was the
In evolutionary biology, when species have the same resemblance to another, common characteristics mimic one another. These similarities can be categorized in physical appearance, behavior, sound, scent, and location with particular mimics found in identical places to their models. Mimicry appears when a group of species, the mimics, develop to contribute common characteristics with another group, the models. Another form of mimicry, camouflage resembles the species surroundings and makes animals or objects difficult to see. Species mimic inanimate objects like leaves, twigs, rocks, and many other textures. Such successful mimicry researchers investigate provides complications to understand. It is a unique technique of how animals copy or mimic one another.
Cranes speak to the use of one or more direct machines to make mechanical purpose of hobby. A balance crane contains a level column (the lever) pivoted a point called the backing. The principle of the lever allows a generous weight joined to the shorter end of the column to be lifted by a humbler force associated the other route to the more drawn out end of the bar. The extent of the load's weight to the joined force is comparable to the extent of the lengths of the more broadened arm and the shorter arm, and is known as the mechanical ideal position.
As a young child, my parents founded Mystic Acres Kennels, a kennel that resides on our property and is run by my family. My earliest memories are playing at the desk in the kennel, waiting to greet dogs as they entered. To distract me when large dogs came in, my mom had a constant supply of playdough, a toy which provided endless entertainment. I found myself, building and creating anything that I could get my hands on. The ideas would flow endlessly.
The world we live in today is full of an exceptional variety of animals. The time it took to conclude to the various sorts of species seen today has been throughout a period of millions of years. The vast majority of these animals are accredited to evolutionary advancements. When the environment changes, organisms have become accustomed to changing to fit their environment, to ensure their species does not die off. These physical changes have resulted in different phyla, ranging from basic structures, like sponges to advance systems, like that of an octopus.
A few months ago I was at my local hardware store looking for some door hinges because the day before one of the doors in my house fell off the wall because the hinges were put on poorly, but when I was shopping for some new hinges, out the corner of my eye I saw some random guy pick up a small wooden side table and I thought to my self where did carpentry start. So, I researched what sort of people used it, the technology that had, and the sort of things they made. These are the things I found.
It started with colors. When my family decided on repainting the house, I noticed how change in one color changed the outlook and feel of an area. So, the observation started with color and my exploration began. I always had interest in organizing, decorating, and changing the looks of an area. Be it the area as small as my closet or as large as my entire house. This interest never had indicated me to become a professional in it. Because organizing few things is not considered as a skill, but an essential part of a lifestyle these days. Hence, I thought this “tweaking“ of few things was not an extraordinary talent. And it always remained in the background while the main focus in my career was advancing in the field of IT industry, which the masses had declared as successful.
