Title: Paper Airplane Challenge. Problem: The question for the paper airplane challenge is if the material of the airplane is changed to a lighter material than the plane flies further. Hypothesis: If the paper is changed to a lighter material than the plane will fly further. Experimental Design: Use the following three types of paper, cardstock, printer paper and wrapping paper. Make a classic style airplane, and see which flies further. The independent variable is paper,dependent is distance and the constant variables is the size and control plane. The plane went straight at first then the plane would hit the ceiling and a smackdown would occur. The plane did repeat the smackdown a couple times. The plane glided smoothly and did what a plane is suppose to do. This plane gave best results. The 2ft resulted in this data a drastic and bad crash into the wall. (No lives lost) Conclusion: The lighter plane flew further based on this design. The results did support the hypothesis made, which that the lighter one went further than others. When looking at the table and seeing the averages of the data, the average for the wrapping paper is greater than cardstock and regular paper. When looking at the table some more, the distances, or how many feet the wrapping paper plane flew was significantly greater than the other planes. To closure the hypothesis was correct, but the data might have been affected because the group was not the greatest throwers to start out with and everybody threw a

My hypothesis for the penny cleaning with the chemicals experiment was accepted. The hypothesis was; “If a penny is placed in salt and vinegar, then it will get cleaner than the other chemicals being used”. The data used from the experiment that supports the hypothesis was that the salt and vinegar chemical cleaned a penny the best it had a 90 out of 100.

This invention would have an even greater impact on our culture than cars. Although cars are used every day in America, planes have had the largest impact on American culture. Many people are amazed with the flight of an object, especially one the size of an airplane, but they do not realize how much physics plays a role in this amazing incident. There are many different ways in which physics aids the flight of an aircraft. In the following few paragraphs some of the many ways will be described so that you, the reader, will realize physics at work in the world of flight.
Up, Up and Away! So your paper airplane takes to the air and glides gentely to the ground but you still don't understand how it is able to glide. Your paper airplane uses lift to carry it through the air and to its landing area. Now you are interested and want to know how lift works. The lift for your paper airplane doesn't work quite the same as a real airplane but understanding how an airplane maintains lift is useful. Now something important to remember is that lift can only happen when in the pressense of a moving fluid and that air has fluid properties.
The Terminal Velocity of a Paper Helicopter Introduction. Terminal velocity is the resulting occurance when acceleration and resistance forces are equal. As an example, a freefalling parachutist before the parachute opens reaches terminal velocity at about 120mph, but when the parachute is opened, terminal velocity is reached at 15mph, which is a safe speed to hit the ground at. This experiment will be no different, as I will be examining the terminal velocity of a freefalling paper helicopter.

Ever since I was little I was amazed at the ability for a machine to fly. I have always wanted to explore ideas of flight and be able to actually fly. I think I may have found my childhood fantasy in the world of aeronautical engineering. The object of my paper is to give me more insight on my future career as an aeronautical engineer. This paper was also to give me ideas of the physics of flight and be to apply those physics of flight to compete in a high school competition.
Airplane decent and landing accidents have been statistically proven to be one of the most common forms of airplane incidents. Ultimately accounting for about 37% airplane accidents, there are several different stages of the decent and landing process and several mechanical issues as well as a lack of focus on the part of the pilot can contribute to a faulty landing, ultimately resulting in a minor or fatal crash (Tullo, 2001).

Orville Wright once said, “The airplane stays up because it doesn't have time to fall.” The airplane never did fall and excelled in everything it did, not falling once. The airplane, one of the most important inventions created in the 20th century, impacted travel ways across the world.
