In the game of Pagida, character Katharos the warrior walks into the Foloi Oak Forest, feeling disheartened after finding out that everyone is stuck in the virtual game until the game is beaten. “I can’t believe I got stuck in this this game,” Katharos says. Suddenly Katharos hears a scream in the distance. The scream came from Leda the mage, who is tied to a tree and is surrounded by angry goblins. Katharos runs to the area where she heard the scream, then hides in the shadows to watch what is going on. “Stupid goblins! Let me go!” Leda yells with frustration. She struggles in the ropes as the goblins start to make a fire to roast Leda on. Impulsively, Katharos takes her sword out of her inventory and runs into battle to save Leda from the goblins. Katharos quickly knocks out the first goblin, and then slashes the rope that keeps Leda bound to the tree. Once Leda is free from the ropes, she grabs her magical staff and casts a sleeping spell on the rest of the goblins. “Thanks for saving me, but I didn’t need any help,” Leda says stubbornly. “It didn’t seem that way. It looked as though they were about to roast you over that fire,” Katharos replies. “Whatever, I’m leaving,” Leda says in a hurry. “In order to get out of the game, we have to beat the game, so why don’t we work together?” Katharos replies. Leda thinks about Katharos’s offer, and reluctantly replies, “Sure, why not? I’ve got nothing better to do.” So Leda and Katharos gathered their belongings and venture further into the Foloi Oak Forest. As they walk through the forest, Katharos starts wiggling and walking funny. “Katharos, what are you doing?” Leda asks in a confused tone. “I really got to pee,” Katharos replies anxiously. Leda stops and faces Kathar... ... middle of paper ... ...l of a sudden, Leda freezes the fire and Maia into solid ice. Katharos takes the opportunity to jump on the ice and attack the frozen Maia. The story of Perpetua revolves around this young woman and how she was one of five Christians convicted to death in a crowded arena that contained seats filled with people. Perpetua along with her companions depict a true story of martyrdom, and how this five devout Christians struggled against the societal norms and neglected their families in order to stand up for their religious beliefs. In this essay I will describe and analyze the theme of family pertaining to both Perpetua and Felicitas, as well as what role families play in the lives of martyrs, which in this case is the fact that martyrs are willing to disassociate with their families, in order to fight for their beliefs. Also, I will discuss how martyrs, including Perpetua, who neglects her father, and Felicitas who neglects her newborn baby challenge their family obligations. In the case of these martyrs, Christians have changed what the word family means, as family does not have to be someone of the same blood, but rather those who agree with your beliefs and stick together in times of turmoil. Perpetua and her companions were the first of few people in the year 203 to actually go against pagan views and express the importance of their own individuality and beliefs, and for this reason they are worthy of admiration. If it was not for their bravery and courage to break away from beliefs that did not wish to pursue, than thousands of other people would have never followed their example later on and fought for their own beliefs as well.
