It all started in Pablo’s mind. He witnessed the greatest basketball comeback in history. The Cleveland Cavaliers, led by all-star small forward LeBron James, came back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA finals to beat the Golden State Warriors and claim the NBA championship.
This is when his passion for basketball sparked and grew like a wildfire.
The following basketball season, after improving his basketball skills during the summer, Pablo tried out for his high school basketball team and made it. After finding out that he made it, Pablo quickly called his parents to tell them the good news. At his first practice, the coach, Coach Damal, quickly noticed that Pablo was a new player and that he had not tried out in previous years. He also noticed

Pablo had scored twelve points in the first quarter. All of his points came from three pointers. Pablo was surprised that his team had gotten off to a good start as Chino Hills had one of the best defenses in the country. The second quarter came along and Pablo did not get subbed into the game until there was only three minutes left in the quarter. He was given the nearly impossible task of guarding Lonzo Ball, one of the top three high school recruits for that year. While Lonzo was guarded by Pablo for the remainder of the quarter, he scored only five points and made only one three pointer. Lonzo, while guarded by Pablo, only shot 35% from the field, while shooting 47% from the field while guarded by someone else. The second quarter ended and the game was tied at halftime with a score of sixty to sixty. Lonzo Ball had fifteen points, six assists, and four rebounds. LiAngelo Ball had nine points, four assists, and eleven rebounds. LaMelo Ball had twenty points, ten assists, and two rebounds. The third quarter started and Chino Hills was outscored, twenty to twelve in the 3rd quarter, putting Pablo’s team on top, eighty to seventy-two going into the fourth quarter. Chino Hills went ahead by eight points with four minutes and thirty seconds left. Pablo gets subbed into the game with a minute and forty seconds left. Pablo’s coach called a timeout after Pablo’s
...e rookie along slowly. Through the first half of the season, Hardaway started at the off guard slot while veteran Scott Skiles started at the point. But by midseason Hill felt Hardaway was ready, and on February 6 Penny became the Magic's starting point guard for the rest of the year. The multitalented rookie had a phenomenal first season, finishing a close second to Webber for the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. Hardaway played and started in all 82 games, averaging 16.0 points, 6.6 assists and 5.4 rebounds. He also set a club record with 190 steals, and his average of 2.32 steals per game ranked sixth in the NBA. Hardaway was named NBA Rookie of the Month for January after averaging 20.5 points, 7.0 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.33 steals over 15 games. In February, Hardaway was named the MVP of the NBA Rookie Game during All-Star Weekend in Minneapolis. He scored 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor. Bolstered by Hardaway's contributions, the Magic set a franchise record with 50 victories and advanced to the playoffs for the first time ever. Orlando lost in the first round to the Indiana Pacers, but many felt that, for the Magic and for Hardaway, the best was yet to come.
Jordan simply dominated the nineties and left the game as an NBA Finals winner in 1998. It was not until the year 2002 that the NBA was able to find someone to match Jordan’s dazzling acrobatic style of play. His name is Lebron James. Lebron, who plays shooting guard and small forward, stands at an athletic six-eight. James, however, never played in the NCAA.
Pete Maravich was one of the greatest basketball players of all time. His spectacular moves and awesome footwork helped him to get better everyday. His incredible passes and being able to control the court caused his teammates to like him even more. “His playground moves, circus shots, and hotdog passes were considered outrageous during his era” (NBA Encyclopedia Playoff Edition). His love for basketball was instilled by his father Peter “Press” Maravich.
Everybody in Detroit called him “The Man” because he always was a leader and the to-go person in any tough moment of the game. Some people called him “The Gentleman” because he was a genuinely nice person with respect for the game and for others. Joe Dumars, a member of the legendary 1989-1990 Detroit Pistons team, once declared “He is the best player I’ve seen coming into the league for years”. Road to history was wide open for Grant, but luck had some other plans for his career. This is the story of Grant Hill, a story about having faith, patience and love for the game of basketball.
Cousy, the freshman substitute who would become the most famous player in school history and a great professional, contributed two free throws.
As a 5’9” sophomore in high school in Wilmington, North Carolina, he tried out for his school’s basketball team but wasn’t good enough, neither tall enough, to make it. He then practiced throughout the year and came back as a 6’3” junior to try out. In his first season at Carolina, he became the second Tarheel player to start in every game as a freshman and was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year (1982). The Sporting News named him college player of the year in 1983 and in 1984. He left North Caro...
Michael Jordan, what comes to your mind when you hear that name? Michael had played for the bulls and had gotten 6 championship rings with the team. Well, is it just me or does that sound like a lot of time in the game of basketball? In 1982 he took a big step up from highschool to college, where he wanted to pursue the basketball dream. He went to college at North Carolina where he played NCAA basketball for just one year before he was drafted in 1984. All eyes were on him when he went on the court, because that just how good he was at the game of basketball. Michael Jordan is one of the greatest players in NBA history, maybe even the greatest of all time.
Edgar Allan Poe, a famous American writer and a poet, had written several short stories such as “William Wilson,” “The Fall of the House and Usher,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” and poems such as “The Bells” and “The Raven,” which was one of the most famous poems ever written in English. There is always something different about Poe’s writing. Most of the classical murders make a person ask “who’s done it?” but his writings such as “The Cask of Amontillado” makes one ask the why question “why did he [Montresor] do it?” (Baraban). Every “detail in his [Poe’s] works that appear” has a purpose behind it (Baraban) and he “rarely depended on much dialogue in constructing his stories (Benton). In “The Cask of Amontillado,” Poe uses setting, foreshadowing,
That next year, in 1996, Jordan and the Bulls Basketball Team won another NBA Title. “Jordan was the NBA Finals MVP in that 96 season. That award was his 4th one” (Contemporary p.1). Since Jordan won another title the first year after he came back to the league,it started to show across the nation that he was a true dominant force. He started to show that he was a legend and king of the league. Jordan and the Bulls won two more titles in consecutive years, and Jordan racked up many more individual awards. Not only did Jordan make the city of Chicago happy, but the whole entire happy. According to Hollar, “Jordan was the leader of the 1992 Olympic team. He led USA to another gold medal, and his second Olympic gold medal” (p.68). Jordan had the determination and the fight to become great. The greatest example of this was the “Flu
“Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!” These were the words spoken by ESPN’s Mike Breen during Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals, describing one of the best defensive plays in NBA history. Hello, I am Steven Lai, and we are here today to celebrate LeBron James. We celebrate him because he is one of the greatest basketball players on the court and off the court. As a huge LeBron fan, I can tell you all why we are here to celebrate him. To celebrate LeBron James, I will talk about his accomplishments in the NBA, his social activism, and his charitable acts.
Whether some people like it or not, LeBron is one of the greatest to do it. He still continues today scoring major points, leading his team, and dominating the game of basketball.
Throughout his childhood and teenage years Terry has shown strong determination to achieve his goals. As a child Terry had always wanted to play basketball for his school. The National Basketball Associations, Golden State Warriors are approaching history. They are the number 1 ranked team in the league and the quest for winning a record 73 games is well within reach. The keys they play by have helped them be the success they are. The consistent 3 point shooting threat has left many shaking their heads in disbelief. Always making the extra pass has allowed them to strive on and off the ball. Most importantly teamwork both on offense and defense has led them to be ranked among the league’s best in both. As long as the Golden State Warriors keep shooting the three point shot the way they have been, along with great passing and teamwork they will pass the record held by the 1995-1996 Michael Jordan led Chicago bulls team.
After many hours of hard work and practice on the court, he was selected to start on his high school’s basketball team
Ever since I was a little boy, about eight years old or so, I had an extreme passion for the sport of basketball. On weekends, I would wake up in the morning, eat a bowl of frosted flakes or cheerios, put on basketball shorts and then go in my driveway to shoot around. I would be out there for hours just shooting around or playing with some random kids that I would occasionally see walking around my neighborhood. This was satisfaction to me, but even better was playing on multiple public teams and not just playing in my driveway every day. In elementary school, I played in a recreational league, just like almost every other kid who tries out basketball when they were younger. This was fun and all but it was nothing too serious. There were never any practices, it was just one or two unorganized games per week. I never took
