Ozti the iceman is one of the most unique and astonishing finds of human remains there has ever been. Frozen in ice, his story will never cease to amaze you. Lachlan Ballangarry reports. On the 19th September, 1991, two German holiday makers Erika and Helmut Simon would not have expected to have found a body protruding out of the ice while walking on the east ridge of the Fineilspitze in the Ötztal Alps on the Austrian–Italian border. (Wikepedia, 2017) This wasn’t the biggest shock, it came after removing the body from the ice with jackhammers and ice-picks. Due to everyone thinking the body was from a recent missing mountaineer. But archaeologist Konrad Spindler dated the body "about four thousand years old” (Spindler, 1991) based on the Copper …show more content…
A very good age considering the short life expectancy 5300 years ago. As scientists have found that Ozti carried many health issues during and at the end of his life. With eggs of whipworm being found in his digestive retract, had Lyme disease an infectious disease caused by ticks found in his DNA (Deem, 2016). X-rays also showed he had many broken bones throughout his life, such as several ribs, nose and also shows significant wear and tear of joints probably from his very physical lifestyle of climbing mountains and hunting (South Tyrol, 2016). With many death theories being considered Much conspiracy has occurred over Ozti’s death though. Theory one being Ozti froze to death peacefully, two Ozti was injured in a fight before he froze, three he was shot accidentally but four the most likely theory is that Ozti was actually murdered (Deem 2016). “It was only in 2001 that an X-ray revealed a flint arrowhead in his left shoulder, after which a 2 cm entry wound was discovered in his back” (South Tyrol, 2016) However, it was not just Ozti that was found several artefacts were also found around the location of the …show more content…
As analyses of Ötzi’s stomach contents have shown that he ate venison and chamois meat, grains and other plants before he died. Suggesting to us hunting and cultivating may have been occurring. Giving us a type of diet his people ate at the time. As Ozti now being held in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology “It lies on precision scales at -6°C and 99% humidity and is visible to the public through a small window. The mummy is regularly sprayed with sterile water to prevent loss of its natural moisture.” (South Tyrol, 2016) Nevertheless, the discovery of Ozti has been one of the greatest finds of human remains. Not just due to the incredible way he was preserved, but how he has given us a clear snapshot of what life was like 5300 years ago. Without his find both archaeologists and scientists would not have as close as the information they have now about the people of the late Stone Age looked and
The skeleton had a hideous impact to the community and was predicted by local investigators to be reasonably modern. To get better understanding and avoid confusion, a bone sample was sent to a laboratory in the USA for investigation and analysation using series of scientific
The Mummy Case of Paankhenamun has great significant in that it provides us with very fundamental evidence from ancient history. It does not only exhibit a complex form of art, but it also demonstrates the religious practices of ancient Egyptians in association with their beliefs in life after death, as well as their great fascination with immortality. It not only teaches us about the great science of mummification, but it also provides us all with the incredible opportunity to learn about the life of an ancient person.

There are many wonders that we have not found out of King Tut, one of the most intriguing ones is how did the young pharaoh die. Many hypothesis have been made, but will the truth ever come out. King Tutankhamen was found to be in a very early age when we died, how could all of a sudden be told as dead. He had many injuries that were confirmed during an autopsy. Some of these injuries were a cut on Tut’s cheek, Tut’s rib cage was missing, and a fragment of bone was found in his skull due to a hit to the head.
The ginormous volcano at Akrotiri on the island of Thera during the Bronze Age was devastating, and is speculated to be related to the fall of the Minoan civilization. Starting in 1867, archeologists discovered pottery, a buried city and frescoes. These discoveries are the most significant as the pottery and the buried city helped historians learn about the art, trade and societal aspects of Akrotiri, and the frescoes found revealed more information about Akrotiri’s art and religion.

One of the spears was particularly interesting because of some of its markings. This spear still had the bloodstains of an animal. DNA testing was done and it was found to have belonged to an early species of buffalo. Interestingly enough, it also still had the fur from the animal imbedded into the wood.
In 1991, the body of a 5,000-year-old murder victim was discovered in melting ice at a rock-gully crime scene high in the Italian Otzal Alps. Nicknamed “Otzi“, the estimated 45-year-old man and his possessions were well persevered in ice. His skin, hair, bones, and organs were cryopreserved in time, allowing archeological researchers a phenomenal insight into human life in the Copper Age.
Otzi had various clothes and hand tools, which helped archaeologists figure out what his life may have been like. A cooper ax for chopping firewood, a six-foot bow with 14 arrows for hunting game, a woven grass cape for extra warmth, a deerskin coat for protection from the cold, a flint knife with a leather case for cutting, and leather pants of animal skins and leather boots insulated with grass to keep the legs and feet warm. These are the reasons Otzi was considered a significant artifact of this time period. Cave paintings also helped improve our understanding of what life was like for early man in the Paleolithic Age. On September 12, 1940, in the Lascaux cave (in Lascaux, France), 4 teenagers discovered a collection of prehistoric paintings (over 600). According to archaeologists, the Paleolithic people found a way to express themselves through their artwork. It was the first art in global history. In addition, the paint came from iron dust, sand, clay, crushed rocks, fruits, charcoal, and blood. Their artwork conveys different messages. The moving animals shows that they were
