Before losing her father, Macy was a happy and fun girl to be around. Her father and her had a deep connection within the family that her sister never had. They would always run together because it was their favorite thing to do. One morning, Macy decided to not go on the run with her father because she wanted some extra time to sleep in. Macy hit a low point with no support around her to help her out. When her father died, she was known as a weird, anti-social outcast, but when she finds people she loves she finds herself. Macy lost everything in her when the death of her father happened, but she slowly built it back up. She fixed relationships but also got rid of the rotten ones. After that she did everything for herself. She didn’t focus on impressing anyone but herself. She went from outcast to someone who didn’t care where she stood as long as she had her strong, loving relationships. She cherished those because from what she experienced, she knows it could be gone in a
She was seduced at an early age and then fell in love with a preacher, but was overcome by an exciting younger man. She experienced every form of lust and desire as well as loss. Somehow though all the hardship she was able to come out on the other side a more complete woman and ironically did so without any of these
After six years, she finally earned it. She was now a typical American teenager. She was even what you would consider a “popular kid”. She had her friends, and her thick accent was not so thick anymore, even if it was not gone. However, there was still one thing that separated her from the rest of her group, and every time she introduced herself to a new person she knew that.
... she is indeed angered and fed up at the fact that there is a stereotype. The way in which she contradicts herself makes it hard for readers to understand the true meaning or point to her poem, the voice was angry and ready for change, yet the actions that the individual was participating in raised questions of whether or not he actually fit the stereotype.
Her family life is depicted with contradictions of order and chaos, love and animosity, conventionality and avant-garde. Although the underlying story of her father’s dark secret was troubling, it lends itself to a better understanding of the family dynamics and what was normal for her family. The author doesn’t seem to suggest that her father’s behavior was acceptable or even tolerable. However, the ending of this excerpt leaves the reader with an undeniable sense that the author felt a connection to her father even if it wasn’t one that was desirable. This is best understood with her reaction to his suicide when she states, “But his absence resonated retroactively, echoing back through all the time I knew him. Maybe it was the converse of the way amputees feel pain in a missing limb.” (pg. 399)

She used to live one way and now that she has to live another way she has decided that she wants to try new things. She begins to focus on herself instead of taking care of her family and their needs. She lost her child, and now her husband is a completely different person due to his accident. She started to see the world differently and I think that it shows through her hobbies. I think her hobbies show that she could feel differently about her husband. She used to take care of him, but now that he’s at home, she may feel like she needs time for herself. I think her hobbies shows that she’s more interested in taking care of herself and making changes that will eventually better her life. I think the conflict between the two shows greatly in their hobbies and interests. The accident clearly reversed their roles that they played in the family. Their differences in hobbies and interests show how much they have changed and it takes an effect on their marriage. They became two completely different people, they switched roles, and it eventually destroys their
The point of view she expressed through out the whole text, was her own. She was able to keep readers insight of the psychoanalytic theory the story has. The actions the protagonist had in the story showed us how it affected her adult self, and how the issue developed a rebel over time. Even after years from when the recurring events took place, her actions as a child had an effect on both mother and daughter. This theory gives readers the idea that things that happen to people during childhood can contribute to the way they later function as

What Susan has overcome to be where she is--a working actress (who is not necessarily typecast) and a woman who is comfortable in her own skin--that is a true triumph in of itself. In an age where Hollywood is beginning to discard their stereotypical images of gender, religion, weight, ethnicity, and more, it is a delectable delight to see a woman like Susan who is gifted and determined to accomplish her dreams no matter what obstacles are propelled in her way. When I look at Susan, I notice the beauty of her face, her radiant smile, and the kindness and generosity shining from her soul. Every day, Susan effectively debunks the flawed system that has been crammed into the heads of impressionable, young women that if they are not this or that, they are not beautiful nor worthy of someone's love. No doubt, Susan is a natural-born performer, and she is careful to give credit to all who have helped her on her journey to become the best entertainer and person that she can be.
