Intensive outpatient drug rehab (IOP) is the primary, outpatient treatment for drug addicts. Professionals tailor this to meet each individual's needs. Patients then participate in the program for between 10–12 hours each week. Throughout the time they're not in IOP, patients continue living at home and participating in their normal, daily activities. As such, this form of drug treatment is more suitable for anyone who can't take an extended absence from work, school, or other personal obligations.
With this main benefit in mind, you should know that a few other benefits also exist. The other reasons why you should consider attending an IOP include:
Since you remain at home while engaged in treatment you can practice the newly learned behaviors

This is because each intensive outpatient drug rehab program offers a different type of services. Most of these IOPs place the majority of their focus on relapse prevention though.
It's important to remember that an IOP is tailored to meet each patient's individual needs. However, there's one thing that always remains the same: When you attend this type of a program you're assigned a counselor who will check in with you on a regular basis.
Another thing that's pretty standard with an IOP is that you'll start by attending 5 days a week. Eventually this does taper down to only three days per week. The length of the treatment will vary from 6 – 8 weeks.
The Effectiveness of Intensive Outpatient Drug Rehab
Many studies have been conducted regarding the effectiveness of intensive outpatient drug rehab. According to these studies, 50 – 70% of patients remained sober after leaving treatment. As such, IOPs play a major role in treating drug addicts today.
Throughout your time in an IOP you'll be able to successfully stop doing drugs. While these programs are a step down from intensive, inpatient services they still remain focused on your sobriety. With this in mind, you really should consider whether an intensive outpatient drug rehab program is right for
These programs may include detoxification of the addicted individual as well as a treatment program that lasts anywhere from 7-21 days (Hanser, 2010). The length of time of this jail diversion treatment program is often based on the cravings and inevitable withdrawal from the substance abuser’s addiction. An added mode of treatment or therapy for substance abusers is self-help groups. After release from the above programs, addicts have the opportunity (or are required) to attend 12-step programs that will aid in the recovery of substance abuse.
Coley is a timber cutter that is addicted to crystal meth. He has three young children, two girls and a boy and a wife that he affects everyday with his crystal meth abuse. Throughout the episode Coley locks himself in the garage, so he can snort powder form of crystal meth without his children being directly in front of it. Coley thinks that if he locks himself in the garage his children do not see his behaviors. Coley's addiction stemmed from his childhood where his mother was a speed addict and alcoholic and allowed Coley to do drugs and drink with her throughout his young teens and late adult hood. After Coley married his wife and his wife recognized the problem was connected to when he was at his mother's home she asked that he not be involved with his mother. Coley does this and shortly after his mother dies. This leads Coley to more drug abuse and his addiction becomes worse, due to the guilt he feels for hurting his mother and the guilt from the fact that she died alone. Coley somewhat blames his wife for this. Coley put his family in great danger with the bills not being paid and him putting off jobs for something he thinks will become his gold mine and turns out not to.

Your long-term treatment does not stop in the facility. You need an after-care program to keep track of the progress you make in the outside world.
This leads to the second school of thought on medically assisted treatment. There has been a great deal of debate about the medication used to treat Opiate addiction, methadone. Many feel that the drug methadone is simply trading one drug in for another, as the addiction to methadone is quick and almost more powerful than an opiate addiction (Nelson, 1994). The withdrawals effects are far more intense with methadone and for this reason it is a lifetime maintenance medication. Some suggest that more rehabilitative programs are needed that would address the social problems the users have to help them recover, instead of the methadone program that is viewed...

It was the late 19th century when a lot of conflict for families from the Industrial Revolution and illegal drugs had easy access to anyone in the United Sates. These illegal drugs like morphine, cocaine, and alcohol were available through manufacture, delivery, and selling. It was proved that the over use of alcohol and violence in families’ homes were linked together around the 1850’s and that women and children were being abused by the father and husband from the letters and journals that were wrote. These were times when women were stay at home mothers and it was the man’s responsibility to be the provider for the wife and children. Because of the abuse in the household it led up to the temperance movement. The purpose
In patient programs can also be very effective, especially for those with more severe problems. They are highly structured programs in which patients remain at a residence, typically for 6 to 12 months. Treatment Centers differ from other treatment approaches principally in their use of the community—treatment staff and those in recovery—as a key agent of change to influence patient attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors associated with drug use. Patients in TCs may include those with relatively long histories of drug addiction, involvement in serious criminal activities, and seriously impaired social functioning. The focus of the TC is on the resocialization of the patient to a drug-free, free living lifestyle and delivers healthy coping mechanisms for individuals that have not been able to function in society without the use of a mood altering substance.
a wise man recognizes the face of necessity. It is of great importance for persons to be mindful of destructive elements in their communities. In doing so the safety and positive growth of such a community can be realized and maintain. Substance abuse is a very destructive force, that is why it is important to have the right support in the community to help individuals get over it. Proper management of this condition is also crucial in order to help individuals affected to get fully recovered overtime. Therefore, elements such as drug abuse is relative and to talk about, and the recovery resolution.
The repeated use of drugs often causes both physical and psychological dependence, as mentioned in an article by the Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia (“Drug Dependence”). In order for an individual to truly be set free from their addiction, seeking treatment is necessary. Rehab centers are a great place with scientifically proven methods to cure those addicted to drugs. It is important to try to end drug use in our country, rather than allowing it to continue longer than it already has. While funding for rehabilitation facilities could become an issue, drug users may continue their addiction without proper treatment, and therefore those arrested for drug use should be sent to a rehabilitation center instead of prison.

Substance abuse is a national problem. Prisons are overcrowded with these types of offenders. People will do anything to get these drugs ranging from petty theft to murder. People with substance abuse problems know no boundaries. All they think about is how they are going to get that drug for that day. Substance abusers do not care who they hurt or why they hurt them. A lot of people that are addicted hurt the people they love the most like children and parents. People in the prison system that has been convicted of violent crimes most of them say that they were under the influence of some type of drug or alcohol.
Despite the higher cost, a high-end substance abuse treatment center does not constitute better treatment. The support of therapists, counselors, family, friends, and peers can all be important factors in the recovery process. The most significant factor for an individual in the recovery process is a desire and a willingness to change. Many options exist for individuals that want to recover from addiction. These options include substance abuse rehabilitation centers and support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and SMART Recovery. These programs all have the same goal but use different techniques that at times even contradict other programs. Although the approach of the programs may vary, they have all been proven to work for certain individuals.
