The movie Annie sets place in New York, where an orphaned girl fostered by an unruly caretaker; Miss. Hannigan, takes over the city. The character Annie, does this when the upcoming mayor saves her life and takes her into his home as a foster parent. The mayor; Will Stacks does this to get more media and Annie goes along with the plan. In the end Stacks grows a father-daughter relationship and adopts her. Throughout the whole movie, Annie expresses herself through singing as a way to cope through life. The movie is a well thought-out musical full of surprising emotions that make you connect with the characters. I think the musical’s idea is to connect with each character's feelings, desires, and ambitions that goes along with the character

This happens because Jay (the father of the main character, Mina) gives an interview with BBC in which he badmouths the General. Amin does not take to this too lightly and expedites the removal of all “Asians” from Uganda. Jay and his family, along with others are exiled to London. Eighteen years pass by and the film refocuses on Jay, his family and their lives in Greenwood, Mississippi. Mina is now twenty-four years old and works at a motel to help support her family. Her mother, Kinnu, owns a liquor store and her father, Jay, spends a majority of his time time writing to the Ugandan government about suing them in order to regain his lost property.

The film Wendy and Lucy, directed by Kelly Reichardt, presents a sparse narrative. The film has been criticised for its lack of background story, and as a short film, much of the story is left to the viewer to infer from what is presented in the plot. However, Wendy and Lucy is able to depict the intimate relationship between Wendy and her dog as well as reflecting more broadly on the everyday, and commenting on the current economic state of the film’s setting in America. This essay will examine how film form contributes to the viewer’s awareness of the story in Wendy and Lucy and allows a deeper understanding of the themes presented. The aspects of mise-en-scene, shot and editing and sound in the film will be explored.
“Love is pure, love is painful, love is sweet and love is dreadful” (“20 Interesting Facts”). Love has both up’s and down’s. How people prepare and react to love’s down will determine the outcomes. Poets throughout history have had difficulties with love, and Edgar Allan Poe, author of “For Annie,” and Rick Springfield, songwriter for “Jessie’s Girl,” are no exception. Poe and Springfield’s approaches on love are like peanut butter and jelly, they can go together, but do not mix. While Poe is the fault of his disconnection from love, Springfield has no control over his love life.
Music tells a story within a song and this is what Loretta does with her music by singing about her life as a coal miner’s daughter to life as a mother and wife. The movie incorporates these songs to the soundtrack of the movie because it is a film about Loretta’s life and how she became a music sensation in a time when it was harder for a woman to gain recognition for her accomplishments. The underlying music mixed with Loretta’s songs really helps to tell a wonderful story about Loretta’s life and her husband’s life with their challenges and overcoming
The film reflects the class difference from beginning through the end, especially between Annie and Helen. Annie is a single woman in her late 30s without saving or boyfriend. From the beginning of the film until the end Annie is struggling to find her own self, often she is experiencing the negative cycle of the self-concept. New York circa 1950 to 1960, when the film would take place, was full of gang violence and juvenile delinquents.... ... middle of paper ... ... She serves as a distraction and nuisance to them – until the end, where they finally accept her.
Also the songs really present the build up of certain situations on the stage and put a lot of attitude in the specific scene. For example the “ Jet Song” is the first song in the play. This is sung by a jet and it shows how much of a family they are. Another important song that is sung by Tony is “Something is Coming”. Tony sings this song to express his true feelings about the jets and how he has moved on from them. He has a gut feeling that something wonderful is going to take place soon in his life. Tony also sings a song called “Maria” which is about the girl he fell in love with at first sight. Maria sings a song called “ I feel pretty”. She sings this and explains how she is so in love with tony and she describes how nothing will tear her love with him apart. Riff sings a song called “cool” and it express his attitude and how he carries himself in fights, he means well and wants the best for the gang. All of these songs show how music can be a very powerful tool to express feeling and help be in that character 's
The film is portrayed in the past and present scenario setting.
