Lady of La Leche Our Lady of the Milk Kisha Saint-Jean Charlot HUM2010/ID: Y87851178 Professor Robert Henry /Mondays 5:40pm-8:10pm In the city of Madrid, Spain in the Middle Ages early 1600s, Our Lady of the Milk images was known as Nuestra Senora de la Leche y Buen Parto “Our Lady of the Milk and Happy Delivery.” The image was kept in a home of a married couple that was expecting. It was told to the married couple most likely the mother and the unborn child was not expected to survive during the delivery due to the mother’s childhood disease. The husband begins to plead in prayer to the image that was kept in the home while he is in desperate prayer for a breakthrough miracle. Throughout today’s world, the shrine still remains a place of hope of prayer for expectant mothers and their families and others seeking strength of belief. I decided to write in regards to the statue as a critique of a cultural a artifacts from the classical to the post-modern period, due to the fact I am a married Christian women that battle from infertility and is a strong believer in the Jesus Christ not of a image or a statue from a different religion other then what I was raise believing. I had a friend of my family that is a strong believer in her religion as a Catholic spoke to me about this statues and how many women had conceived and carried with child till full term and that her church group was heading to the chapel in St. Augustine, Florida for prayer. I did not want to be obedient. I respected her and listen to what she advised me. She was taking a trip in September 2016 to the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche. I was not able to attend, so she called advised for me to place all I wanted and my trials and tribulation on a sheet of paper and listed them according to my faith and hope and she will deliver the letter in hand for me. So I did and I can say she came back with a couple of gifts for me to use as a daily routine prayer. I begin to have faith not towards the image she gave me but more into my faith in God and communicate on a higher level. I did become pregnant after 4 years of trying to conceive then weeks later miscarried. It really does have a connecting of communication through prayer on a consist level with a strength of faith towards what you are asking for in prayer.
