Hello good morning ladies and gentlemen. Have you ever seen an Orangutan? Have you ever touch them? Well, talking about Orangutan, there are many sad cases about them. In 2015, in Ketapang, West-Borneo, a five-months-old baby Orangutan named Budi was kept as a pet after being stolen from his family in the wild. He spent his first year in a chicken cage and he was treated badly. Whole part of his body were injured, there were so many wounds. He couldn’t walk or sit up on his own, he was too skinny to survive on his own. Luckily, the rescue team came and saved him. He cried every time the doctors touched him. It need a long time for him to recover. Well, this is only one of thousands of other sad cases. Orang utan made home less, burned to death …show more content…
Orangutans are only can be found in two places on Earth, the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. Unfortunately, both of these regions now are being decimated by the palm oil industry. Orangutan Foundation International 2016 estimates that the orangutan population has decreased by 50 percent in the last 10 years alone. Based on the results of the orangutan Population and Habitat Viability Analysis 2016, there are currently only about 71 thousand individual orangutans left on Sumatra and Borneo islands. More than half of the baby orangutans don't make it to adults, it’s too tragic. After all, they are one of our closest relatives, sharing 96.4% of our DNA. But now they become endangered and soon will go extinct. If this continues, the next generation, our children will only remember the Orangutans as the current generation is remembering Dinosaurs or Mammoth in form of fossil bones in the museums.
A simple question that maybe arise in your mind, why should I care about Orangutan anyway? Borneo and Sumatra is so far from here, that probably I will never set my feet there for my whole lifetime. And I’m not doing any harm for them anyway? Well, are you sure you are not doing any harm to

And this time I really mean you. You see, when dealing with organisms in nature, chain reactions are involved. Orangutans disperse seeds all throughout the forest from their feces. These seeds grow into plants, and feed the smaller animals in the forest. So basically, orangutans indirectly feed other species. Furthermore, with an increased number of plants, comes an increase in oxygen production and better air quality. Without the orangutans, you wouldn’t be able to breathe. (Not exactly, but you get the point right).
Now, what can we do then to help the Orangutans?
First, Do not purchase food, cosmetics and toiletries that contain unsustainable palm oil. When you buy products contain palm oil please look for the RSPO (Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil) label to ensure you purchase products made with certified sustainable palm oil. It will give you the confidence that the palm oil was produced in an environmentally responsible way.
Second, Support orangutan sanctuaries and orangutan advocacy organizations. In the last 15 years numerous orangutan sanctuaries and advocacy organizations have been established in Sumatra and Borneo. They offer medical treatment to help heal and rehabilitate injured orangutans and prepare them for reintroduction back into the
Second reason why they shouldn’t be kept in a captivity. You can’t recreate on orcas natural environment. The pods sea world cannot hold 40 or more whales which are usually in a pod. If it holds 40 orcas they will make more babies and after their gonna be so much whales and the water won’t hold that much whales. Because whales are the size of bus school and is just like 40 bus
...eportedly the chimpanzee became an endangered species in 2002. Vital funds for zoo affiliated research and field work should be found elsewhere, because fooling around with another's life – human or animal – is not ours to manipulate.
Underwater shark nets make us feel safer at the beach, but are we? That’s the question. Are we safe? There are lots of possibilities that the shark, with sharp like knife teeth, may outsmart us. Because of shark attacks we use nets, called shark nets. However, that doesn’t mean nets used in the past prevented shark attacks. These nets don’t only trap sharks they trap other sea creatures.
Thesis Statement: Despite the rampant protests of animal welfare organizations on encaging primates in zoos since primates typically show abnormal behavior, zoos in the National Capital Region claim that human interaction and enrichment programs help alleviate the stress and trauma primates experience.
Orca whales have been in difficult circumstances ever since the first orca was captured in 1961. The first orca captured lived two days in captivity then died and the reported cause of dead was pneumonia. Many things come to mind when people think an orca is in captivity. Many people tend to believe they are being treated, they will enjoy life more, and they will live longer due to the fact they are receiving food and care. These statements are told to spectators at seaworld, marineland and many other water parks around the globe. The facts disagree with these statements. Orca are very friendly animals, there have been no recorded attacks of orcas hurting any human being in the wild. Most of them will come up to fishers boats and be petted and fed. Although in captivity numerous orcas have attacked humans. Average life of an orca in captivity is between twenty to thirty years in the wild their life span are three times longer between fifty to eighty years. Although during shows spectators sea orcas swimming in huge pools of water most of the time they are in the back of the arena’s in small confined spaces, which is unacceptable because in the wild orcas swim sixty to one hundred miles a day, searching for food and exercising daily. Whales should be free from captivity because, they are more aggressive in captivity, they live less in captivity and they don’t have great living conditions and are kept for profit.
Nationally, roughly four million animals are killed in shelters every year. Of these, roughly 95% of all shelter animals are healthy and treatable. No Kill Advocacy Center -. No animal should ever be a part of these awful statistics. What will it take to help save these innocent animals from being killed senselessly?
... the gorillas are taken away from their family and are living in captivity. It is still important to study primates in-depth, and a solution to the ethical issues may be to breed primates within the conservatory.
apes and move amongst the safety of the trees from one feeding site to the next.
The Human Impact on Rainforests Human Impact on Rainforest is it a necessity? Rainforest are the beautiful gift of Mother Nature. It consists of the most magnificent species and plants in the world. 4.2% of the world’s animals live in the rainforest. This statistic it self shows how bad it would be to destroy such essential part of the worlds biodiversity.
Introduction Palm oil is considered an essential ingredient for the production of foods and other products in which human use. The Orangutan Project (2015) states that ‘palm oil is derived from the fruit of the oil palm tree’, and the ‘palm oil plantations are the main driver for deforestation in Indonesia’. The harvest of the palm trees for the production of palm oil affects the ecosystem as it can affect the environment. This investigation highlights the advantages of the palm fruit providing nutrients, it is essential for the production of products, and this production being that palm oil can reduce poverty. The negatives of how the production of palm oil negatively affects the environment, the habitat of the animals, and social consequences such as the loss of income.
The sun dried grass crunched under David’s feet as he reached the mailbox, sweat plastering his golden hair to his forehead. The rural landscape of Shark Bay is bone dry; the lingering heat wave serving as a slap in the face with the wind blowing what is left of his fields into whirlwinds of dirt. His was once a land of luscious green landscape, the soft air turned branches into wind chimes as the trees swayed. These same trees have been bleached by the heat ridden gusts carving tortured sculpture in their trunks. Some might now see this world as one of desolate wasteland but David grew up with the land, this land was a living, growing friend that he knew, loved, and cared for as much as he did his wife and children.
Primates and some other animals are captured from the wild. There is even a market for laboratory animals where licensed dealers sell animals to research companies. These animals can come from places such as puppy mills, an establishment that breeds puppies for sale. Some dealers even go to the extent of baiting animals in from the streets with meat and sedatives, and others will pose as animal control officers. Flyers for “Lost pet” and “will give to good home” are responded by the wrong individuals. Some of these suffering animals were once pets that were loved and treated like family. To know that a family member is being treated unkindly and has to suffer for something they do not deserve is never desired (Peta).
The article addresses the ecological impact of palm oil plantation in Indonesia and Malaysia. The author conducts a descriptive study of how the increased demand for palm has impacted biodiversity especially indigenous animals such as orangutan. In order to assess the impact of palm oil plantation on orangutan’s habitat, the author conducted a literature review. The author notes that the need to expand land for palm oil expansion has negatively impacted the composition and the size of orangutan’s habitat. These findings imply that sustainable environmental policies and techniques need to be developed and implemented so as to mitigate the negative impact of the palm oil plantation of orangutan’s habitat.
Great Apes are at the brink of extinction due to deforestation, hunting, and bushmeat trade. Our closest cousins are now viewed as economic commodities rather than valuable agents to the environment and humanity. In order to explore this issue, there must be an examinitation of why primate populations are dwindling, if these populations can replenish themselves, and what measures the international community is taking to alleviate the problem. Bushmeat is a popular source of animal protein in West and Central Africa. With population rates on the rise, demand for bushmeat is projected to double in two decades.
